Save your money and Download the Windows 7 RC this week. Upgrade to that and then upgrade to the final when its released. No reason to go to Vista 64 when Windows 7 will be available soon. Better performance, better user interface, better applications. Windows 7 will even do better with only 2 GB of RAM.

IMO win7 is boggyer (is that a word) than vista

like the saying goes, if it's not broken, don't fix it

You're joking, right? Which games are you playing?

32-bit OSes can address up to 4 GB of memory. This 4 GB includes things such as RAM, Video RAM, and other things. The "3 GB" you're talking about is an estimate of RAM addressable after taking everything out. Sometimes, people can access up to 3.5 GB of RAM on 32-bit OSes.

Win 32bit can only use 3GB of Ram....

although you may see it shows it can see 4gb, it will only use 3gb. :)

As far as upgrading to 64 bit I would suggest it to anyone who multi task's, I have updated all of my systems to 64 bit and there is a very good performance gain to be had.

and to add to this, windows 7 will not be released until the 4th quarter of this year at best... most likely 2010 q1

Ok,

I got the 4GB ram on thursday, i then phoned the PC guy and there was no answer phoned him again and still no answer so i couldnt be bothered waiting for i installed it myself..and it worked lol..

Only registers 3.5GB though =(

R1lover 05-02-2009 05:37 PM

yes 32 bit systems will only use 3gb, even if you install more. :)

boggyer? Not sure what your trying to convey here.

My Windows 7 system uses less resources and is a lot more responsive than the same computer running Vista. Haven't really had many problems with it. Only issue is that I have to run Firefox in Vista compatibility mode but that is due to GoToMeeting not recognizing OS versions properly.

Again, a 32-bit OS can address up to 4 GB (or more precisely, 4 GiB) of memory. Memory is a generic term covering not only RAM. I never said anything about "seeing" 4 GB of RAM anyway...

Furthermore, under 32-bit Windows, a single application can only access 2 GB of RAM. The kernel "reserves" the rest. (IIRC)

something really wrong with win7

locked up numerous times using kapersky as the virus checker.
And i found it locked up doing other small jobs as well and had to press reset to get back to my other OS.

It looks good but it needs more work (i was using the 64 bit version of win7)

Dismounted 05-04-2009 11:36 AM

Win7 is working flawlessly (generally), with no showstopper bugs for me. Try running it without Kaspersky and see if the problems go away.

WIN7 has been great for me since they first put it out for beta test. no major bugs at all, and fast. i will be upgrading to the RC asap.
