I may be missing something or just dense, but...

i added the scheduled task and ran it (more than one) but none of my users are showing up and my map is blank. what do i do?

If you click ME full view does it show them?

Seems like the scheduled task isn't running correctly.

If your click run now does it show a page with "done" on it?

If so just click your entry on the main map and click update. That should fix it.

For privacy reasons a user has to enter his entry on the map. I always give the advice to enter it on a nearby landmark.

As global geodcoding based on addresses is expensive and most of the users don't want to give the address that isn't released.

I however have written the code to do just that.

ok i installed your other hack for the googlemaps in the user profile field and i added myself that way but i'd like to avoid having each user do it manually.

additionally... i can't get the link to show up in the post bit to click on a user and take you to their spot on the map, when i put it in, it only shows up for admin.

If you have a reference database of course mostly that's on a nearby city.


If you have the money to spend you could even do it on telephone number for all I care.

you need an IP to location reference database. That's custom code.

Respect the privacy of users is one of the rules for using this so you should leave it up to your users to be on it or not. The detail level is very high is some regions.

Did find one problem when it added the $post[findme] in the postbit it added the entry next to the online status and when clicking the My Location it interferred with the drop down menu for the user next to the online status so I manually moved the My Location link right below the member name and work great.. There is an approval system in place.

You either auto approve an entry or an admin needs to approve an entry by using the admincp

Check the settings.

It's all explained in the pdf file too.

i really hate to be a pain, but this is so close to being 100% the other user that's not showing up is actually a member of the same usergroup as i am. he's another admin. that's why i can't figure why one shows up and the other does not

I see 2 users both admins jerseymutt and you in the markers.xml and on the map.

Please make sure you upload all files in the upload directory and overwrite any existing files.

Also do a full refresh of the FULL browser. admincp is a frames page.

As the markers.xml isn't recreated anymore on each load if you change the setting of the usergroup you'll have to force the cron to run to create the file by clicking run now

or by going to the map, clicking your entry and clicking update which also forces a reload.

that should fix it.

I'm not able to simulate the issue.

Can you make sure that the $post[findme] is put outside any of the conditions (if's) just to make sure.

Please check the autoapprove option for automatic approval. There is also an approval engine for new markers.

That's because you are loading a different style.

If you are running different styles please upload the marker images to the correct images directory too and not only to the main styles dir.


Also make sure you have set the marker colours for the usergroups in the admincp

Hi - another great update to an already great extension.

I have been trying to solve the issue of using a user's Display Group ID rather than their Primary User Group ID - and made the following change of line 71 of the vbgooglemapme.php code from:

$usergroupid = $vbulletin->userinfo['usergroupid'];

to:

$usergroupid = $vbulletin->userinfo['displaygroupid'];

This value is set by vbulletin to either the displaygroupid (if a member has specified one), otherwise it will be set to the primary usergroupid. Would you expect this to work for new entries?

Perhaps this is something that could be switchable in a future version?

As the online real time information on the map was the online information that had to go. The markers.xml file is now only updated by the Cron or by a update/insert of new information. There are enough places in vbulletin where online information is shown.

Thats normally solved by uploading the product again. You can try doing it ASCII mode.

I also included some changes in the cron so that this non blocking error will occur no longer in some cases

You can edit the php file remove the header changing info. It's not needed in the function.

As it's a warning in the scheduled task you can safely ignore it. I won't affect any functions.

The new release will correct this issue for all. I have the same warning on my server so don't worry too much.

When loading the your entry the marker on there shows the location stored in the database.

When you click next to it a new marker will be set.

However if you don't hit UPDATE the new markers position will not be commited and will therefor not show.

When loading the your entry the marker on there shows the location stored in the database.

When you click next to it a new marker will be set.

However if you don't hit UPDATE the new markers position will not be commited and will therefor not show.

If you are running specific styles you need to upload the images to that directory too.

Als don't forget to set all the usergroup markers in the admincp before launching it.

You can select a usergroup marker and set the usergroup to show or not show in the legend

that should fix your issue.

Something doesn't work with this relating to usergroups.

