I`m using the google member map mod on my vbulletin board.

I`ve just moved the forum over to a new server. Instead of moving the files over, I installed a fresh install of vbulletin and simply imported the old database so I keep posts, members, settings etc.

I had a problem a few months ago with injections/hacking. I felt a clean code was better!

Anyways, to return my member maps. How should I proceed? Obviously all the settings are there in the database, I just do not have the source code/files installed.

Removing the $footer from the vbgooglemapme template did the trick for me. It took a few minutes to update (maybe waiting for the chron job to run again?), but I'm now showing on the map!

That might be a charset issue. IE has trouble handling the special chars in the XML.

I'll have a look. The version that is now online should handle it fine (I updated the function yesterday to force and UTF-8 xml file and Cron)

I've reinstalled after the note from the guys here at vborg only to have an issue.

When I go to 'List users' it shows all users as Administrators...this simply isn't the case.

Apparently it's not pulling the user groups appropriately?

Same on the Version for 3.6.x - but only if you view from the admin-account. view it with a "testuser" with standard-user permissions, it shows the standard user-group. But! ... in my case the markers don't show up for normal users anymore. Do you have the same issue on 3.5x as I encounter that on 3.6.7?

Is there a simple way to manually add users to the map ? Most of the my users are not overly tech savvy, and it's a bit confusing to add a map marker for them.

I know I can manually edit the markers.xml file to add users, but not sure if that'll screwup synchronization with Google ?

there is an edit function in admincp once they entered something

via phpmyadmin you could insert it in the table. The marker.xml is created by updating a marker or running the cron

Yesterday it was working fine.

Edit: I found the problem with mine. A user added an image and used full html code to it which broke the XML. If you are having the same issue and can't find where it is, open http://www.yourdomain.com/yourforumpath/markers.xml with Firefox and check where the error occurs. This only applies if you had the addon working and it suddenly broke for no reason.

Remember to manually run the cron tab after editing the offending marker, otherwise the file markers.xml won't be updated right away.

just installed it last night on my board. Very nice. Only had one glitch but that was a user error, me being the user. Got that figured out. Since I run a college sports related board, I use the image section to put an image of my favorite team's logo.

I reinstalled as soon as the new version came out and it worked fine. Updated to the latest and it still worked fine but for some reason I am now getting an error on the page message and the markers are not being plotted.

If I go to the list view I can see the members who have added themselves and all the information so that is still working. The map also displays okay but no markers. I have not added any new modifications and have checked the file permissions. I even uploaded the files again just in case they had got corrupt.

Anybody any idea what has happened?

Hi guys,

About the markers. Had the same problem, they didn't show.
They all came back after I went to the admin panel and designated other marker colors to the usergroups in "ME Usergroup marker" in the admin panel. After running the googlemap cron, all markers showed again. :)

If I view the user list which have set their marker on the map, the link "Show on map" does not work.
It brings you to the map but it does not focus nor zoom onto the member

We do need a permanent fix for the markers issue. I keep having to check the map every few weeks and it seems there is always someone who has stuck something in there that makes the markers disappear and I have to go through the routine of clearing the marker and the user entry.

This product is marked as supported, but it doesn't appear to be supported since this bug has been ongoing for some time now.

A permanent fix would be great! Thanks!

The problem will be with the pictures the users have linked to. If they put anything in this field other than a 100% correct picture URL none of the pins will show.

This has been discussed on the thread on this mod in the 3.6 add-ons section. I ended up changing a line of the code to ignore any picture URLs and it works fine now.

The only bit I was interested in was finding this bit

Which with my simple understanding of code means that whatever the result of the "if" command it will always insert no image. Effectively ignoring whatever the user might put in the image field. Not exactly elegant but it works for me.

You need to make the same change to both files I did not bother with the other bits and then run the cron thing for good measure (told you I was not very technical:rolleyes:)

I am using the newest versiom: 3.0.1

I have the problem, that the zoom level does not work if you using the link in the postbit for example. It always shows me the default zoom level and not the one i had chosed for the detailed view.

Hi,

I just had the problem that no markers were showing up. I just typed in "javascript:" in the address field of Firefox and noticed that one of the last entries in the markers.xml file was not well formed. Apparently one should not allow users to type in text into the pimage field. I edited the markers.xml file manually and corrected the malformed entry and my makers showed up again.

@Obi Wan: tippe mal im Firefox javascript: in die Adresszeile ein. Gibt es da einen Hinweis auf einen falschen Eintrag in der makers.xml?

Right, it would get overwritten with the malformed markers anyway after the next cronjob run. So my solution was to remove the pimage input-fields completely and I also removed the image tab from the bubbles in the map.

I went to approve the long list of people (didn't realize I needed to since I wasn't the person that installed this mod originally) and now we have nothing. Of our 225+ users who have put a spot on that map, none of them are showing up now.

I take it the developer of this mod is MIA?

many times i ve changed this and try set other and other, but it seems that the markers are get from the Primary group (registered users) and even when i change my default and displayed group to other still got the same colour of marker

This script only goes by the primary usergroup. My edition goes by display group as I hacked a fix into mine.
When you set the primary group remember you must run the cron job to recreate the markers.xml before the marker will change.

