Christos Teriakis was really Fortune teller

Hello all,

Reading the newsletter that vBulletin sent out yesterday informing the release of 4.2.2, came across the paragraph:
Quote:

This release also includes a marketplace plug-in from Panjo. If your community operates a classifieds section, Panjo is a convenient way to improve how your users buy and sell items on your site. You can optionally use Panjo to generate revenue for your site. The plug-in is included in 4.2.2, and we'll be adding it to vBulletin 5 Connect in the near future. You can get more information at panjo.com.
At once came in my mind the post: Are you a Fortune Teller? by Christos Teriakis. If you read it you'll see that in the 2nd paragraph he wrote:
Quote:

vBulletin will partnership with software companies to sell on its own popular addons. Just like with Skimlinks and Forum Runner now, you'll see Classifieds, Reviews, Galleries etc, to be officially intergraded with vBulletin. That's why don't expect to find any competition to them from single coders/designers. Thus, you like it or not, you'll have to buy them in any price they ask for. And you know very well what happens if there are no competitors.
So now you know........ And he wrote it 7 months ago !!

He must think people are sheep. If a coder or designer can come up with something better, different, and or cheaper, what then?

It's a free market out there in the world, and people know quality. They also know sh*t when they see it.

So now you know......it don't matter if Vbulletin rolls it out or not. It's who comes out with the better product in my opinion.

I find it even weirder that the panjo mod added to 4.2.2 won't let you uninstall it! and even when it's disabled it still won't let me run our Classified mod. I contacted Panjo via email and they don't even support .co.uk I also asked for instructions on how to remove this add-on from our forum, I'm still waiting on a reply.

I think there should be an option when upgrading to 4.2.2 whether or not you would like to install panjo or not, seeing as it's not supporting the uk.

I know this mite seem unrelated to this topic, but IMO it's not.

Dave

tbworld 10-10-2013 07:06 AM

As you know the files are included, but the product is not activated. I am only stating this in case others get worried that it is automatically activated.

What classified MOD are you running that you are having problems with?

Disco_Dave 10-10-2013 07:16 AM

It's Christos Mod, In a post this morning on his forum, he seems to think that:

Quote:

Tricksodave is reports that after upgrading to 4.2.2 the Tab menu of Classifieds points to Panjo Marketplace. This company knew that there was another addon (my) using the same phrase. They did it deliberately to mess your system.

In any case, I want to inform you that I don't plan to change anything in my code. If someone needs to make changes this it the owner of the new coming mod/service and not me.

Chris
I'm no coder by any stretch of imagination. I have already mentioned some of the problems I'm having on a thread on here, even if panjo is disabled when I go to our classifieds it says panjo market. I'm not looking to take sides in any of this business, all I want is a mod that isn't supported for the uk to be removed and it won't let me.

Here is your solution:
http://www.teriakis.com/threads/51-I...full=1#post364

Panjo used the same filename with a mod which was in market much earlier than their product.

Disco_Dave 10-10-2013 07:28 AM

I've already tried that, I'm getting this error now:

PHP Code:

This will change the error reporting options within vBulletin on the first hook that is run.
If you have vBulletin Suite (i.e. Blogs / CMS) or you have the Panjo Product enabled, this setting will pretty much disable the Strict & Deprecated messages anywhere.
This is because all three of those products use the "init_startup" hook.

If you dont actually have any of those running, you can create a dummy plugin yourself - use the "init_startup" hook, and just put a comment in the php section.
Code:
PHP Code:

// Dummy Hook //

Chris as helped me get the classifieds mod working. But I would still like to fully uninstall panjo, especially seeing as there is no UK support to start with. If I'm being totally honest I wouldn't be 100% sure to what Paul is referring too or know how to do what he's saying.

Dave

ozzy47 10-10-2013 09:58 AM

I was referring to the error you reported, probably solution #4 will work in your case, it is a file edit.

On a side note, I am not trying to defend, vBulletin, Christos or Panjo/Enthusify, but IMO both Christos and Panjo are at fault, as a developer, you should make sure your filenames are unique, so this type of thing won't happen.

