Hi there,

Awesome hack. Love it. One problem though, when I have a member trying to post a picture in our gallery or from his album, it blocks him and triggers the URL Spam alert.

I have whitelisted the domain wizard101central.com and it still triggers. Am I missing something?

Thanks

J

Question: There is a hack which doesn't allow users to post a link until they have 15 posts. However, it conflicts with vB's RSS feature by shutting this down.

I've been searching all around for a solution. Does this hack do this? I don't care about anything but keeping users from posting links until they have 15 posts and not interfering with RSS.

PGAmerica 10-02-2008 06:55 PM

Is there a way to add this feature to signatures and profiles as well? Maybe even blog entries?

rchelifan 10-03-2008 03:03 AM

I just installed it and it works fanstastic! and I would also join PGAmerica to request to expand this to signature as well.

reggiemental 10-03-2008 11:30 AM

Is this plug-in just a case of going to: Plugins & Products > Manage Products and then uploading the XML file? Or, is there more to it than that? I notice the authors of plug-ins always ask for people to click on 'installed' but not sure where, or how this is done.

Mark.B 10-03-2008 09:38 PM

Mine no longer posts the attempted spam in a specified forum for me.

It was doing, but actually it stopped on 1st September! It's still stopping the spam but it isn't making the post.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and all the settings are correct.

I'm guessing that making the post uses some php or mysql function that has been blocked on the server, does anyone have any idea what that might be?

birdie 10-08-2008 03:49 AM

Love the mod - thanks. Its worked wonders in a few forums in the last 2 days. The only problem I had was that there was a 50/50 split between spammers and geniune newbie posts. Several of the newbies got confused and posted a second (or even third) time; so I did two things:

1. The welcome email to newbies now mentions this

<p>If your message is genuine, then thanks. Your post will be live as soon as a moderator gets to it.</p>

Rik Brown 10-14-2008 03:49 PM

I'm loving this mod as it catches 100% of the "spam and run" spammers (usually bots).

All of our new users initially go into a "moderated users" usergroup. Once we feel confident about them (based on the quality of their messaging) they are moved up to an "unmoderated users" usersgroup.

I would like this mod to be able to run totally automated on the "moderated users" (new users) group so that if they post a URL, etc. they are automatically banned (so I don't have to clean out their posts later). Over the past several weeks of tests, the system has been 100% accurate in catching those type of spammers. I'd like to be able to put it on autopilot so that it not only deletes their current spam, but any prior posts and puts them into the permanently banned usergroup. I assume that could best be done by cron.

Just my own personal wish to save webmaster time.

Thanks for a great mod. -- Rik

ps: Upon using the mod more, since we have a "one strike and you're out" policy for new user spamming, I'd just assume those new "moderated users" be banned immediately on their first spam post. Then no cron is necessary.

I see someone else asked in the thread but there was no answer, so I figured it was missed.
Does the safelist support wildcards for subdomains.

For example adding *.craigslist.com to allow
lasvegas.craigslist.com
sandiego.craigslist.com
ect..

Or does each subdomain need to be added separately?

And while I'm at it, a future improvement would be an admin option to send posts with URL's to the moderation que instead of just deleting them. Then we could show the user the error message as it does now, and just edit the message to say something along the lines of "URL's posted by new must be approved, your post will be reviewed by staff shortly"

I think it would be nice to have the choice of delete, delete plus send to url spy forum, or just send to moderation que.

rob01 11-17-2008 06:02 PM

hey i keep getting this error, when a try to edit my posts:

this forum cannot contain threads or it is a link please choose another forum.

but if i disable the mod, it wont show up anymore

any ideas?
:S

JaBaT 11-20-2008 06:33 PM

I see something similar, but the message thant dont allow post url or email was in a float window whith 2 option buttons. So, when you click in the button, window close and you are in the post you was writing.

I hope you understand me, my english is no good :D

ShackMaster 12-02-2008 12:03 AM

I am having another issue now. I just realized that it is not excluding usergroups that I have set it up to exclude.

Plugin Usergroup Ignore List
List of usergroup ID's that this plugin will not affect.

Even if they are listed, if they have less than 5 posts, they are blocked and get the error message.

Any ideas?

If you need some encouragement to get the next version out and can fix any bugs, I would be happy to donate 25 bucks if it will help.

Thanks!

ShackMaster 12-04-2008 03:04 AM

Anyone home?

Same here.

This excellent mod has stopped working after 25 October 2008. Maybe this has to do with the upgrade to vb 3.7.4? Please fix this. This mod has effectively gotten rid of spam bots.

ShackMaster 12-13-2008 03:05 PM

Apparently "woostar" is no longer supporting the mod, and has either unsubscribed to the thread or ignoring emails.

I really wish people would support a mod that they claim is supported instead of ignoring users.

