vb.org minor update, xmas 2008

vbulletin.org will be unavailable for a short period sometime in the next few days (as I get time) for some minor code updates.

The following changes will take effect ;

* Graphics Tab added.
* Style Tab changed - now only goes to styles forums.
* Latest Articles added to homepage.
* Articles listed at bottom of modifications list in user profile.
* Tag/Untag Modification added as (ajax) option on main modification post.
* Style Colour and Width options now in footer of page.

As a result of the changes, everyone will default to the blue style, fixed width format (950px) - you can then quickly change back to the colour of your choice (and full width) using the new footer options.

Its possible some other changes may also happen, that I either add before the update, or have forgotten about. :)

Nice to see the introduction of the graphics tab. Thankyou.

Nice updates. I especially like the graphics tab, and the articles in profile.

Thanks for the hard work you are putting in. Are you sticking with 3.6 or upgrading?

gamerfu 12-26-2008 09:47 PM

A new year's surprise... cool.

ForumsMods 12-27-2008 01:34 AM

I think you need update vB to 3.7 or 3.8.

Been curious about this myself for a while now. Why hasn't this forum of all forums been upgraded to the latest stable? We're missing a lot of features here we all wanted added to vBulletin. :)

KevinL 12-27-2008 01:04 PM

Do a search I'm sure you'll find an answer if not 100 haha ;)

nexialys 12-27-2008 01:06 PM

so much for people administrating forums... you all know that you need to read the stickies to be informed...

You can suggest that in the site feedback forum ;)

ForumsMods 12-27-2008 04:16 PM

It was suggested before.

if I will buy vBulletin and I see that an official site is using an old version, I think that the new version has a problem or similar for this reason the official site does no use it.

puertoblack2003 12-27-2008 06:28 PM

this version is fine to me .we dont need all that extra stuff. simple and basic..

I dont think this is an "offical" jelsoft site though?

Shelley_c 12-28-2008 11:19 PM

It's says "official" in the slogan. which leads to the next question what makes this official if it's not directly official towards jelsoft.

Being a direct link to jelsoft (came from pauls words) marco is a direct link to jelsoft/.com which leads us to think that org is the official modifications site derived from jelsoft.

Yes, we know why org hasn't been updated, yes we know why it won't be updated anytime soon and it's not because of the assumptions stated in this thread. Look around in various threads and the answer is in black and white.

Roms 12-29-2008 01:04 AM

This site isn't using an old version. This site is using the newest version in the 3.6 series and has been updated I believe last Month...

Paul M 12-29-2008 09:34 AM

We will be on 3.6 for a while yet. The problem we have is so many customised templates - I loaded a copy of vb.org locally the other day and upgraded it to 3.8 RC2 - 88 customised templates ! - plus the 3.8 JS wasnt working, not sure why that is either but its template related. All these things take a lot of time to sort out, and as pointed out many times, we have lives to live. :)

As for the updates above, I hope to implement them sometime later today.

ForumsMods 12-29-2008 01:06 PM

Separate that 3.6 Now at End-of-Life.
When I upgraded from 3.6 to 3.7 I had to edit 113 templates. And when upgraded to 3.8 only few templates.

nexialys 12-29-2008 01:10 PM

as they are major changes in templates, why not have a str_replace from the originals so you do not need to update the style when you upgrade the script?!... i can say that most of the template edits can be done that way... as a lot of coders here do it for their scripts... why not here on vb.org!

ragtek 12-29-2008 01:20 PM

Or instead of str_replace use tms

nexialys 12-29-2008 01:25 PM

yep, one day Andreas will be repaid for all his efforts... and as he is still part of the project, i don't see why he would not agree to support it here... :)
