Dynamically Show Similar Threads On Thread Creation
 

This mod will dynamically show similar threads as you type the title of your thread using AJAX.

Installation:
Import product-show_similar_threads.xml via your admin control panel, and you're done.
There are no settings as of this moment.

Change Log:

• 1.0 Initial release.
• 1.1 Similar threads are now shown without a delay. Also, instructions for manual template edits have been added, as well as an option to disable the automatic ones.

Its not working on 4.1.10...any update for 4.1.10?

I've updated the mod to serve jQuery from Google's CDN, as vB just uses hardcoded file names pre 4.1.11.

It's always good to change up the titles of posts, also a good search tool :) and may increase post in another thread.

How about adding usergroup permissions
and usercp setting allow the user to turn On or Off
Once the usergroup permission is set have an option for the default to be On or Off

Improvement would be to have something similar for Blogs ;)

Are you supporting this mod fully?

The reason being I had virtually the same mod as this installed but once I installed the Auto Fill Tag modification the check for similar thead mod I had installed stopped working

Anyway, I have just installed this and I can confirm this one also does not work if you have this auto tag filler mod installed:

So is there any way to make your new mod work together with the Auto tag fill mod?

As it stands at the moment, the Auto tag fill mod wins hands down for the one to keep, but I would also like to use this one if it worked together with it

Hmm, what's the logic behind having usergroup permissions for this mod?

As for the blogs - the point in having similar threads shown when creating threads is to prevent users from asking questions that have already been asked. I believe this is not the with blogs, so I don't really think it's appropriate, wouldn't you agree?

It actually works fine for me. Which version of vB are you running?

I just installed this and it didn't work, same as the older version of this mod I had.
I then disabled the auto tag fill mod and then this one worked fine, but then as soon as i put back the auto tag fill mod, this mod stopped working again.

Oh well, funny old thing the vB stuff.
I have posters telling me my Country Flag online mod doesn't work on their forums, yet others say it works fine and it always has worked fine for me.

Yeah, I'll probably add an option to let users turn it off, and an option to let admins not let users to turn it off.

I just spotted this and had the auto fill tags problem. Just like New Joe.
What a shame this mod still won't work with that.
I really miss this type of mod on my forum.

Any way this problem can be investigated?

Actually, I just downloaded this mod and it is sort of working.
The auto tags mod is working.
The similar threads mod seems a bit flakey.
Sometimes it will show similar threads and sometimes it doesn't.
Pretty close though. I will test this a bit more......

OK, it seems I am rushing things, it just takes a second or two to actually display the similar posts. Great stuff.

One question, how many characters do you need to type before it produces the similar threads list, I am typing 5 before getting the similar threads.

If I then edit my posts title the mod seems relectant to check for similar threads again.

Uhm... what was updated since the file was uploaded here for the first time? I got it as soon as it was up and now I see there's an Updated tag.

I'll add instructions for making the template edits manually (although I'd say it's highly unlikely that the automatic edits would fail).

The MySQL default is 4 characters (ft_min_word_len).

IMHO showing similar threads when editing a thread is kind of unnecessary, but sure, I can add it.

Hi, no, that is not what I meant.

If I start to type out the title and wait a second the similar threads are listed.
But if I just delete what I have typed and start to type out a new title the mod does not seem happy to produce a new list of similar threads.

I'm using the TMS, but It's not working for me. I would be thankful If you could add those instructions.

The list of threads is updated after each character you type. It's possible that the title is just too similar to the old one, therefore the similar threads list doesn't change.

Instructions have been added to the zip.

In your instructions you state, "IMPORTANT: Before making the following temple edits, be sure to cancel automatic template edits via your ACP -> Settings -> Options -> Show Similar Threads On Thread Creation -> Enable Automatic Template Edits -> No."

However, I cannot find that option anywhere within Settings > Options.

It's possible that there are no similar threads for "Test". Did you try a different title?

Its not at the first word like "The" buth with "thing".

I was thinking that al the titels with "The" where showing op.

I can't get this to work for me. I am on 4.1.12 PL 1

I have a ton of mods installed including the automatic thread tagger. Though I disabled the thread tagger and tried it and it still doesnt work. I did the edits in the template manually and set the auto template edits to NO. Still nothing for me.

Can you take a look?
