I get this error also on 3.5.2, even with cURL enabled. My host directed me to this page (http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/CURL) to see "how they handle it".
Is there anything further I need to do to this hack to take advantage of cURL?
Same error as silurius (same host, too.)
cURL is enabled. In fact, it works fine with ArticleBot.

Until you (or WE) get an answer to this I found a solution: I made a new child forum in the MOD Area where only I have permissions. I get hit with the New Posts, but it doesn't show up in anyone else's listing.
Hope that at least helps a little. :)

This mod will help you filter which forums get searched for new posts:

What would work wonders for me is if this Hack could post all of the updates in One Post for each Feed. Or even in just one thread would be much better. ;)
Thanks Again for all your hard work ZT.

I'd like to suggest adding event feeds to this.
For example, I have a feed that is "Upcoming Events" for a training agency. What I'd like to do is rather than create a post on this is to create a calendar event.
The feed has an entry:

3/4/06

for single day events and an entry:

9/10/06-9/15/06

for multiday events.

I upgraded to 3.5.4 from 3.5.3 and neither version has worked with this extension, but did when I was running 3.5.2 and below just fine. I keep getting an "Invalid URL to RSS feed given" error.

So there is no answer to making URL's in the RSS posts actual links??
Also, is there any way to put in line breaks in after the title/URL/description?

Just put spaces in the "Thread Post RSS Construct" box between elements:
Mine looks like this:
{XML[title]}
}]Read More... ({XML[link)
{XML[description]}

Mine just makes a thread with the link to the source forum thread. If the source forum thread has additional posts after boing posted on my forum, the updated posts are not put on my forum. How can I make it do update the original threads? I have nearly 12000 threads and like 12200 posts.

How would this be edited so that it only posts A SINGLE latest news item in a RSS?
That would fix duplicates.... the way it works now it checks to see if the title= the last posted stored title. If it only checked the latest posted new and only posted 1 of them you would not got dups..
So.. anyone know how to only have it post 1??
'installed' Got it working perfectly on 3.5.4, nice job.
Got the occasional ? in place of the ' char, but I guess that's down
to the feed set as ISO and my vB is UTF-8. Otherwise, v nice.

In some wierd way it wont work properly.
I installed it and all seems ok. Got the new menu in Admincp and all.
Things get strange when I try to detect the feeds settings. I insert a link and my forum starts loading and loading and loading. After a couple of minutes my server times-out.
I tested this with the example BBC feed and some others but none seem to work.
Anyone have an explanation for this???
Board: vb 3.5.4
RSS hack: Inferno 1.6
All fresh installed and no other mods on it.
[edit]
Just tested some more and found something interesting.
My server is running WinXP Pro, PHP 4.4.2, MySQL 4.0.26 and Apache 1.3.35.
When I click the dtect button I get a PHP error on my servers monitor.
Hope someone can help me with this.

Hello,
I noticed there is a 1.6 with bug fixes so I downloaded and installed, but I'm still at 1.5. Looking at the product xml file it says 1.5 at the top. Is it possible 1.6 was released but the version not updated in the XML file? If there is a specific download I should be looking for attached to a post in one of the 35 pages please point out the page number. Thank you.

An excellent edition to my tools! //clicks Install//
A minor notes -
* In field feed_parser you are not escaping double quotes. Whenever someone puts a double quote in any of the RSS Setting, it gets blown away.
Wouldn't it be easier to break those fields out instead of using parsing?
* As earler mentioned a toggle to allow a specific feed to create a thread, or continue existing thread would be excellent.

Is this the only RSS Feed hack available for v3.5.4?
I happened to have the Articlebot installed but it never worked ever since I've installed it, but might be because it is compatible with only v.3.0.

What does it really matter, if you haven't tried it, why search for alternatives? :)
I use this Mod, and when you add in my Users can Post HTML Mod, it's perfect.
The coder for this hack is away from vBulletin.org for awhile, leaving users hanging with questions and/or problems so I'm a little hesitant to install it.
But if all users had success installing and working with this hack, it would be okay then.
But if there are no alternative and not will be one for a long time, I might as well uninstall the old Articlebot hack and try this one out.

A few questions. I added the add on to this:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=108377
Is there a way to either:
1. Turn off the auto posting or;
2. Have the post show up better?
In the Thread Post RSS Construct I am using XLM, but that doesn't show up well on my forum. The links are broken. What is the best way to use the mod and have the RSS feeds post well.

Since I can't get this to work, is there another mod that will do the same thin, or, if there a workaround or fix that some of you are using?

You need to change your cron job from checking the feed every minute, assuming that you are using the settings found in the setup instructions.
ACP > TASK MANAGER > Scheduled Task Manager
Edit RSS Feeds Update.
Change the minutes or hour. Depending on how you need it.

HI,
I love this already but I have a few formatting issues. First of all is there any way to ensure links are clickable and that they open in a seperate window, same as when a links is posted anywhere else?
EXAMPLE: http://www.productionforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=260
Secondly, I've got some formatting problems with some of the feeds coming through.
EXAMPLE:http://www.productionforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=182
Is there any way to tighten this up? Or will the feed providor have to sort it out?
Finally, I'm having to allow HTML in the forums I have the feeds in. Is there any way to limit it so only the account I'm using to post the feeds can use HTML?
Oh, another quick thing. Once I've clicked update feeds, it won't post the same messages again, even if I have deleted them. This makes it hard to test, is there a way round this?
Thank you in advance. :)

Have the RSS Feed results targeted to one forum, then have your news or custom pages look to that forum for the information.
I'm doing that here:

Not sure of the legality of it, be sure you are giving credit where credit is due for the content.
Are you having this problem in CMPS or in a regular vB forum? Post up your RSS Feed post format.