Chadi 12-18-2008 02:48 AM

Not sure what's going on, but realized this mod stopped working for me. I haven't installed any plugins recently so not sure why its not working.

I created a test member under the default member group. I tested out some keywords, urls, etc and posts went through. The test member of course has 0 post count to begin with.

See attached.

Any ideas?

I'm guessing the vbulletin upgrade to 3.7.4 is the cause since many others report the same issue.

Chadi 12-22-2008 07:04 PM

Anyone out there willing to correct this mod considering author has not logged on for nearly 3 months?

I'm willing to pay $25 via Paypal for a proven working fix for 3.7.4

ShackMaster 12-22-2008 07:33 PM

I will also chip in $25 for a functioning error free update.

h2ojunkie 12-22-2008 07:34 PM

I've updated the mod to work on 3.7 and 3.8 and added support for subdomains on the safelist.

i.e. if you add imageshack.us to your allowed url list any subdomain of imageshack is also allowed such as i304.imageshack.us for example

I don't like to re-release other people's mods, but I guess I could be convinced in this situation.

However, I've removed some functionality as well that I didn't need. In my version you can no longer have threads/posts copies to a forum to see the spam that was posted. Instead, I've changed it so that any post detected as spam is left intact and just sent to the moderation que.

oninuva 12-22-2008 07:36 PM

Could you make it work with 3.8.0

ShackMaster 12-22-2008 08:06 PM

Do you have a link to the update so we can try it out?

That's awesome, please send it over.

You can email me chad @ talkjesus.com - I'd really appreciate it.

Would this be a valid upgrade or just uninstall the original and install yours?

I think its fair enough to re-release this mod since the author is not responding to this thread, pm's and not logged in for nearly 3 months. Its actually a mod that should be part of vbulletin by default. I'm baffled why such features are not part of VB by default.

Unfortunately the updated version is still not functioning properly.

What's not working? I've been using it for about a month without issue.

Check your mod thread.

Got it, I responded there.

GrendelKhan{TSU 12-23-2008 06:51 AM

awesome mod...
quick quiestion.... if a thread gets "caught"... how does an admin go in then "approve" the thread in case of a false positive?

only way I could tell was to manually move the thread and change the title.

woostar 12-23-2008 05:38 PM

I'm really sorry for not keeping on top of this. I've had a really full work load and let personal projects slip.

I'll try and sort this over the xmas holiday and get a fix out asap.

Again sorry for those that rely on this mod. This started out as a personal mod and public beta as an after thought.

Chadi 12-23-2008 06:15 PM

I installed the beta version you released in the other thread and I got this blank response when I was testing it out

Thanks for your efforts. Merry Christmas

PS: it says in this beta release that you cannot put private messages into queue. Actually, you can as shown in this mod
which I'm using. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=118983 (still works in 3.7.4)

I can't download it - would be interested in adding this feature (either the standalone version or a C4S version).
Any chance you can email it to me.

Be careful that version is totally a work in progress. Not sure what installing over the top of the previous version will do (could be why it is blank). I'll install 3.8 on my dev site and make sure it works with all the uptodate vB's.

Merry Christmas to you too :)

Chadi 12-23-2008 06:57 PM

Thanks. Email sent, please confirm receipt.

I uninstalled the original before installing the beta.

woostar 12-23-2008 07:08 PM

Got your email. Thanks :)

As mentioned in this thread, I have a bug in your Check4spam, which others on vb.com also have:
PHP Code:

Warningpreg_replace() [function.preg-replace]: Unknown modifier '/' in [path]/includes/functions_newpost.php(376) : eval()d code on line 24

Woostar mentioned:
Quote:

ahhhhhhhhh - I think I know why....
These lines:
PHP Code:

foreach ($allowedurls as $allowedurl) {

$message = (preg_replace('/(\[url=?"?\]?)(https?\:\/\/)?(www\.)?' $allowedurl '\/?"?\]?(.*?)?\[\/url\]/i'''$message));
        }

Should be:
PHP Code:

foreach ($allowedurls as $allowedurl) {

$allowedurl str_replace('/''\/'$allowedurl);

$message = (preg_replace('/(\[url=?"?\]?)(https?\:\/\/)?(www\.)?' $allowedurl '\/?"?\]?(.*?)?\[\/url\]/i'''$message));
        }

Will have to have a proper look at the code.
Please update the file.

If you have E-Gold, then please let me know. I'd like to donate to you.

Updated with a fix. Hopefully this will sort the problem (would have only affected those with certain URL's in their safelist).

Let me know.

Will sort out a full upgrade after xmas.

ShackMaster 12-26-2008 01:57 AM

Another issue I am having other than the usergroup exception list not working is that when a user with less than 5 posts quotes another post with a URL, it places the post in moderation queue. I am not sure if there is a way around this or not.
