Can you explain what are the ramifications of the overwriting of the vbulletin_editos.css ? I also notice the header of the .CSS says RC2.

Thanks !

This is purely optional but if you overwrite the 'vbulletin_editos.css' with the one included in this distro/skin the wysiwyg editor will have a border colour (a light grey instead of blue) which matches this style, nothing major

The RC2 file was probebley an oversight on my behalf but i don't think anything has changed for this file for the final version of vB

I'm coming across the same thing. It's trying to call files from a directory I don't even have (replacing my "/testvb" directory with "/forums directory:

http://www.domain.com/forums/images/ibulletin/misc/header_outp_II_01.gif

when it *SHOULD* be calling for:

http://www.DOMAIN.com/testvb/images/ibulletin/misc/header_outp_II_01.gif (http://www.domain.com/testvb/images/ibulletin/misc/header_outp_II_01.gif)

But with the pics you have up, it looks like it'll be a nice addition!

Take it easy

As you could see on the picture uploaded, the part where you would see the user CP and other links is white. I looked at your screenshots and it's grey.

What part of the code in the CSS controls that so I can look at it.

Seems like the problem may have only been for me, but at any rate I found out what it was.

In the Popup Menu Controls & Table Footer the code was: url(images/ibulletin/gradients/outp_01.gif) repeat-x top left

If I looked at the box next to the text it was clear like no value was set for it. Tried saving it got same result. Tried again as #000000 url(images/ibulletin/gradients/outp_01.gif) repeat-x top left and clicked box b4 saving. It updated color to black and images work now. It's like field didn't detect anything before.

Maybe it's just me. Anyway nice skin.

everything is there for your skin, just upload the 'ibulletin' folder to the images directory of your #main_forums_directory# (i.e forums or forum) - whatever you set. good luck

did you upload ALL I-bulletin gradients? (check the directory) there should be 2 - "outp_01.gif" and "outp_02.gif" there not loading...

also you have to upload the icons to the 'default' (root) icon directory
example : http://www.x7x7x7.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif

Thanks - Well I have uploaded but all the logos and icons have crosses (the path must not be correct).

Do I have to manually direct all tho logo/icon paths or should it be automatic.
I put the ibulletin folder in my forums directory.

Am I supposed to put all these folders in the VBulletin Images folder which is full of similar names folders. If you know what I mean?

You have an images directory? a default one that exists right? - place the contents of the ibulletin directory in that images directory...

Check your 'stylevars' - check your icons settings

There are some other ones the same as well - or is it just me?

For a new thread I have a blue icon - which is fine
thread_new.gif

And for a thread where I have posted I also get a blue icon, even if it is not new
thread_dot_hot.gif

A hot thread is green - which is fine
thread_hot.gif

b6gm6n

I'd simply copy ' thread_dot_hot_new.gif ' and rename it as ' thread_dot_hot.gif '

Use photoshop, edit the text or font, save for the web as : header_outp_II_01.gif

Hello B6gm6n!

I noticed that you have the calls for the header_outp_II_01.gif & header_outp_II_02.gif under the section 'Common Templates'.

I tried replacing both logos with ours (In the common templates section) and it ended up sizing the correct way, but it was being repeated across the top of the forums page.

I then tried just substituting 'header_outp_II_01.gif' and it stretched it by like 4X, then next to it was the running bar.

Is there a simple way, of just taking those two gifs out of the picture and replacing it with our small logo?

Thanks again amigo!

Hey b6!

Thanks for the quick response!

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm new to the world of forums and have no coding experience. Sounds easy enough though, I'll let you know how it goes.

One last question, I'm not familiar with how licensing agreements for 'Styles' work, but are we allowed to remove the 'I-Bulletin Copyright Tag' on your Style?

Just want to make sure that it's ok and that nothing will 'nuke' my install should I do it.

Thanks again amigo...kick-ass style!

Now I am not 100% sure on this particular style, but most people won't allow you to remove credit from their skins if you download a free version. Some skin makers will allow you to do this for a small fee, but I am not sure about this particular skin.

I want to know if anyone else who has installed this has done a test to see if its xhtml & css compliant.

I did the test myself and there were only a few errors. It started with around 9 different errors. In the footer I changed all instances of:
<br>
to
<br />
and now I only have 6 left, but I am not sure how to fix them.

I will post any other fixes I find and would appreciate the same in return.

Hey B6;

I went ahead and just copied/pasted the 'header' for the 'default style' in vB and then simply added my 'logo' under 'Title Image'.

All looks great except for one minor thing:

The logo is a bit too far to the left. Like if you look at this screenshot:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=34954

...the letter 'I' in the 'I-Bulletin' logo is nice and flush almost, to the square border of the forums.

What can I insert into the code, so it moves the new logo slightly to the right?

Other than that, all looks very good!

