Forbid Users from Posting Links or Images if They Have Fewer than 15 Posts

Just as the title says - if a user has fewer than 15 posts, he will be unable to post a link or an image within a message. This includes e-mail addresses and the system cannot even be fooled by the old user[at]email.com, we also locked that down.

Reduce your SPAM today!

It is a product. To install, simply import the xml via your Admin CP, Manage Products, Import New Product. No configuration is required.

dont u need to ask him before posting his mod ?

lisss001 05-09-2008 11:01 AM

Why does it matter, it's just re-posted, I took no credit and people have started installing it. I just thought it would help people find it. If he has a problem and contacts me I will remove it no questions asked.

XiZa 05-09-2008 11:09 AM

is it possible to just disallow links and not images?

lisss001 05-09-2008 12:52 PM

Just don't worry about it mate. I have just re-posted something, people do this all the time, some take credit for others work I do not, really don't worry.

lisss001 05-09-2008 12:53 PM

XiZa the answer is no, sorry, every link off-site gets blocked.

Forum Lover 05-09-2008 04:11 PM

lisss001 05-09-2008 04:13 PM

Excellent idea

We had a problem with adult porn viagra etc spam but this is just what we needed to help put people off and saves us a lot of time deleting posts of one time spammers

Thank you

Clicked Install

lisss001 05-12-2008 04:22 PM

Thanks, that's exactly what it's here for. I hope it helps many others like yourself. I know how annoying all that spam stuff is, especially the porn and spam stuff.

Rev O 05-14-2008 11:27 AM

Great Mod, would be even great if it could be configured by Admin.

Thanks nonetheless.

pmkb 05-16-2008 02:36 PM

FYI - This mod is not preventing images/links from being posted in 3.7's social groups.

It might or might not be working for profile visitor comments - I'm not sure yet (haven't tested).

lisss001 05-18-2008 06:14 AM

It is not intended to, it's just to prevent spam on the main forums.

pmkb 05-19-2008 12:24 PM

It won't be long before the spammers figure out they can target the social groups instead.

maxicep 05-19-2008 01:15 PM

awesome job

HFB 05-26-2008 07:34 AM

A couple issues that arose right away with this mod:
1) members with < 15 posts are unable to report posts.
2) members with <15 posts are unable to quote posts containing links, images, or email addresses.

logicuk 05-28-2008 11:47 AM

i would also like to use this hack but i only want to block urls, not images

thanks

TheInsaneManiac 05-28-2008 05:08 PM

Will this stop the spam bots that no longer use url tags? I see some of them post links that are not active as in you have to copy and paste them. So will this prevent those also? Can you rig this to work with signatures?

neologan 05-28-2008 06:00 PM

installed, but changed it to only work with under 1 post, just to stop spam.

i think it may work for those types of url because it blocks all of these:

($pagetext,'[url') or
($pagetext,'[URL') or
($pagetext,'www.') or
($pagetext,'@') or
($pagetext,'[at]')
($pagetext,'http://')))

you could add or remove others i suppose.

TheInsaneManiac 05-28-2008 08:16 PM

Actually I like this better:

lisss001 05-28-2008 08:21 PM

If you would like a more advanced anti-spam mod please feel free to use the mod above. This one is very simply and has one objective, to filter URL's, Images and the like from new users. that is the goal of this modification and that is all that it does and ever will do. This is a very simple modification for people who don't want to configure settings e.t.c and it does the job it was created for.

Scarface Claw 05-28-2008 11:53 PM

Does this work with 3.7.1?

Lombardo 05-29-2008 06:00 AM

Is there a way to change the amount of posts?

lisss001 05-29-2008 09:52 PM

You can change the amount of posts by editing the file in Dreamweaver athough this is not supported here. A clue would be to change the value of 15. This is not supported here, do so at your own risk. I only support the changes that I personally make to the file and upload.

logicuk 05-30-2008 06:27 AM

munnakv 06-22-2008 02:45 PM

Installed this. But I am yet to test with a test user.
Good thinking. Thanks

TitanJeff 06-22-2008 07:40 PM

I love this hack but my RSS feed would not work when activated. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks.

Baldilocks 06-26-2008 02:34 AM

Same problem for me. Disabled until a workaround can be found.

Captain Tycoon 06-30-2008 02:27 PM

Marked and Installed! Works perfectly! Thanks :)

JeepGuy1999 07-01-2008 04:19 AM

Working perfect for me too, thanks.

TitanJeff 07-01-2008 10:14 AM

I ran across this post in the older version of this product. Though I don't know anything about how it works, would this be a solution for those of us with RSS problem when using this?
