SC-BrushedBlue

Hello everyone!

Here I present you my very first vBulletin Style.
Since upgrading my forums to 3.5.1 I needed a new style but I wanted something original, something own and finally I came up with this.

I was aiming at something a bit eyecandy but yet easy to the eye.
(While keeping the blueish colors of the old style I had, since we got used to that)

Maybe you like it :)

Some features of this style that make it different to the default style:
  • Borders around categories on forumhome to better seperate them from each other
  • Completely new (redesigned) navigation bar
  • Complete new set of status icons (for forums, posts and PMs)
  • Complete new set of buttons
  • There's a seperator between the sticky and the "normal" threads
  • An additional navigation/breadcrumb bar at the bottom of threadview for easier navigation.
    (don't have to scroll to the top to go the a parent forum of the current thread)

Attached are some screenshots, but you can also preview it live on my own forums --> here <--

Every feedback is apreciated so that my next style may get better since I already have some nice ideas :)
Oh, and if you reall go to install my style let me know! ;)

Good Job. I will try this out.

sexy! Good job!

Lovely! It's really cool.

First Skin...? get outta here... your obviously gonna make some very nice skins in the future! - I'll look forward to that so will many others im sure, im sure you don't need me giving you some advice, but i'll share some of the guidelines i use when i think about designing a skin for vB...

KISS, Keep it Stupid Simple! - I try to use very small (filesize) graphix to reduce bandwith overheads and as such i take this principle and apply that to the design, i think...how can i make something stylish with minimal fuss... either dark or light? (thats my first question) then start with the alt1, alt2 colours first which i spend time working out how they compliment each other...anyways, i've started to go towards designing skins which have an exisiting theme/influence on my design, my C64 skin is eveidence to that...next? maybe an Atari 2600 :) who knows.... nice skin btw!

the skin is wonderful but 1 thing i have double navbar on my board would hate to modify it is there a way to fix that problem and some how keep it's look but installed it anyway....nice one :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

ImportPassion 12-01-2005 05:38 PM

looks nice. my users want a dark theme. Are u going to fully support this? Like when updates are released? if so, how long can we expect after a release from vb will we have to wait for an updated style from you?

I just noticed, is it only in fixed width or do u have 100% as well?

D

@b6gm6n:
Thanks for the tips with your guidlines!
I'll try to follow those more on my next skin :)

Hmm.... what exactely do you mean by "double navbar"?
A feature of your board, or a problem with my skin?
Can you give ma a screenshot about that? I'm sure we can get this worked out! :)

I'll try to do my best as my free time allows me :classic:
However since code MODs have become not so common since 3.5.1 chances are high that I also upgrade my own board, so I need an updated skin as well :D
There shouldn't be too much time between a new vB and an updated skin, denpends how quick I figure out what has to be fixed :)

As for the width:
It's not fixed as in 800px width, it's actually an 88% width.
But there's an additional .XML in the archive that has 100% width.
So you can choose wichever you like better :)

nexialys 12-02-2005 01:06 PM

cool style... different approach from the usual tables.

Mastar 12-02-2005 02:27 PM

How can I get my logo banner centered in the header?

Holidazed 12-02-2005 02:30 PM

Wierd. I installed this style (and btw, thank you, it is awesome) but my columns don't line up. Look at your own site at the "Last Post" column. It does not line up with the other "last post" columns. the same thing is happening to me.

BTW, mine is a parent style so it is not pulling anything from any other style.

Darkus 12-02-2005 05:38 PM

Awesome Style there Hellcat. Nice Job. Certanly going to use it on my Forums when I get the time :)

seany1 12-02-2005 07:30 PM

Ah, I see!
You have quite some more stuff in your NavBar!
So all we would have to do is to implement all your additional links into the header/navbar of this style.
Well, that can be done :)
Is all of that put into your "navbar" template?

In your AdminCP go to Style-Manager -> Edit-Templates (of this style)

Double click on the "header" template and look for this part:
Code:

      <table border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
        <tr align="left" valign="top">
          <td>
            <a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>

Change the value that's marked in bold to read like this one:
Code:

      <table border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
        <tr align="center" valign="top">
          <td>
            <a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>

That should center your logoimage in the header.
Don't forget not to put any whitespace in the image as that might affect centering to be a bit off ;)

Yes, that's right.
It's because every category is now a table of its own.
But the link PtP posted explains pretty good how to set them to a fixed width to make them align to each other again.
If you have trouble with this drop me a PM and I'll send you a modified template :up:

Kran 12-02-2005 10:03 PM

So you decided to release it eh? Well I like it over at SC :) good job :)

ahennings 12-03-2005 07:01 PM

FANTASTIC!!! What a super job you did here with this skin Hellcat! Thanks a million!

Jenkins 12-04-2005 11:15 PM

yeah this skin is awesome. I have a newbie question though. I have a lot of hacks on my default style, is there a way to "Merge" the hacks into the new thread?

All modifications applied to the templates in the default style to integrate the hack(s) just have to be re-done on the same templates in every other style where you'd like to use them.

If the hack has an installer that does it automatically try to re-install the hack so the new style(s) are affected as well.

Jenkins 12-05-2005 03:08 PM

thanks, for the info.. and I also just realized i said "Thread" i meant to say "Style" doh!

Hellcat 12-07-2005 10:11 AM

Hi everyone!

I updated my style to be compatible with the changes of vBulletin 3.5.2

There are now two .ZIPs to download, the original one (that was made for 3.5.1) and a new one "SCBrushedBlue_vB352.zip" that is the updated version for the new vB release :)

Mr Chad 12-07-2005 09:26 PM

nice first 3.5.2

ericgtr 12-08-2005 12:39 AM

Fantastic style, thanks for sharing it. I am having a problem with this image that won't show and I can't seem to find the name of it to remove it, please look here http://www.rosecitylife.com/index.php at the top left. I thought it may be clear.gif but it exists and the path is correct.

Hellcat 12-08-2005 01:14 AM

Glad you like it :)

For the image:
Looks like it's supposed to be the title image.
Did you delete that setting in the style manager?
Either set the title image to the the clear.gif OR go to Style Manager -> Edit Templates -> header

find this line:
Code:

<a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>
delete it, save the template and that should do it.

Me like! Great style. On your own forum you have snowflakes flying around. I want those to. How do I fix that? BTW; I am a total PHP noob. Is there an easy way to fix that? How do I get my logo in there? Do I just place it in a certain directory?

Here's the snow:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=99991
(very easy to implement :))

For the logo:
Either just replace the logo gif in the "misc" folder of the style, or in the "Style Mager" -> "All style options" point it to the location of your title image/logo :)

RichieBoy67 12-20-2005 01:37 AM

Sweet!!!!

Man dude... this is an awesome one!!

Thanks for sharing...

crustymanmeat 12-20-2005 11:39 AM

RichieBoy67 12-20-2005 01:53 PM

I can not find a logo.gif in the scforumstyle/misc folder nor in the images/misc folder. When I go into the style manager -> all style options, I do not know where to add the location of the logo.

Thanks for the snowflakes BTW.

The image is
/path_to_your_forum/images/scforumstyle/misc/scheader.gif

In the "All Style Options" it's the "Title Image" setting.
It?s the first one after all the numeric values stuff.

simon. 12-22-2005 07:10 PM

Nice skin, does it have copyright on it? or can I remove it?

I'd be nice if you would leave the small note at the very bottom, it's really nonintrusive.
But if you HAVE to remove it.... I wouldn't kill you for it ;)
However there's still that PayPal Link onmy forums :D

XtremeOffroad 12-25-2005 10:18 PM
