maybe adding on a bug/support add-on like vbulletin.com for each hack:) so it would be easier to sort through actual technical posts and posts of praise;)

How does an FAQ system sound whereby authors can submit a series of questions and answers for their modification and have them displayed on a seperate page. We could then place perhaps a message in the quick reply box and newreply.php within the hack forums that says please be sure to check the FAQ (linked) before posting a question :)?

Sounds good to me. If it really aggrivates members, then it should be fixed someway. :)

Of course, anyone who publishes their prized work for everyone to see and use deserves reward. Unfortunately, the type of follow-up posts that caused my initial outburst are far from reward, but clutter in the way of access to the publisher's works.

Perhaps an eBay style feedback forum where you get to post comments on an author only if you click install for the published hack. This way, the author gets a rating, plus you can lavish the author with your one-liner praises or otherwise.

At a minimum, all bug reports and revisions should be summarized and set sticky at the top of the pile. And, by the way, thank you for this forum. It has done well to get me going in my now five week successful adventure of moving eight years of WebBBS posts to vBulletin.

I think a simple way to implement the FAQ qould be to allow authors / co-developers to mark any post in a thread as "useful" in terms of solving problems, or being applicable to the questions users might have?

Or, as is evidenced in AN-Net's Journal hack, add bugfixes/important posts to the first post in the thread, with links and explanations.

As we see the first post on every page now, that would be an excellent quick-ref point for people.

Now, if only we could trust everyone to
a) search the thread using the tool provided or
b) read the first post

Then all would be well...I remember when I needed to ask stupid questions, and although I may look at many many posts and think 'Duh! If you can't see the hack on your non-default templates, obviously you need to edit those too you moron!', we were all (well most of us anyway) at that stage in the beginning. :)

Four years later and nothing has changed. I still have to sift through a big pileup just to get to that one precious tidbit of information required to update a hack or make it work.

Please regard this as constructive, but I also needed to make the observation. :(

LOL - I think the authors like the praise - it's just part of the system = DEAL WITH IT :P
Seriously though - perhaps vB.org can install the post-thankyou hack LOL
But this is funny right here:
btw is there a hack like this for vb2?!? = Muuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaahahahahaaaa! https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Jacquii.

Hmmmm. Install the POST THANKS hack. Yup!

Also flags on the threads to denote UPDATED (just like they already do with INSTALLED or DOWNLOADED). There has to be an easier way than searching through the pile to get to the gold. :erm:

Updated mods are already flagged as "Updated".
