This was quite a few years ago (around 2005 or 2006) and Godaddy admitted it was on their end and that someone gained access to an entire server hacking all sites on that server. Not just mine. The site was never hacked prior to moving to Godaddy and has never been hacked since leaving Godaddy.

In my opinion, Godaddy is bottom of the barrel hosting and I would never recommend them to anyone.

I do not think their shared hosting is good for large sites but I know many people that have used it for many years on smaller Wordpress and vbulletin sites without any issues.

Also, you are going back very far and I am sure that was a rare situation.

At any rate I would not recommend them for hosting anything but smaller sites.

I prefer a dedicated server over anything else but obviously that's overkill for the smaller sites/forums or people with a very low budget. Shared hosting on actual decent hosting providers are worth it, e.g. Stablehost. Stablehost doesn't oversell their servers and know their stuff.
