Answers Forum
Ever wanted to enable the ability to specify a certain forum as an "answer" forum, where members can post questions and select the best answer given by the community? This is similar to yahoo answers, a very effective website where users can post questions and seek answers from registered users. Answering questions can get to be a mess, keep it organized and save yourself a bit of hassle when dealing with Q&A's. As a webmaster, you already have enough on your hands to have to worry about answering questions sometimes, and need an effective way to do this! Or maybe, you just want to let your community do it for you ;)

Difference Between Answer Forum Light & Answer Forums Premium
* Enable a questions forum Lite/Premium
* Allow users to choose best answer Lite/Premium
* Question Statistics on forumdisplay Premium Only
* Top Helpers on forumdisplay Premium Only
* Recently Answered on forumdisplay Premium Only

Interesting. I'm going to try it out for a while and see how my members like it. Thanks.

Kaelon 09-15-2008 05:48 PM

How do you designate a forum to be an "answer forum"?

Ah, one of the most common mistakes that we pound our heads for as coders :p Will update the zip now.

Can you copy and paste the example of the url which is being generated for marking the answers, as well as the a link to the thread it's being generated for? Also, what version of php are you running?

valdet 09-15-2008 06:36 PM

wow, thats a great one,

Just like Yahoo Answers, Can you make an add-on product about which user has posted most best answers and so on..?

PM sent. FYI, admins can mark best answers.

FiMeTi 09-15-2008 07:04 PM

very nice one mate! I like it!
Installed and nominated!

Works just sm00th on VB 3.7.3 ;-)

//Suggestion
- Would be nice to see a "Answered" also in the Threads-Overview, maybe next the "rating" on the left.
That way we can see which threads already have received a proper answer. ^^

furst 09-15-2008 07:06 PM

Would like to have the option to disallow thread starter from choosing self as best answer.

lazydesis 09-15-2008 07:07 PM

very nice mod .. just like yahoo answers :) may be MOTM?

I was thinking about it, but figured the only reason a member would have for doing that would be if my any chance he was able to get an answer from another source, at which point a link would probably be provided. However, i will consider the option of restricting this.

It would be interesting to give users the option to designate a thread as a question in any forum rather than setting any one particular forum as a Q&A forum. That way we could have regular threads in all of the forums, and those that are question-based could benefit from Q&A layout that this hack gives us.

ShiZoPhreN 09-15-2008 08:39 PM

Please Upload :D the File... Thanks

Gio~Logist 09-15-2008 09:12 PM

Sorry about that guys, had to make a couple of fixes for those running php4 still and to include the table prefix.

Also, you can now enable/disable the question status on forum display page ;)

dtv100 09-15-2008 10:48 PM

Yeah.. thats its really nice..

Gio~Logist 09-15-2008 11:59 PM

You can do this by drawing a conditional based off of TIMENOW (get the number that gives you via php "echo TIMENOW;") and then create a conditional based off of it.

PHP Code:

if($thread['dateline'] > 'X'){

Take this conditional and use it to wrap the necessary plugins. If you have knowledge of php, that would be the quickest fix atm. Will try and see if i can provide an add-on or something for you guys soon if anything.

GaiLoan 09-16-2008 12:07 AM

Thanks, but i think only the Thread Starter who could choose Mark As Best Answer, now this everyone can choose, even choose the question, not the answer for the Best Answer lol "Install" but still waiting for your update.

Many thanks for creating my request. I am sure many will enjoy it.

Please add this functionality: A 'Is this a question that you want an answer to Yes/No' Radio button on newthread.
If the thread creator selects Yes, then the thread will have Answer functionality.
If the thread creator selects No, then the thread will have no Answer functionality.

This way, the answer functionality does not have to be confined to dedicated forums.

Adding functionality for vbexperience points for answers will make it easy to give an award to members who posted the most answers.

Gio~Logist 09-16-2008 12:59 AM

Insert COLUMN after the word DROP in the uninstall section of both instances. Sorry about that.

Gio~Logist 09-16-2008 01:00 AM

Will be back shortly to answer the rest of the feature-requests ;)

Sorry, had to make that post on-the-run.

For those of you running through un-installation errors. Edit your product and replace the uninstall code with the following.
PHP Code:

$db->query_write("ALTER TABLE " TABLE_PREFIX"forum DROP COLUMN g_answer_forum");

$db->query_write("ALTER TABLE " TABLE_PREFIX"thread DROP COLUMN g_answer_forum_answer");

Zip updated :up:

haothiencz 09-16-2008 08:59 AM

Isnt it better or make it intergate with all point system?

I mean, we can custom field we like for pointing :)

GrendelKhan{TSU 09-16-2008 09:41 AM

awesome!

ps. I second the idea that integration with one of the various point systems would be INCRECIBLE as well. :)