Only mods I have seen this type of conflict, that HAVE to use the same file name is the various arcade mods. This is due to how the scores are recorded, and need the file to be named arcade.php

That's exactly what the problem is, but my stand point is. Why have a mod that is default classifieds when you mite be using your own. Plus this mod does not support any uk customers, or is the fact that most bulletin boards are american, and the uk is just a small number compared the USA. It all seems a bit too silly.

Mary's Classifieds - Released: 21 Jul 2011 (Initial Release 02 Jan 2010)
Integrated Classifieds Plugin - by Panjo - Released: 07 Jul 2012
vBulletin classifieds mod from Panjo - Released: 06 Aug 2013

Who needs to take care and check if the filename already exists?

Panjo 10-10-2013 06:45 PM

Chad from Panjo here. At present, Panjo supports the English language and US dollars. Panjo has support coming in the next few days for other currencies. Support for other languages is farther out on our product roadmap.

It looks like you found the source of your classifieds issue. In the wild west of vBulletin mods, it is possible to have two mod with the same filename.

To resolve your issue you need to delete Panjo's classifieds.php file and ftp the classifieds.php file that goes with your legacy mod.

He's right, are none of you remembering the vB Advanced fiasco when vB4 first hit... the same table names? They worked around that by releasing a new version very promptly.

Is someone to blame here? No... Panjo NOR Christeros are not responsible for "babysitting" other mods (I say that sparingly w/ a little grain of salt that you acknowledge it's simply true, perhaps bad choice of word to use analogy wise but you get my point) and when I make custom mods I try to make table names, file names unique but as we've seen in the past with vB Advanced CMPS stuff like this can happen.

Why do you think despite some mods being straight forward you always see us telling all of you to at least make a database backup first? So if you install something that conflicts it's easy enough to revert until a solution is found.

I did not say anyone needs to check if it already exists, I said they should try and make them unique, classifieds.php may be common, where ct_classifieds, or panjo_classifieds.php may be

Of course this has happened in the past, has happened now, and will probably happen again in the future.

Panjo used the same filename with a mod which was in market much earlier than their product.

Mods have been using the name Classifieds and the file name classifieds.php for years. The name no more belongs to him than it belongs to anybody.

The message is clear. In simple words he has no money to pay the hosting and his host suspended his account. As I can see even his dev site http://www.christeris.net shows the same message. That happens if you offer everything for free.

Paul M 10-17-2013 04:05 PM

Not quite that simple.

I offer everything for free, and have never had a site suspended. ;)

mokujin 10-17-2013 04:35 PM

Buy a cheap hosting (hostgator.com) for just $15 per month.
You are "Greek" and Christos Teriakis is from Greece ;-)

Not only from the same country but living on the same city (at least as I know).

Paul M 10-17-2013 06:44 PM

If you have the technical knowledge, you can get a cloud VM with full root access for as little as $5 a month. Just install apache, mysql, php and your site.

Well to be quite frank, I believe they all meant that Chris's old username was MaryTheGreek... then we see you i.e. NickTheGreek just happen along and start chatting it up about Mary/Christos so it makes one wonder respectively. That's just a rough guess as to what they meant based on how they worded their posts imo.

Edit: Also Paul didn't come in here and slap you in the face by being rude/snide but sure is funny you behave and respond like the banned member no longer here and that simply ticks me off, how about showing Paul some respect "5 lines of code" worst reply I've ever read on here honestly - for shame!

Yes, I understood it later on when I got a PM from someone asking if I'm Christos. Actually he wanted (very kind of him) to offer to Christos free hosting on his dedicated account. But as I replied to him, I'm not that person. And something other that maybe confuse especially the moderators is that maybe (I'm not sure for it), we can ever share the same IP. That's why I'm providing the link below. All citizens here (and thanks to our Mayor) we have free wireless internet access.
http://www.lagadas.gr/FF5A66DF.el.aspx
Is in Greek but Google helps a lot in translation.

But I was expecting a clear question on this. Really I've been shocked reading that "...share the same bed". It's not good saying when you're talking for male persons.

As for my nickname. I used to use it many years ago. It comes from an old movie "Zorba" with Anthony Quinn.

Thank you

mokujin 10-18-2013 06:46 AM

Take it easy, I only thought you and Christos are one person :D