Thanks!

Hey B6!

Thanks so much for the tip, it made a huge difference! I've attached a jpeg to try to show exactly what I need to do now, to see if you have any ideas.

The first choice is, if there is an easy way, to put more 'white space' between the actual logo and the table border itself?

The second is, if there is a way I can actually move the logo slightly more to the right, so that it lines up flushed with the actual table border?

Any suggestions? Anyone?

Thanks!

Hello,
Greate skin, but too bright. Is there any possibility to make it darker?

Very good question! - I was thinking about adding 2 more xml files, basically altered css elements which would add some colour to the original iB, i'll try not to alter the images but simply add a basic blue style, green style and what ever else to the original distro and you can pick and choose a colour.

Keep a look out in this thread for an update.

Great skin, thanks for all your work.

I've installed it and done some of my own tweaking and I had some questions for you. I'm a skin customizing newb, so forgive me if these questions are pretty basic.

How can I make the usernames that are displayed in a thread bigger and bold?

How can I make the usernames that are displayed in a thread bigger and bold?

Goto the main CSS (Additional CSS Definitions) at the bottom of the page and find .bigusername (see below)

.bigusername {
font-family: Verdana;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: bold;
}

Hey B6;

Just want to say thanks again for the stye! By the way, I have a quick question;

When people visit the Forums Main page and enter their 'username' and 'password' I notice that there's a little check box to the right of it and it defaults to 'checked'.

I'm assuming that this check box is the 'remember me' option. The only thing is, even if I leave it checked, when I log on, it 'un-checks' for a split second then it logs me in.

This isn't really a big deal, but I notice that after like an hour or two of innactivity, I have to re-login.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again,

Joe

Try this :

ACP > Cookies and HTTP Header Options > Time-Out for Cookie
Sounds like a vB setting for cookies anyways, you using 3.5 final?

The login template i used just removed the phrases and remakes the login table...thats it, shouldn't be any problem with that as it's basically the default!

Hey B6!

Sorry for the newbie questions and thanks again for your help! I followed your instructions and I'm going to 'bump up' the amount of seconds for the cookie expiration, it's currently at 900 seconds.

Also...yes, I am using 3.5 Gold.

I seem to have an error in my member list. The don't get the drop down box that allows for searching member names. IE gives off an "Done, but errors on page". Please see attachment for error details. I have quite a few mods installed on the board, but the memberlist template is untouched. Tried it in IE 7 and Firefox 1.5 neither worked.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Any ideas about this one b6? :ermm:

B6;

Thanks so much for the update. Here's a newbie question/concern:

I've never managed a forum until now, we went live yesterday and now have about 150+ members (hopefully still growing).

My concern is, I plan on upgrading to 3.5.1 at some point this weekend, but that would mean I have to close the forum momentarily.

- What are some tips on doing this?

- What's a good way to prepare ahead of time?

- Also, I did do some slight tweaking as you might recall, how can I be 100% sure, if these updates to the templates will affect my customization?

Thanks again for help, I spent so much time getting this all right, I wouldn't want to mess it all up for the sake of upgrading.

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi joe, i would do what i do...post a warning to your members in an annoucement just to give them advance notice when the board will be down, yes close the board and you should be ok while you upgrade, some templates may not need to be reverted, check the 3.5.1 update thread for more info on this.

the I-Bulletin skin only needs to have 2 templates reverted to fall inline with 3.5.1, they are the navbar and postbit templates, 3.5.1 will tell you what template need to be reverted, this does not effect the way I-Bulletin works or looks, so you'll be ok, good luck

Check this post (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1002387&postcount=3) for more info on the templates that need to be reverted, simply meaning to take the template to it's default state.

This is very cool. I have installed all the colors.

Any chance of making a black one? or a Earth Tone one?

Also, when posting a message, there is a grey box inside of the message box? It does not cause problems, but it looks wierd. Also, it confuses my users when they quoting a previous post. Can it be removed?

Is that grey box like my screen shot?

ACP > vBulletin Options > Message Posting Interface Options (just enable standard controls) and see what happens, i would revert the postbit_legacy template on IBulletin and see what happens!, you may also have a mod installed which is doing this...

and no i wont be making anymore skins for IB...

I will check this out and get back to you.

you may also have a mod installed which is doing this...I do not think it is a mod I have installed. I have done zero file edits in my vbb and none of my other styles are doing this. However, all of the IB styles are doing this.

B6, thanks for the info! A few final questions...and yes, newbie as usual;

1.) If I have to upload 3.5.1 to my server, isn't that essentially replacing/writing over the current installation? Also if I do this, wouldn't that like erase the 'ibulletin' folder that is inside the 'images' directory? Also I have other folders with extra smilies and icons, will these also be 'written over'?

