group.php

Is their a better layout for /group.php?

Here is that I have:

Here is what I would like, something like the index.php page.

It's got categories [like the forum categories], and it's got:
-The Group name [Board Name]
-Members
-Messages
-Pictures
-Last Post with Reverse Sort Order

Also, is their a mod for 3.8 that allows for Messages in the group.php?groupid=x page? I would really rather prefer Messages over Discussion.

Bump. Thanks for any help anyone gives me.

Lynne 08-11-2009 03:51 PM

I have not seen any template mods for this particular page. I did one for the group page itself, but not the main group page.

Angry_Sun 08-11-2009 07:56 PM

Ok, could you tell me what template(s) I would need to edit?

Lynne 08-11-2009 08:13 PM

To find the template to modify, do this - vboptions > General Settings > Add Template Name in HTML Comments > set to Yes . Then go back to your page and view the source code and you will see the name of the template called around your part of the code. Sometimes the template is the one mentioned at the very top of the page source.

Ok thankyou, but one more time, what template is the main template for /group.php?
Is it SHOWGROUPS? Or something else?

Lynne 08-12-2009 07:07 PM

The main template is listed at the top of the page source if you turn on the option I mentioned. But, each section may be a different template and you really need to take a look at the page source and see what template is listed there.

Angry_Sun 08-12-2009 07:17 PM

Alright, I must have been looking in the wrong space. Let me try again.

Note: I might edit this post, mind keeping an eye out?

Edit: Doh, I wasn't looking at the page source xD

Edit again: Is their anyway I can use vBulletin 3.7 templates to give me some help in editing? Like, where they place things and such. I know direct copy and paste wouldn't work, but I would like at least a lead on this. Since I'm new to vBulletin and such. Any help would be great for me.

Lynne 08-12-2009 08:51 PM

If you need to use a template from 3.7, either download a 3.7 style and copy it from there (although it may not be a default template), or download version 3.7 from over in the vbulletin members area and install it as a new style (or you can look in the /install/vbulletin-style.xml file to find it).

Weird, I see no code difference in socialgroups_overview. They both have the same exact code. How can that be?

Lynne 08-12-2009 11:24 PM

Very often templates don't change between versions. If you see a change, it could be another template on the page that was changed. Or, it could be the code that spits out a variable in the template that changes.

Angry_Sun 08-12-2009 11:28 PM

But each /groups.php is totally different. Or should I be looking at the templates that are inserted into the groups_overview?

Lynne 08-12-2009 11:34 PM

Well, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking to do, but you need to find the template that spits out the information you want to alter. Then you want to alter the template to spit out the information the way you want it spit out.