FF even is better browser than IE, got better error handling and is less sensitive for errors.

your error can be cause of some mistype in adding the translation or something else.
try check that markers image (in user fields) are really absolute links to images. i was similar error but when i check every entrier made by users i found the "bad link to image" which cause the errors or not showing up the markers on map.

FYI - I haven't had time to investigate the cause, but disabling the mouseover support seems to have fixed the no-marker issue. If I have time, I'll try to look into fixing the code so that enabling it doesn't break it, but this may help a few people who ran into the same problem as I did.

Thx ZerHour for the fix. Now inside the VBGooglemap page i get less errors (before i got like 29 errors, now only 2). Unfortunatelly, still no pins on the map (and i made markers.xml from zero).

ZeroHour's fix worked for me also. Thanx, ZeroHour, for going through all the trouble to come up with it.

And I've contributed some other fixes and additions in the 3.6 thread: VBGooglemap Member Edition (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=123148)

They are:

* In edit mode, the marker is always the vbGoogleMap red marker, instead of Google Maps's default marker.

* Mousewheel zooming is enabled.

* Terrain display is enabled.

* When mousing over does not make a vbGoogleMap info balloon, it instead makes a HTML-element title that contains the username. This fix thus produces the best of both worlds: a nondisruptive quick look, and a detailed info balloon with more info.

I haven't made terrain display an option for the default display, because I'd have to do a lot of tracking down of where it is set and handled and so forth.

I have also explored the feasibility of making markers draggable in edit mode. It is easy to set up a draggable marker; when you create it, include draggable:true in its marker options. But you also have to set up some event listeners for the marker's motions, and that's a bit trickier and more difficult to debug.

BTW, the site I'm a sysadmin of is at vBulletin 3.7.0 and I've had no troubles that can reasonably be attributed to vBulletin being at this version.

There are several improvements that I didn't bother to try to make:

But if you people are interested, I could try to make them.

To add draggability you set draggable:true in the marker's options, then set up a GEvent listener that gets the "moveend" event and updates the displayed position accordingly. The reason that it was not originally present was because vbGoogleMap had originally been coded for an older version of the Google Map API that had lacked this and several other convenient features.

I'm getting confused. Are you wanting the info bubbles to always be visible?

That is, without needing to mouse over or click on their markers. The AdminCP option I'd referred to earlier was for setting mouseover vs. clicking.

As far as can tell from the Google Maps API reference (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/reference.html) and elsewhere on "info windows", there is only one info-bubble object per map, but one that vbGoogleMap revises each time one mouses over or clicks on a marker. That fixed the disappearing-markers problem for me; it is due to the original version producing malformed XML for <forum-root>/markers.xml

And I invite you people to try out my fixes also.

This plug-in has a notoriously bad time with special characters. One would have to do some extra coding for such markers. In particular:

Code for displaying them
User interface for setting them up
Database interface for storing and retrieving their info

But one might use the existing code as a guide for what coding to do, though I am concerned that doing so will violate StonyArc's copyrights.

I don't have a test forum to work with, so some of you other people will have to code this. But I can help with the Google Maps parts; I can create HTML-page mockups with working code. And while I have some expertise with the Google Maps API, I don't have any with database-interface code. I have an elementary knowledge of SQL, and that's it.

Finally, has anyone tried contacting StonyArc? It would be nice to have his permission for using his code and posting updated archives, if he chooses to give it.

I don't see why you couldn't change the markers.xml directly. Something like this;

Of course the link to the member's profile will result in a message that the user does not exist. But the rest should work fine.

The big problem is that markers.xml gets refreshed by a cron job, and by editing marker info. So one has a choice of:

Doing some coding to support such markers
Creating some sockpuppet accounts whose "locations" are those hardcoded places

ZeroHour has come up with a fix over in the vB-3.6 vbGooglemap thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=123148), so you can check there. You'll have to edit some code files and re-upload them, but it works. It turns ' into \', but that's a small price to pay, because fixing that would mean more code rewriting.

hello i upgraded my 3.6 board to 3.8.4 but now the pins are gone. i used the fix from a few posts befor and now i can see the ballon tips but not the pins. when i try to start the cron job i get the following error msg:

Ok I'm at a loss. No matter what I try I can't get the pins to show up with the mouseover enabled.

I installed 3.0.1 today and did the missing marker fix in post 1697 and the only way I can get the pins to show up is to disable mouseover.

For those who are still having issues with the markers / pins showing up, I figured out what the cause was. I had a script within my footer that displayed ads. One of the ads was googleadsense. I don't know if it was the ad display script or the google adsense script that made my markers disappear, but removed the $footer from the VBGOOGLEMAPME template, and pasted the code from the footer template in there instead and just removed the ad script/adsense script and my markers are back!

It works fine on VB 3.8.5 and 3.8.6PL1. If you have issues with the markers showing, look into other scripts in the header or footer that are interfering, probably google adsense.
