Getting Members?
 

I have had my board for almost two weeks, and we only have about nine members, only 3 of which actually post... I was wondering if you could give me some tips to help me get some new members... I have tried SEO and it hasnt worked so far... Thanks in advance... :erm:

2 weeks got nine members. I say that's a pretty good result.

if you keep growing in that rate, you will have about 250 members in a year.

The best thing you could do is bring your friends and get them to bring their friends. Recruit! I opened my site 3 days ago and am already at 110 members with over 1000 posts.

Advertise with other alike sites

Also submit your link to search engines!

A lot of that I have done, but it hasn't worked...

It takes time for people to come. It's not "instant" as you would like.

Word of mouth is often the best way... so as EnIgMa1234 said: tell as many people as you can to join and get them to tell as many people as they can. Advertisement is key too, I recommend finding sites that are similar to your own (or in the same market) and try to set up links and affiliates with these sites. What forum do you own?

Consider also that summer is a vacation so less ppl are surfing the net...

I would think that more people would be on during summer. No school

Depends on the content...But I do think summer time is more popular

and youtube, google videos and other video uploading site it will bring u more active members also they look for the quality of the web u got and their expectations

I suggest taking advantage of digg.com, digg can produce massive traffic for your site.

Also, every once in a while I like to PM individual active members and tell them I love the fact that they are active and I ask if they would like to invite some of their other friends that would be actiev.

We also run recruitment contests--give a prize for the most referrals.

As stated, it takes a while for search engines to index you. Also, post your url in as many sites that will let you. The more sites Google finds your url, the higher page ranking you will achieve. Notice the amount of urls posted in sigs in this forum.;)

Does anyone find that having a gallery is something that will help increase members/ and or activity?

I always found in September October it does get better.

I have the same experience m8. Also during long winter days... sitting in front of computer almost all day and night :)

best think i've found was get banner space from sites like yours or get a text link. This will do 2 things for you, get you alot oof traffic because of the similar content and it will get search engines there asap, not weeks like it is when you submit to search engines.

Digg is a good way to get people to visit too, but it is getting them to stay that is the hard part. I suppose there are many quick ways to get people in etc but time is the only way to grow.
