Out of the 10 years you'll do a work placement for a year or two where you'll be getting a salary. ;)

He won't have to pay the loan back until he is in full time employment, so the work placement will not be counted as he will still be recieving his student loan;)

It is different in Canada...you get a loan, then they beat you with a whip and go after your parents if you don't pay it.

Depends on country. In most continental Europe systems, you have to follow this step:
a) Graduate degree (4 years)
b) Master degree (2 years which gives you "expert of ..." title)
c) Doctorate degree (4 years which gives you "doctor of ...." title)

You can not skip steps so must complete one to proceed one step further.

I found out today off my computing tutor that you have to do a 3year course in Computer Science followed by an extended three years doing the course in which some time you have to make some kind of publication. So look out for "vBulletin Modifications for Dummies". Coming to a bookstore near you within 6 years time ;)..

In America it is poor etiquette to refer to yourself as Dr. Whatever when you are not a medical doctor -- UNLESS it is in a purely social situation. So.. PhDs here do not have Dr. Whatever on their checks. I can't imagine they would even have Bob Whatever, PhD. Although medical doctors could have, "Bob Whatever, MD".

Whew... I can call myself "Dr." then... ;)

I'm trying to decide whether I should graduate with an LLB or a JD at the end of this year... probably go with the LLB since it's a recognised law degree in Australia, althought the JD is more recognised in the US.
