Not sure what else it could be, try clearing your cache with a hard refresh (ctrl + f5 on windows or ctrl+r on most other systems).

Hmm. I installed it and it seemed to go without a hitch, and I followed all the instructions, but I'm not getting the menu set on the admin CP :(

The IRC Chat works fine, so that part of the installation is great. I can see it and everything..
http://www.emocrap.com/forums/chat/index.php?

The formatting is a little weird, but whatever. So yeah..
Any ideas?

Its in the vBoptions, there is no specific new menu for it.

Quelyn 09-21-2004 01:47 PM

HAH, Sorry I'm a noob.
"Once the script is done go to your Admin CP and you will see a new group of options called "vBXirc Settings"."

Since I just installed VBAdvanced, I assumed that meant the same menu option thingie. Thanks for the really prompt reply. This is great, and just what I was looking for :)

sunruh 09-21-2004 11:52 PM

quelyn,

here is my screen shot (hopefully it comes out viewable).

i know how to clear the browsers cache, but how do you clear java's cache?

thanks for all the help!

i'm using java 1.4.1_02 from sun.

sunruh 09-22-2004 07:09 PM

i went to java.com and got the latest jvm. 1.4.2_05 and intalled it and rebooted. i also turned caching OFF.

YEEEHA! it works.

very odd though that it worked fine on other sites before, but not my own.

When you reinstalled java it cleared the old cache.

Firstly, great hack - keep up the good work Zach. And don't listen to these clowns complaining about next releases taking ages. You're doing it for nothing, so take your time.

Now to my issue - this hack works great for 95% of my users, but there's a couple (and one windger in particular) who get the connection refused connection null error (or whatever it says). They all reckon they have the firewalls and av's turned off, but still get this error.

I try telling them it has to be their firewalls or something, the applet works and they can get the IRC messages, they just get this connection null error. So itsn't that a firewall issue?

How can we overcome this problem Zach? Or what can I tell the so that they will PO.

If its working for 99% of your users, its just these few who are having an issue i am not sure what it could be, ask them to update their java instaltion and turn off their firewall completely and virus scanners for a short time and see if this allows them to connect.

da prez 09-24-2004 03:35 AM

after reading through all 39 pages of this thread,
i just want to say, zachery, you have the patience of a saint.

how many times has the same directory question been asked ?
how many times has the same navbar question been asked ??

after reading through this, i feel the hack isn't for me, i don't know anything about mIRC or any others,
but i wanted to thank you, nonetheless, for your tireless effort.

thanks.

People may forget that other than the web site needs to access to the IRC server. The client machine also needs to access to the IRC server after the initial connection. All the IRC sessions are sent directly to the IRC server, not via the web pages!

sunruh 09-24-2004 12:49 PM

zachery,
is there a hack to show either how many or who is in chat?
this would be a really cool addon for vbxirc.

Zachery 09-24-2004 02:21 PM

Yes I agree however ive not found any very good solution to this issue.

I have pondered the idea of making my own chat application but it would be in flash if anything.

i've been on a site (phpBB 2.0.6) that shows how many are in chat.

Zachery 09-26-2004 06:42 PM

Oh its possible, However I've not found any good solution to it that i am confortable with.

Current Options:
Add a new sessions table for just the chat, then record as users eneter it, however this will give a false ammount of users on the chat if they enter via their own client.

Egg Drop:
using a bot to report to the site, this can be done already with VeloCD's system

mIRC reporting:
again can already be done with VeloCD's hacks/

venomx 09-26-2004 07:14 PM

If they continued browsing the board it would be useless.

venomx 09-26-2004 10:27 PM

True.. Wonder how some of these sites are doing it then.. I am a member of one site that used only java chat and it said X users in chat.. Topic (set by) right on the forum home...

Either Eggdrop or their java chat system was more than just a chat, as in it was also a server.

venomx 09-26-2004 11:05 PM

Had to have been something with the java because it wwasnt an eggdrop because you could only chat via the chat page...

Sounds like a session was being kept for the java chat applet, this is just a IRC intergration to allow your users to chat on IRC. many of my friends and users moved from the java directly to mirc.

venomx 09-27-2004 06:02 AM

Yeah I love IRC... I love mIRC. I use it all the time and thats why I went with your hack..

Zachery 09-28-2004 01:01 PM

Try to connect to differnt networks untill one works?

venomx 09-28-2004 03:26 PM

Or do like me and run your own server... thing is if noone uses the chat the server is kinda dead.. LOL

kur1j 09-28-2004 11:35 PM

Ok what the heck is going on here... i installed java for firefox and it still wont let me on :-/. Just shows the white screen saying "No application for this" or something like that.
