Uploading PDF

I was wanting upload a pdf file to my site as an attachment,
but when I try to do this I get the error message,

Thumbnail creation failed due to your image library not having support for this image type.

Is there a function I need to enable in order for this to work?

Opserty 08-30-2008 09:18 AM

AdminCP > Attachments > Attachment Manager > Find the pdf row and select Edit > Go > Display thumbnail for this type? > No > Update

Not sure why this is set to a default of "Yes", seems a bit silly especially when the description says it only applies to image files...

I have tried that
and then I zipped the pdf and tried to upload it as a zip file ( I also made it Display no thumbnail)

This is what it says in the options

Quote:

Display thumbnail for this type? This only applies to image files of the extensions: bmp, gif, jpe, jpg, jpeg, png, psd, tif and tiff. The creation of a thumbnail for any image type is not guaranteed.
So I have both pdf. and zip. set as no although it says that This only applies to image files of the extensions:.

I still get this error message;

stockton-casestudy.zip:
Thumbnail creation failed due to your image library not having support for this image type.

Do I have to have my hosting site up my file size for pdf.

as I am able to upload pdf files but not large ones

So you can now upload small pdf files but not larger ones? It may be a php setting that needs to be upped (in which case, yes, you should talk to your host).

Should I be able to zip a pdf. file and add that zip file as an attachment
in order to get around large size pdf files?

Has anyone done this?

Opserty 09-02-2008 09:16 AM

Double check you're setting again. (Disable any modifications temporarily too).

It is trying to create a thumbnail by the look of it and you don't have the required PHP extensions for it, so it obviously failing. However disabling the thumbnail creation should have stopped the error.

Edit: I just tried this on my test board and even with the "Display thumbnail" set to yes I was still able to upload.

Why don't' you list exactly what you put in all the fields for your pdf attachment type.

dadoc 09-03-2008 06:53 AM

Max Filesize; 4000000

Maximum Width; 0

Maximum Height; 0

Mime Type ; Content-type: application/pdf

Display thumbnail for this type?; yes

Open this attachment in a new browser window?; no

Enabled; yes

Thank you for your support Lynne and Opserty as I know how much you do for the site
You are both a great asset to vB.org

Why do you continue to have Display thumbnail for this type set to Yes? I just tested that on my site and if I do that, I get the error you are talking about. If I set it to No, all is fine. I think you need to set that to No in order to continue trying to find your problem.

I was having a look around some mods and found this

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....postcount=2136

Is this something I could do to increase my file size limit?

Lynne 09-04-2008 01:29 PM

You can try that. I actually copied down a list from vb.com that shows the different variables that could come into play regarding attachment limits.

Quote:

Attachment Limits:
These settings might be limiting:

PHP Settings:
max_execution_time
memory_limit
post_max_size
upload_max_filesize
max_input_time

MySQL Settings:
max_allowed_packet
max_packet_size
wait_timeout
