vB Ring - Promote your site (linking system with external list)

Promote your board by becoming part of a vB Ring. Adds a button to the bottom of your site that, if clicked, opens a new window with a random link to any other forum in the vB Ring.

Your site will be randomly linked to from all the other forums in the list.

To be added to the list, you need to :
a) Add your boards name below (to prove it is legal)
b) Install this hack, so you are participating in the ring

Optionally email me to get your site on the list, after posting it here. Just in case I miss it on this thread.

Yeah, it'll need people to add to it from the start, to build it up, but I reckon it could be a great tool. If your board has a link from just one other board on its homepage then the traffic should shoot up, so with a lot of boards it should do great business.

It's deliberately at the bottom. The premise is, if your forum is quiet then hopefully people will click the vB Ring button and thereby the recipricol links thing happens. As opposed to, I dunno, visiting BBC or Google, instead. Matter of taste totally agree!

But there's a little problem, you just promote english speaking/writing boards (ok you can also put german speaking boards in your list, but the effect isn't the same). So i tought bout building a german vBRing at www.vbhacks-germany.com, the official german vB-Hack-Site. If you want to, you can expain me your script and send it per E-Mail. This a nice idea, I know there are loads of other Web Rings Out there, but seeing as this is for vBulletin sites only. It's a pretty neat idea.

However it seems to be loyality based after reading a few posts and your going to get people installing the banner at first, then removing it which is the only downside.

Thanks for that, I'm going to give it a good check over tomorrow, the banner has got to be on the first link (ie, generally speaking the default skin) as an absolute minimum.

32 interlinked forums at present, which is good for Google, plus it's adding members slowly but steadily.

just wondering has anyone seen any positive traffic from this ? i had it for a month or 2 and never had a new sign up from it.. just seems like it's giving the owner of the main site more traffic then anything ?

1st try: NO vBring button

6th Try: No vBRing button, and I don't even think this is a vBulletin forum!

I agree. I think that for this to truly work, a website would have to be setup where people can go and see the stats on things like how many times there site was shown, and the sites need to be regularly checked for code. The honor system, just doesn't work anymore!

Out of 30 trys my forum only came up once. I intended on keeping the code anyway, but since I moved address and added a new style, I didnt see the hastle in adding it again.
