One member can't see images

We moved to a new server 2 days ago, and ever since the move, one of our members can't see any board images. She can see outside hosted images, though.

I'm at a loss for how to solve this. She's cleared her cache, switched browsers, flushed/re-registered DNS, and turned images on/off in UserCP. Nobody else seems to be having this problem, or if they are, they're not telling anyone about it.

Is there anything else I can do?

ORP 07-25-2006 05:06 PM

When she has it set not to display images can she click on the link and see it? She's not in an unique user group or anything special is she?

Lacie 07-25-2006 05:14 PM

Nope, she's not in a unique usergroup. I put my test account into her group and I can see them fine.

She's offline right now, but I'll ask her if she can click links when she gets back on. Will turning images off make the buttons links, though? I thought that just made attachments and such non-visible. She can't see anything - no buttons, the forum logo, IM icons, or anything.

I have to use dial up at times and I set my profile not to load images. Whenever I do that I see links to click if I want to see the images. The other cool thing I found out by doing that is I can also see how many times the image has been viewed. I thought that interesting.
Very weird problem though. You got me scratchin my noggin.

I know, I'm totally stumped. I just can't understand why everyone else can see the buttons and such except her.

- Can you post the URL to your site?

- Ask here what browser she's using? Some setting in her browser may block images from your url.

I RECOMMEND:
You may want to suggest that she tries viewing the site with another browser?

Lacie 07-25-2006 07:56 PM

The URL is www.mustloveweddings.com. Use username test/testpass.

She's tried 2 different browsers - IE and Firefox. Same result in both browsers.

I had her copy the image location into a browser, and it gives her a 403 error. So presumably that's the problem, although I can't figure out why she's the only one with restricted access to that directory.

everything appears fine (codewise) ...

check your .htaccess file

Lacie 07-31-2006 02:48 PM

Bumping this back up - more members are coming out of the woodwork with this problem. It's happening in both IE and Firefox with everyone. As far as I can tell, there is no .htaccess file for that directory.

bvtonedog 08-01-2006 12:55 AM

They may need to clear thier cache could still be trying to load the images from old server.

Lacie 08-01-2006 02:33 PM

Yep, that was the first thing we tried, and it didn't solve things. :)

Nxs 08-01-2006 02:51 PM

Working ok here with IE and FF - looks like all the bases have been covered.

Delete cache
F5+Refresh

and clutching at straws, clear any DNS cache : ipconfig /flushdns

I would suggest that you try browsing the site, logged in as one of the members complaining, and verify things yourself (and check their UserCP options)

Freesteyelz 08-09-2006 04:02 AM

Ping your domain and see what IP(s) comes up. Does it point to your current or former host nameservers?

Lacie 08-29-2006 03:51 PM

Bringing things back up, as it still isn't fixed after trying everything in this thread.

The member in question (first one that had the problem - we haven't heard anything from the others) can see images from her work computer, but not home. She is on a high speed connection (in Sweden, if that matters). I've logged in to her account, and it looks fine from my computer.

We're totally moved to our new servers and have been for some time - everything is working perfectly other than this.

Any other ideas?

Ntfu2 08-29-2006 04:40 PM

She has a firewall blocking the images. Tell her to turn off her firewall when browsing your site.

L9IAnime 08-31-2006 11:41 AM

yeah i had exactly the same thing with me and some of my members, its their firewalls, does anyone know what causes it??

Quarterbore 08-31-2006 11:47 AM

Do you used httaccess to redirect your hits from YOURSITE.com to WWW.YOURSITE.COM? If so, you might confirm that your images paths include the "www".

I moved servers a while back and discovered that only a few users could not see images and that problem was because of the www. Most people, including myself had the httaccess work and we saw the images just fine but for some reason I will never understand I had a few that always got the red "x" of doom...

Perhaps your members could also be entering from the DOMAIN.COM or WWW.DOMAIN.COM and the image issue only happens one way or the other?

It is a shot in the dark but it took me a long time to figure out so it might be worth a look...!

Good Luck!

Lacie 09-04-2006 06:22 PM

It was their firewall software. Thanks for that suggestion!

Glad you got that sorted, you might want to disable your test account now ;)
