Social Group Statistics in Whats Going On

As the title suggests this modification will add Social Group statistics to the Whats Going On section of your forum homepage. Just in case you want to see it in action before committing to install I have attached a screenshot of the WGO.

Installation

Installation of this modification does not require any template edits etc and only requires the installation of a standard product XML file. To install this modification follow these steps:
  1. Download the attached XML file to your computer.
  2. Goto your Admin CP page (ACP).
  3. Open the "Plugins & Products" section.
  4. Click "Manage Products".
  5. On the page that opens scroll to the bottom and click "Add/Import Product".
  6. In the "EITHER upload the XML file from your computer" browse to the product XML file that you downloaded in the first step (product-socialgroup_homepage_stat.xml)
  7. Click "Import"
  8. Sit back and watch vBulletin do its magic.

Other Information
  • If you have vBulletin blog installed this modification will put group stats after the blog stats.
  • This will add one additional SQL call when the forum homepage is viewed.

Related Modifications

This is the third modification in my "Why wasn't this stuff in the default social group system" series. For the others, see these pages:

And finally...

You know the deal by now, if you use the mod please mark it as installed and vote for it. If for some crazy reason you reckon this mini mod is worth it then nominate it for mod of the month.

great idea!!

I would think it could help get more use out of the social groups :)

Alfa1 02-03-2009 03:34 PM

I guess this only works for 3.8 and up right?

Correct

Also, I have just spotted a minor bug in that the template was not cached - this has now been fixed and the update uploaded.

Looks like just what I'd like. I didn't want a whole list of the social groups on the front page, but I do like the idea of a little blurb with statistics. Thank you!

aberg 02-03-2009 05:57 PM

Great mod, works perfect.
Thanks!

Social groups seem to be one of VB's best kept secrets. Your mod will surely help draw some attention. Nice job.

wtb 03-15-2009 09:02 PM

*installed* but no stats are appearing. I have 0 groups set up right now so perhaps that's why, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss something. :)

Phantasmagoric 03-21-2009 08:59 AM

Uninstalled, stats don't increase if you have the social groups forum mod installed.

Alfa1 03-21-2009 09:07 AM

Thats because the social forums are in the vbulletin forum system. Not in the groups discussion system.

A question/ feature request:
It shows the latest group created, which is the same for a long time. It would be very handy if it would show the group with the latest discussion. Could you please add this?

Thanks for the information, I've uninstalled the social forums mod, it was causing waaay too many conflict in other areas, now everything is working fine, the heads-up is very much appreciated.

Re-marked as Installed, now it's able to function it's an ace little add-on, thanks.

This doesn't show up on our custom templates but does on the standard vb template. What do we have to do to get it to show on our custom templates?

Gun Geek 04-01-2009 04:18 AM

*installed* working as descibed and yes this should be default. Looking at your other mods now
