However, charity and donations of food and household appliances ? albeit from private individuals and corporations, not the government ? provides in large part for their lifestyle [17]. Their large house as well was completed on January 20 2006 with aid from Discovery Networks and corporate sponsors.

Poking around some of the linked reference articles, it seems that the family currently refuses to divulge their sources of income; at least one article mentions that besides corporate sponsorship, that they also receive donations from various church organizations.

actually, the DMN article look like a "Extreme Makeover" project, nothing fancy...

there was more than 250 extreme makeover projects in the last 3 years, with more than 150 000$ budgets for each of them. the Duggar's project was different... there was a followup of their own life way before they start the house moving, and the house was built in 2 years, not a week-end.

sure they had sponsors, but they also are a big family, rich from the begining... the guy can be a marketer or a great advocate, you never know where his money can come from, and actually i don't care...

his family, their big house, that's nothing to trouble anybody else... they stole no money from the hand of the poor, that's all.

if you watch the show, and have followed the family, even slightly (my wife makes me watch lifetime) then you know that they DO parent their kids, all of them, exceptionally well, and probably do more with their kids then most parents of 1 or 2 kids do.

exceptional people, all of them, i challenge anyone to have 18 kids as well behaved and adjusted as these are.

Hummm.. doesn't even leave one hour of parent time for each child.
Sooooo...they take them ALL to say the zoo, or museum, which they often do, how is that time counted?

Now lets add in the environmental cost of all those diapers, laudrey, heating, cooling, gas and everything else.
as opposed to 9 families with 2 kids each or?

I'm all for a big family within reason but this is just gross, especially when the parents keep having sex and sending the responsibility off to the children.
just untrue, as Nex explained, the big kids help, like my 5 y.o. helps us with her baby sister...same deal only on a larger scale

Additionationlly, the mother was told that having more children could kill her due to uterine rupture problems. That kills, and kills quite rapidly. So what is that telling her daughters? Lie down with your husband whenever he's horny-no matter what- no matter what the consequences might be? Lovely. But then again, maybe she's the horney stupid one? Who knows.
we JUSt watched the show where they had the 18th like 2 days ago, their doctor who delivered the last 3 (i think) was very confident that Mrs. Duggar was perfectly healthy to deliver VIA vbac and again is she so chooses.

I think they are addicted to media attention and the drama that comes with in.
Just gross all the way around...
you know what they say about opinions :D

Interesting thread. Can't say I'd heard of the family before opening this up.

My family is fairly large (not in the league of the Duggars - thank the gods!) I have three stepsons, four daughters and am 8 months pregnant with my fifth. All my kids are well adjusted, every one gets one-on-one time with me or their dad or both if and when they want it. The oldest is 18 in Februrary, the youngest has just turned 1. As I'm sure you can imagine, Christmas was chaotic and LOUD!

I have no problem with this family having a lot of kids - not an amount I personally want. This one is going to be my last.. I've already booked my other half in for the snip ;) We have only one income - my other half works, I stay at home with the kids - we're not on a high wage by any stretch of the imagination, but our kids are happy, contented, clean and well-fed.

Hmm, well I think I lost the plot on where I was going with all that - I'm full of cold, so not thinking straight. I guess my point is that while I personally don't like the idea of giving birth to 18 kids, if all the woman's kids were planned and not accidental pregnancies then fair play to her but having kids does take a toll on the body and she should really start to think about that aspect of things.

lets not judge other families before we take a good hard look at our own.
If they want 18 children and not doing it to get benefits/Handouts etc then who are we to judge.Nothin to do with us at all and if we all kept out of other peoples affairs the world would be a better place.

I got snipped after my daughter was born. I only ever wanted two children. I might have more than 2 wives though. Not that I am planning to get divorced again. Heck was only planning on having one wife in my lifetime but that didn't work out so well.

The Duggar's are a great Christian family. Ain't nobody's business but theirs how many kids they want to have. America = Freedom, at least that's how it was originally intended. Some of you nanny-staters can't comprehend anything of the sort. Carry on.

omg this is an old thread

There was no need to bump this 2 year old thread. Please look at the timestamp of the last post before replying.

IMO it's a question of policy. If they don't want a thread bumped that's years old then archive them or add a mod to auto close after so many months.
