just click on it and it should download to your computer save it in a file if you want, they only problem with this is that all the files when built will be the same name so if you decide to download a new backup next week it will over write the one you have now unless you make a new folder for it so a good system is 7 folders one for each day then you could download it daily if you wanted putting each Days backup in a corresponding folder , now you have a weeks worth of data backed up and so on.. have fun

I have today saved it to my hard drive, but as I live in the middle of Australia and rely on a wireless internet connection I do not want to continue doing this. With my wireless internet I am limited in my downloads. I need to be able to move it across the net which makes me think I need a database just for storing my backups.

I am looking for suggestions for a host, and then what is the best way to move them, do I move them from the Godaddy "backup" or from VBulletin control panel?

you can store them since the restore is going to come from 2 places you have no choice in that part, go daddy will do an auto restore and it does that from where the sql file is stored by them, the copy you download will have to be uploaded to them if you manually do a restore and it will have to come from your puter so you may as well just download them . they are not huge files to get down it does how ever take time to put them back up or restore them. so best to just save them to folders on you computer that way if you restore you use the last known good file stored on godaddy , thats all you really need anyway unless you for some reason have to restore to an earlier date

hahahahaha I love my host www.vidahost.com

Logged into cPanel and there is a big shiny button that says complete back up which does exactly what it says on the tin. Backs up everything file side and DB wise and then deposits a zip in your /home folder. I've just downloaded the complete lot. I now feel secure.

How often would people do a complete back up though, once a week, once a month?

if you add mods you should

if you have had problems

if you are paranoid

if you are bored

but whatever you do you should keep one latest good known backup :D

By the by, godaddys system is one of the hardest to use or understand in my opinion

i hate their whole java based system its to ad heavy takes more time gleaning out promos and buy this stuff than its worth, a commercial monstrosity, although i do buy my domains through them i would never host it with them
