(must be a good plugin if nobody has asked a question yet!)

How does this work if you use no follow on all of your vbulletin pages?

depends by which mechanism you use nofollows, for instance I think the VBSEO one is ran last, so in theory it would add them.

but, it depends on how they are added I guess.

do you have a nofollow plugin installed? if so, let me know how it behaves so that I can resolve any issues.

I'm using the no follow option on vbseo, but i'm wondering in terms of seo benefit if you have no follow options turned on then do the links that this mod creates still count and actually benefit your seo??

MOGmartin 03-04-2010 03:30 PM

if you have external nofollows enabled then the destination site will receive no seo value from the links, unless they are specifically whitelisted within VBSEO.

however if you are linking internally to another page on your site, the nofollows are not applied by VBSEO as it only adds them to external ones.

SO: if your forum is about "call of duty" and you have a specific page you want to optimize for that keyword in google, you should use this to link every occurance of that term to that page, and it will improve the internal linking focus of that keyword.

KissOfDeath 03-04-2010 03:42 PM

So their is benefit from using this for internal links only?

MOGmartin 03-04-2010 03:46 PM

it depends on what you want to optimize for mate, for instance on my site I want to appear higher for the search term "seo tools"

SO: I have set it up so that every time someone mentions that keyword phrase in a post, it links to my "seo tools" page.

as they are internal links, they do NOT have the nofollow tag, and my internal linking is now optimized for that page to raise in the serps for the search term.

If Im not explaining myself well here, let me know, I will write a blog post about it!

cheers

I understand i just wanted to confirm,
The problem is the internal links that are on on every page, to me the ideal mod would be something that you could use to put no follow links on your internal links you choose,

If i understand it right, your link juice is split amongst all links on a page so even so for example if you used this mod for the search term "SEO mods" it would still need to share the the link juice with things on the page that do not help your seo like the words: post, forum & thread for example. obviously this mod gets your keyword to take some % of that so it is benefiting but it would benefit more if their were an easy way to put no follow on certain internal linksnot everything so link juice is still being sent to places you don't want it

I know vbseo has some options but

This is the way i understand it, please correct me if i'm wrong i'm not a seo pro like you guys it's just something i'm interested in

Kolbi 03-04-2010 04:06 PM

In my forums I get (for ex. If someone links a thread):

mysite.com/threads/1698-topicname" target="_blank">

I run 4.0.2

yeah, what your asking for doesnt work anymore, now pagerank on nofollow links just "disapppears" and doesnt increase the pagerank flow onto other pages that are linked without a nofollow.

Brandon Sheley 03-04-2010 05:38 PM

nice work, I know users that have been asking for this for a long time

What a great IDEA !

One further enhancement, would be ToolTips on the autolinked keywords !!!

Will give this a go later, checked out your demo, very impressed.

Supramania 03-04-2010 06:04 PM

Question - what if the keyword is contained in a link already?

i.e. - User has posted:

http://www.somesite.com

and "somesite" is the keyword. does it disregard keywords inside URL tags? What about inside other tags? For example, my site has a tag called [sign][/sign] that replaces the users text with a smiley holding up a sign containing the users text. In that case would the "somesite" be a link within the [sign][/sign] tag? Or would it disregard that?

Does it also honor [noparse] tags?

Just trying to feel out what the impact of this is, and how I can use it.

Thanks for the kind words! I cant take credit for the idea, but its a super handy plugin for a number of reasons.

I will include the tooltips in the next release in a day or two.

cheers,

by default if the word is already in a user made link, the plugin will not touch it (I dont want to get in the way of user experience, so I made sure of that)

HOWEVER: custom tags are not worked into it yet, I will try and work that in for the next release, good idea.

thanks!

Links appear to be broken ;)

I set www.mysite.com => related keyword, but internal links don't work as well.

TimberFloorAu 03-04-2010 06:14 PM

Perhaps ignore bbcodes and any html links inc. images if possible.

Adding a nofollow option would not help. Indeed, changes in how Google handles the nofollow tag make the use of that tag virtually pointless.

See:

Added: I see this was already answered at https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....3&postcount=16 but you might find the links I added useful for providing more information on what has changed.

HOWEVER - a nofollow option per keyword for external links would help, so that you could sell specific words on your forum content, and nofollow them to ensure you dont get in any trouble from google.

I will add that feature today,

cheers

Frankly, I'm at a point where I refuse to play any more nofollow games or do Google's work for them. I don't nofollow anything any more. I'd love to see some of these antitrust suits succeed. Google needs to be reined in a little until they lose some of the arrogance they've acquired in the past few years.

neither do I mate, and to be totally honest, my priorities for this plugin are:

1) promote internal linking of certain pages
2) link offsite for SEO benefit of the target site
3) affiliate links.

Im sure for most people, affiliate links will be the #1 reason to use this plugin. Heck, when I ran a poker forum, I earnt thousands a month off the old geek plugin that achieved something not dis-similar.
