Two things

1 - does this work on 3.7.2?

2 - it would be great if the best answerer gets some Icredit points???

edenx 09-16-2008 12:25 PM

Hey
I'm using postbit_legacy and didn't see any links for best answer with the mod.
Can this probably be a bug?

bada_bing 09-16-2008 03:08 PM

Sorry for the lame question but can you explain what this actually does? Currently I have a feedback forum which is designed for members to ask site related questions and the staff or other members can help answer the questions, what does this mod do in place of that???

Any now the $1 million dollar question is will this run on vb 3.5.x

Thanks

kevinfx 09-16-2008 04:34 PM

i'm interested in the premium version. when do you think you will have it?

Pirat3 09-16-2008 10:01 PM

great mod but can you make it so admins and mods can remove "best answers" to deal with abuse?

Sorry, had to make that post on-the-run.

For those of you running through un-installation errors. Edit your product and replace the uninstall code with the following.
PHP Code:

$db->query_write("ALTER TABLE " TABLE_PREFIX"forum DROP COLUMN g_answer_forum");

$db->query_write("ALTER TABLE " TABLE_PREFIX"thread DROP COLUMN g_answer_forum_answer");

Zip updated :up:

i think i might have been doing something wrong :lol:

thank for the fix

also some suggestions:

make it compatible with some kinda award or point system...
make a plugin to show members who answered most questions...

Adding the functionality to have vBExperience points for Answers, will be enough to give vBExperience awards to members.
I was not thinking about vbplaza.

Set a forum as answer forum -> Users threads are displayed as "Unanswered/Answered" depending on whether or not they've marked a post as the best answer.

Yes. I will be creating an option to reset the best answers. Since this is a universal add-on, i will make sure to include it in the light version as well for you guys ;)

Hm, i actually tested this with postbit_legacy . I'm guessing you have a custom theme? Can you send me over your template via private message?

The premium version should be available within the next couple of days - a week (if it takes longer, i will let you guys know.) Trying not to overwhelm myself which too much support at once, or else it takes away from the quality of the support given ;)

If this is added, it will be added within the next 2 weeks.

In regards to implementing this with a point system
This will be integrated with vbcredits very soon, will keep you posted!

Many thanks for creating my request. I am sure many will enjoy it.

Please add this functionality: A 'Is this a question that you want an answer to Yes/No' Radio button on newthread.
If the thread creator selects Yes, then the thread will have Answer functionality.
If the thread creator selects No, then the thread will have no Answer functionality.

This way, the answer functionality does not have to be confined to dedicated forums.

Adding functionality for vbexperience points for answers will make it easy to give an award to members who posted the most answers.

I think this option would make this hack Amazing!!:up:

It would also be great if we could post the unanswered and/or no best answer chosen on VBAdvanced or integrate it into a search.

Also IT would be nice to have a cron job set up to remind the posted if they have not chosen a best answer. Something like " Poster did you know there have been X answers to your post XXX on yoursite.com. Why not stop by and check them out to see if any of them answered your question"

Just my ideas!! Thanks!

I've customized this a little bit for my forums http://www.4x4mecca.com/forum/4x4-te...89-blazer.html

If you view the forum display for the tech forum http://www.4x4mecca.com/forum/4x4-tech-talk red flag = not solved, green flag = solved, and I made a better (in my opinion) postbit for the solution post.

I'm looking forward to the premium version to see what it has. I'd like only admin and the thread starter to be able to choose solution.

- Good Question: How can the Best Answers be Removed? I don't see an Option to do that, and is Very Important to Provide one so that if by Mistake Chosing a Post the User can Take that Back and leave the Thread as Unanswered. :confused:

- Would be also nice if the "Choose as Best Answer" would only be Displayed to Thread Starter and Admins/Mod/Super Mods.

- If you can add an Option to Choose Which Usergroups, besides thread starter (of course), can Select Best Answer, would be really nice; or perhaps if you choose only Admins, Mods and Super Mods, to Select Best Answer, would be nice that in case of Mod only if the Mod has Permissions to Moderate that Forum, then he can Select Best Answer, otherwise Not; in case of Admins and Super Mods, there's no restriction for that.

My Best Regards.

:)

That is awesome modifications you made. Please advise on how you added the coding to allow green flag and red flag. Please also advise on how you added the icon underneath the accepted answer.

Mod installed/ Marked for MOTM

4x4 Mecca 09-17-2008 05:27 AM

I edited the .xml and found the part that places "answered" or "unanswered" in the thread title, and replaced it with the path to the red or green flag

Then I found the template for the answer under the first post, and tweaked it to my liking. If the original mod creater doesn't care, I'll upload the file here, but you'll need to get your own green and red flag, because I might move mine soon.

RedeemedWarrior 09-17-2008 06:34 AM

awesome awesome stuff

installed along with your Extra thread field hack to make a rather spiffy Help desk

haothiencz 09-17-2008 06:39 AM

installed and nominated

I'm going to include this in the light version to allow you guys to get more of an impact of the script ;) Will be added in the next release, already made the fix. The premium solution will be made available once i see you all here are completely satisfied with the effect of existing features. After this, an update will be made to the light version and the premium will be released on the same day!

For those looking to integrate this themselves till the next release, here's the simple fix:

Edit the following plugin: Answer Forums - Is question answered?

Search for:
PHP Code:

$thread['postuserid'] = $this->registry->userinfo['userid'

Replace it with:
PHP Code:

$thread['postuserid'] == $this->registry->userinfo['userid'

Already planned for future versions. Still up in the air as to whether it will be available in the light or not. However, i will try my best to provide it in the upcoming version of the light.

This should do the trick within postbit templates :up:
HTML Code:

<if condition="$thread[g_answer_forum_answer] == $post[postid]">
Icons/html you'd like to show in the answer post
</if>

Gio~Logist 09-17-2008 03:08 PM

I'm seeking feedback on the ideal solution for giving credit for members who have provided answers (via vbplaza).

My idea is to simply make it so that user's can't change the best marked answer once they've selected it. Or should i just make it so that they can, but it'd take back the points given to the last user? This would be in attempt to prevent abuse of course. Admins will also always be able to change the answer however.

Ideas/comments/suggestions on this feature?

Heh, yea it seems to be the only one available for download here so i'll go ahead and add integration on that for now. Contacting the developer as we speak to get his approval ;)

Deffo: Would opt for VbCredits.

Also May have been answered, can you have more than one best answer?

Can we have a postbit link, that shows how many nominations for best answer we have received, ie. most helpful member system?

That's a possibility. So closing a thread marks the last post as the answer?

Cool, the new version is being worked on as we speak :p

You are only allowed to have one "best" answer at the moment. As for stats on member's answers.. That may or may not be released in the Light version.