I have many user groups, but only have two colour markers. Light blue for every usergroup APART from Global and Forum Moderators (green) and Administrators (orange).

For some reason, some moderators appear the correct colour, some appear light blue. They all have either forum or global moderator as their primary usergroup.

Any guesses?

Normally it should show the primary.

Make sure you force a recreate of the XML by

running the scheduled task or click your entry and the update button.

You may want to give the suggestion from DRN a try. But I'll check.

I have been trying to solve the issue of using a user's Display Group ID rather than their Primary User Group ID - and made the following change of line 71 of the vbgooglemapme.php code from:

$usergroupid = $vbulletin->userinfo['usergroupid'];

to:

$usergroupid = $vbulletin->userinfo['displaygroupid'];

Still not working. For example I have a global moderator (primary usergroup) showing with the regular "registered" coloured pin. That's making the above change and re-running the cron task etc.

Can you please check what usergroupid is in the googlemapme table in the database.

I think that that isn't the correct ID.

You can add an 'order by' to the query

If you open the vbgooglemapme.php on line 163 (or about there depending on your editor)

look for
$gettypes= $db->query("SELECT title,googlemapmetype FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "usergroup where showonvbgme = '1'");

and replace by

$gettypes= $db->query("SELECT title,googlemapmetype FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "usergroup where showonvbgme = '1' ORDER BY title DESC");

if you add usergroupid after select you can also order on that or any other field in that query for that matter.

the phrase is called vbgooglemapme_findme. You can edit it in the product file and reupload it with overwrite to yes or use the phrasemanager to edit it.

If you enter the same textarea in the vbgooglemapme_display_yourlocation and vbgooglemapme_set_yourlocation it should work.

On edit the value of the $text_map should be shown and on set and update. You shouldn't have to copy it. It's retrieved from the database.

Changed it in vbgooglemapme_set_yourlocation and copy&pasted into vbgooglemapme_display_yourlocation. So there's exactly the same textarea-code. But when editing it's empty. I've tried leaving it empty thinking it would be retrieved anyway, but an error message has been displayed...

That should be done on the settings page where you entered the key. There are a lot of options on there.

The only error I see is that you haven't assigned all usergroups or have hidden them from the legend.

Yes! That has been the problem!
The strange char has been a <
It occurred because in the Map-text they hit return to begin a new line, which has been set as a <br \> by the system, which consequentely caused that error.

I'm sure, it will happen again. Because it's a normal behaviour pressing return when writing a text. Is there an easy work-around?

woot, i solved my problem! I disinstalled it, i deleted all tables with phpmyadmin, i deleted all the files vbgooglemap related and i started the installation. After the install, it finally rebuild the template bits on usergroup modification page. Now it works!

I noticed if i change the usergroup of a member who inserted predecely his location on the map, he appears in the old usergroup (the one when he applied on googlemap). Is this an issue? I have to change the usergroup row on the *_googlemapme table manually.

I have just installed a clean version - set all permissions and the map shows fine.

When I go to add myself, I fill in all of the fields and I get this message:

"Your marker title could not be added into the database because one or more fields blank were left blank. Please make sure you have enter all required information.
Return to previous page"

What can I try?

I tried searching, but 95 pages is a bit much. Is zip code support still planned for this? I don't think my members would use it much otherwise. It's a fantastic mod, but a bit complex for regular members to quickly add themselves.

The message only appears when you don't enter all required information. It may be a revelation to you but you might want to try filling out all fields before submitting the form.
And your remark about it being a MySQL issue is hilarious. If you don't know anything about the topic at hand, just don't say anything.

I had the same problem until I run the scheduled task. One of the last steps.

Sorry, but what does that mean?
SELinux is a security layer which is enabled in some linux distributions. It can stop scripts working is they are not registered properly.

You can check its status in the linux shell by typing the command "sestatus".

I did a Search thread query and came up with nothing, but thought I'd just mention this in case other members ran across this as well. I'm not really having a problem. I've only noticed that when I go to[List users] and then Edit anyone's information, I see Delete your information [] Delete the marker information. Clicking this checkbox and then Update the information doesn't delete the user's marker that you are wanting to delete. It deletes your own :P

Great hack, installed and all work fine except on member that has an apostrophe in thier username, they get an SQL error when posting. I tested this out with a user called test'user and I get the same error. Can this be resolved?