If the answer is yes to this then, I guess what I need to do is this:

- Delete my 'forums' install folder

- Upload the new 3.5.1 forums folder and rename it to match my current install

- Upload all of the 'extra' folders including the 'ibulletin folder' and put it back in the 'images' directory

- Then run the upgrade?

2.) Also I went into ACP >> Style Manager >> and checked out the 'navbar' and postbit' templates. Remember, I did slightly 'tweak' the ibulletin style to fit my purposes:

the 'navbar' template is in the orange, color...which I guess this isn't a big deal, it was just that the template is inherited from a parent style.

What concerns me is the 'postbit' template, this shows up in the 'red' color, which means that I customized it. If so, I guess I need to compare it with the original one, see what I did and then 'redo' the change after the upgrade?

Thanks for your help!

No, the ibulletin images directory should remain intact, run/install the upgrade (3.5.1) will pick up from where it left off, check the vbulletin upgrade instructions for more info on this.

You can revert the templates to the default if you wish, this will not harm the i-bulletin style, only a few <br /> tags will be removed and should look & function just the same

There are some good tuts out there on html, i think it's a simple tag, but thats not for me to solve as it's your own personal custom header...google is your friend! :)

Scrollbar is altered via the extra css definitions, look for the ".HTML {}" you'll see the codes, just a matter of altering the hex for your own colours!

i don't have any errors on that page, using 3.5.1 iB (plain) running IE - inlinemod is a css element (i think) which should have been loaded...not sure though, anyways, i cannot reproduce the error...

Thanks for creating the skin, I've modified it slightly for my forum but I could do with some help with the logo. How do i centre the logo and make it possible to have a larger logo, i.e 800 x 120 pixels ?

My skin http://www.throttlejockey.co.uk/forum/index.php?styleid=37

hope I'm noty upsetting anyone by altering your skin.

Try and use photoshop to adjust your logo, then check it's dimensions, then edit the header template to alter the logo dimensions (they should be there)

Apologies up front for not reading all 13 pages of this thread - so forgive me if this has been covered already.

First off, after using Vb for about a year now this is the first and only other skin I have on my site - so bravo!! Not only does it look professional, it gives visitors an alternative skin.

I have one request however...

Would you be able to add a different icon next to the post listing for posts you have replied to vs posts you haven't (as in the default skin)? I get a TON of new threads on my site and like to reply in most - if not all of them. Being able to look at a glance if I have replied makes this set of skins a bit challenging. I am hovering to see if I have posted, but a different graphic would be very appreciated.

Ok, maybe the icon graphic below should fit the bill...
Just upload to the ibulletin dir and overwrite the original.

cheers

Also, when posting a message, there is a grey box inside of the message box? It does not cause problems, but it looks wierd. Also, it confuses my users when they quoting a previous post. Can it be removed?

I don't know if you still need to correct this or not, but here's how to fix it:

Styles and Templates
Style Manager
I-Bulletin (or whatever you renamed the style)
All Style Options >> Go
Scroll down to the "WYSIWYG Editor" section (just less than halfway down the page).
Under "Extra CSS Attributes," Delete "border: 1px solid #A6A6A6;"
Click "Save CSS"

I hope this helps.

... and b6gm6n, thanks for a great style! I appreciate it!

In vBulletin 3.5.4 (using FireFox), the quick reply box has a narrow table in it by default and in order to get the same quick reply box as the standard theme, or this one, I have to press the expand button.

What's this about?

(thanks though)

Edit: This is only visible in FireFox, not in IE.

I believe you have to disable certain posting features, the WYSIWYG interface needs to be set to a standard level... its the rich text editor i think, but yes i know what you mean, it's a vB setting, check your ACP for message & posting interface options, cheers

There is no relation between how the editor works and this skin, i cannot code elements of this skin which would directly effect the functionality of the editor.

Firstly this error has nothing to do with my skin, second your original 'bug' also hasn't got anything to do with my skin... thus i conclude that you would be better off finding the correct information for your problems elsewhere... the second problems seems to be phrased based, check the forums for more info or check for hacks which can alter these things.

Please consider the following for version 2 of i-bulletin-

1. Make the polls a bit colorful :)
2. Make the 'stars' bit colorful too :)
3. Please use a little bit darker shades for buttons ..rest you know it all :D

Installed all colours - really is one of the nicest cleanest skins I've seen and fits well with my site.
I have one niggle though - when scrolling in Firefox, the screen stutters, kind of as if FFox is struggling to process something? IE is fine though.
Any ideas what this might be, or have you come across it before?
Quite willing to accept it's *my* settings of course - just windered if anyone had mentioned it and/or got a fix?

Dude, get 3.6 running asap and I will donate, I promise. This skin has been polled on my test forum as the best. I work for the biggest media company on the planet's record label department, and run a forum for one of their UK artists.