In looking at the actual feed, you can see that only one line is being "fed". As far as the Array problem, there's something wrong with the way the HTML is constructed (guessing)
Here's mine - and it works - maybe try this format?

3.6 has RSS feeds as a default feature. This modification uses the same tables as 3.6 and so will cause errors on upgrading to 3.6 unless you uninstall it first, and will not work due to the same tables being used.

My site, www.bleepingidiots.com, has CuteNews (news managment... RSS) on the front page. I also set it up so this vBulletin hack (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=94510) automatically posts the news feeds in the appropiate forum sections. (http://www.bleepingidiots.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=129)
For some reason when I try to update the feed using this vB hack it gives me this message:
While attempting to parse the document located at "http://www.bleepingidiots.com/cutenews/rss.php?category=8&number=999" the system encountered the following error:
Invalid URL To RSS Feed Given
Please check settings related to this issue.It was working beautifully for a week or two and then one day it didn't feel like working. Nothing on either side (CuteNews or vB) has changed so I'm baffled as to what caused this. I'm not sure where the blame lies so I'm posting this here as well as the CuteNews forums.
Any ideas? Thanks - Kevin

It was a great hack but I really don't understand why you guys keep trying to get it to work, unsupported as it is and with VB 3.6 having a much better RSS feed system built right in to it. What's the point? Just make sure you uninstall this hack first before you upgrade to 3.6.

The point for me is, that my current ISP does not support MySQL 4.0 or greater, so I cannot run vB 3.6.x at all. And I still think that there are many people out there that don?t run or don?t have MySQL 4.0 and so the feature from 3.6.x cannot be used nor is an upgrade possible.
If this hack is unsupported, then I respect that and I don?t bother to post in here again. But if it is unsupported, then why not deleting this entire thread or just close it with remarks that this hack IS unsupport? It just confuses other people if it is still possible to post in here and to ask questions.
just my 2 cents for it.
Thanks anyway.

I had this addon installed and then upgraded to 3.6.3
In version 3.6.3 there is also a database table called "rssfeed"
An upgrade to the new version the rssfeed table is overwritten, and you will get errors on the addon.
I rebuild the database table for this script and then did an uninstall of the product, then I rebuild the table that comes with VB 3.6.3
I think the uninstall of this addon was not successfull, the system is still sending me emails with database errors. And in the admin toolbar, this Inferno rss feed was not removed from the admin toolbar. The error :

Hi,
I am using RSS feed which is integrated in 3.6.4. I can post RSS feeds of other sites into specified forums in my test forum.
Though the posts are posted, I want to modify its content. Normally, the post ends with a link to its original place. How can I remove this clickable link and replace it with the full text of this thread such that my visitors won't leave my forum.
Thanks
David

Is there a way to post all rss feed from 1 rss feed to be posted inside 1 thread and have that thread be updated when rss feeds are updated?
instead of having each feed from that 1 feed be posted on seperate threads in a specific forum
thanks!

FWIW, I'm not sure about Inferno - pretty sure that's not an option. But I know that's one of the newest features of ArticleBot, available on vBmodder.com, because I asked for it and the gracious developer added it in.

Never mind. Figured out how to add the rssfeed table after uninstalling Inferno RSS in this thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=230693&highlight=rssfeed).
When i click control forum feed i get error:

thats because vb already has RSS functionality, this hack is out of date.
you can search any category for new posts seperately by adding &f=forumid
forumid being the number for example
www.site.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&f=10
So you can search seperate categories by adding the above links on your forums.. not sure if there is a hack somewhere for this.
I might have found a solution for the duplicate posts thing.. I replaced the post_thread() function with the following code:
function post_thread($title, $message, $feed)
{
global $vbulletin;
$getThread = $vbulletin->db->query("SELECT threadid FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX ."thread WHERE title = '" . mysql_real_escape_string($title) . "' AND forumid = '" . mysql_real_escape_string($feed['feed_forum']) . "'");
$ThreadNums = $vbulletin->db->num_rows($getThread);
if($ThreadNums < 1) {
$this->ItemsAdded++;
$newpost['title'] = $title;
$newpost['message'] = $message;
$smilie = true;
$foruminfo = fetch_foruminfo($feed['feed_forum']);
$ThreadDM =& datamanager_init('Thread_FirstPost', $vbulletin, ERRTYPE_ARRAY, 'threadpost');
$ThreadDM->set_info('forum', $foruminfo);
$ThreadDM->set_info('thread', $newpost);
$ThreadDM->setr('allowsmilie', $smilie);
$ThreadDM->setr('userid', $feed['feed_user']);
$ThreadDM->setr('title', $newpost['title']);
$ThreadDM->setr('pagetext', $newpost['message']);
$ThreadDM->setr('forumid', $feed['feed_forum']);
$ThreadDM->setr('dateline', $this->get_dateline());
$ThreadDM->set('visible', 1);
$ThreadDM->registry->options['floodchecktime'] = 0; // Disable flood check in memory...
$ThreadDM->pre_save();
if (sizeof($ThreadDM->errors) > 0)
{
$ThreadDM->errors = array();
}
$ThreadDM->save();
}
}
Please not that it only checks on the title.. so each post with the same title will be seen as a duplicate post and not be added to the forums. I think it works for me.. I tested it on some RSS feeds which are updated since the last cronjob and it added 1/3/4 items and not all 20 items which are on the list.
One little change made to this piece of code.. added 'mysql_real_escape_string() over the $title var.. to prevent quotes from splitting the query in two resulting in a mysql-error.

This doesn't work with 3.6.8 - is there an update or a similar mod for 3.6.x?