I noticed if i change the usergroup of a member who inserted predecely his location on the map, he appears in the old usergroup (the one when he applied on googlemap). Is this an issue? I have to change the usergroup row on the *_googlemapme table manually.

I'm also having this problem. I have a new users usergroup where people have to post a couple times before they get promoted into the registered users usergroup... the promotions work fine but the markers and the list are not updated. I rebuilt the bitfields just in case that had something to do with it but nothing changed, I ran the cron and I even edited the members' entry without changing anything and saved it.

I haven't tried reinstalling the product, is that the only next option?

Great modification! I installed it and got it working.

Initially my markers were not showing up. I followed the PDF to the step, so I viewed the source inside the compiled .php file and noticed all the missing images had the same name: mm_20_.png. In the Administration Panel -> VBGooglemapME -> ME Usergroup Marker, I had to set the Markers before anything would show up. There were no default colors loaded. This might be something to address.

I got the postbit working and now I'm making changes to it. I failed initially because I wasn't editing the legacy postbit.

I had a few suggestions / requests:
1) Show avatars by default.
2) Change the maps' tooltips. I have never played with Googlemaps API before, but I've seen a few sites that work a little better, such as this one (http://www.pixeldevelopment.com/pdmarker_simpleexample.asp), where it automatically could show the username when moused-over, then clicking could reveal the current menu. The reason I dislike the current tooltips is because if entries are close together, you either must click the (X) to close them or find another one far enough away to let you change the selected marker, rather than simply mousing-over to see who's who. I hope this makes sense.
3) Add a warning to the map (maybe configurable in the panel) that tells people that it could take 10 minutes to show new entries on the map. This was an easy enough hack though.
4) Have an option to show usersonline (as in the main forum listing) below the map or its key.

Thanks again for a great plugin, I'm going to play with it extensively.

Edit - realized the default zoom (when clicking the postbit option) is 10, and it's hardcoded into the XML

This is indeed a wonderful hack and so far so good it appears to be working but with one slight problem.

I have set the legend to show admin, supermod, and registered usergroup makers and have switched the others to zero. In doing so the rejected usergroups were all assigned the yellow marker. Admin was assigned red, supermod was assigned green and registered was assigned light blue.

When I go to re-place my marker it shows up as red, however on the main map it shows up as yellow (ie not one of the visible usergroups). Why is this?

Hi guys, after long watching why the markers doesnt show i went to conclusion that something is affecting the page to show the markers.
So i tried to remove things from the page and finally i managed to Show the map correctly including the markers and all the rest info.
The thing i did is going to my templates and i edited the VBGOOGLEMAPME template by removing the $footer in the end of the file.

I still doesnt know why the footer does the tricks to the Addon but honestly im damn happy that all working fine.. i suppose some hack or addon interfears with the API or something simillar.

The same trick for me worked for the HotSpot Edition also and the only problem i have now in both addons is the if you add Greek things in your Entry they show in the map as Japanese... well i suppose i can leave with this for a bit of time.

It's working on our forum...except we're running into one snag.

The individual that installed this mod initially shows up fine on the map. Now I've gone in (another admin) and added my information. I approved my addition and now I show up in the user list along with the initial person. However, I'm not showing up on the map. The first person is showing up though.

EDIT: I tried removing the $footer in the main template for this mod and it didn't change anything.

EDIT2: not sure what happened, but it's there now.

I have version 3.6.5 and vbadvanced. I uploaded the files and st permission to 777. Step 5 says that there should appear a vbgoolemap ME link in the admin on the left side in the navigation.

I cant see it even when I press refresh...does anybody has an idea what I am doing wrong???

I have it set up, and there's a link on my navibar, but I can't click it. Is there an easy fix for this, did I do something wrong?

we use this great plugin and it is working fine ( good job).

Just the Link to a users map does not work..

for example this link shows only standard coordinates and zoomlevel set in Admin.

What happen ??
