I get bots from this host name constantly, on all of my sites. They do nothing mut try and register on my forums. WHat are they and what can I do to stop them does anyone know?

Just add that host/ip to the ban list.

Someone on a site there is running a bot. Contact the host.

You just said it's coming from keymachine.de. Just ban the domain: *.keymachine.de

I have done the same i have banned *.keymachine.de but they still keep coming back?

Are you using Re-Captcha plus verify e-mail? for new user's?

Doesnt work, I had a problem with them and many more registering on my forums.

Solution...

Add a custom question on signup with only 1 answer that people will know.

Example:

"Whats the opposite of cold?"
answer: hot

100% spam stopped, signups, posts everything...

I would agree also. There is a mod for this also that shows a series of images and you have to chose which image the question is asking for.

Cheers for your comments i have those options enabled, just find them on the site trying to register a lot, they dont get through but just keep trying which am guessing is eating bandwidth?

How do you add a custom question? I have so many of those sites "joining" that I send all my time banning or deleting and haven't figured out how to keep them away!

Adding domains doesn't seem to work. Is there some hack to make domains with wildcards work correctly, as IP banning does?

Are we talking about banned email addresses?

Its in your admin section, under vBulletin Options / Human Verification Manager

check off "Question & Answer Verification"

make a question and answer there.

On mine they still try to sign up, but they cant get in. Saves having to delete posts, ban users etc. As long as they dont get in, I could care less if they keep trying. Eventually they'll remove you from the list of sites to spam.

Bogus registrations stopped cold!!

Personally I find the "text window" difficult to read, and I have great vision, so I could not imagine someone with thick glasses trying to read it.

The question / answer routine works well.!!

Just got one of these, too. It registered and posted this:I don't like adding too many registration hurdles; it would make more sense to limit people after they register, not before.
