View Full Version : Inferno Warning System v1.3
Zero Tolerance
08-04-2005, 10:00 PM
Well this was created purely for my own self and staff needs, but i'm sure you guys and gals will need a warning system to keep control over any member that doesn't wish to follow your rules.
The previews pretty much tell you all the features available, one that isn't shown is that the graphical representation of warnings will be displayed in a members profile, so that you may warn members via their profile or post(s).
v1.1 Updates:
- You can now enter a "Reason To Show User" input, this message is shown for users who are banned.
- Minor gramatical error in the ACP options.
v1.2 Updates:
- Missing template added (minor)
- WOL Fixed (minor)
- Unable to warn user via profile more than once if warn duplcation was not allowed (high)
- Ability to remove warnings
- ACP option to allow/disallow staff to remove warnings
- Warn log stretched page if it was large
1.3 Updates:
- Bug Fix: Warning points to be given were not consistant with maximum points allowed (the drop down menu went from 0 - 10 no matter what)
- Bug Fix: Those who cannot recieve PMs (either via turning it off themselves or due to other permissions) resulted in an error when you tried to warn them, this no longer happens but the PM will not send.
- Added new flexible warning expirations 'Hour' (Allows you to make the warnings expire in hours aswell as days/months)
- Added extensive flexible ban times (Now allowed to ban a user for x hours/days/months)
- Added post modifier notice (Allows the staff member to automatically add a notice to the top of the users post, allowing others to see that the post was warned)
Enjoy :)

Just one thing though, can you please make it so when the user's banned via the warning system, the Moderator can insert a reason as to why they're banned? I don't like how You have been banned for the following reason:
None

SMods/Admins can warn via profile, and mods of a forum can warn people in those forums (if they have made posts).
@ jluerken - I'm afraid it doesn't use a hierachical system, but you can insert protected usergroups, i usually enter all usergroup IDs which are mods/s.mods/admins, that way only staff can warn members.
@ hydrostatic - I'll get that in for v1.1 :)
@ kall - Sorry, i'll make sure that's fixed in v1.1, nothings perfect, right? :p

Thanks for the update ZT. There's just one thing. Why does the warning image indicator (in postbit) appears to all protected users? It is supposed to be hidden, there's no point to have it visible.
Does this checkbox serve a purpose .. if you click on the warn icon (+), you can issue a warning !?

GREAT hack, but I only encountered one problem:
To test it out, I added 6 points to my own warning level, and then went back in and removed 6. For some reason, it banned me--perhaps because "remove points" used cut-and-pasted code from "add points" that hasn't been reversed?
Besides that, I'm very pleased.

This is truely excellent - thank you - thank you!
Still running in RC1 with no issues.
My mods were wondering how hard would it be add a posting template at the bottom of the warning page.
This way we could all in one shot:
1. Add warning to system
2. Send PM
3. Post public warning (optional)

ZT: Is there a way to delete warnings? Sometimes my mods warn users by mistake :(
I second that motion :). I have this installed on my test board. Let me say I am so thriled this was released. This just leasons the complication of having to use user notes or a seperate bad post area. When 3.5 hits gold this is definatly my first thing to install. However yes, there should be an option like "Allow these groups to delete warnings against users". In my opinion that would make this a perfect package :).
Just a heads up though. I found that current members( before warning system installation) have the abiliy to edit their own level. There should be a way to prevent this.;)

I already have 3.5 running on my live boards. I think RCs are trustworthy enough. I just need ZT to upgrade this hack so we can delete warnings. I really don't need something as complicated as the AWS. This is simple and good enough to use.
Also, ZT, the template for viewing warning logs are a little off. When a moderator enters a longer log note, it goes too much off to the side. I'll show you a screenshot.
EDIT: Attaching Screenshot

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. My fault :D. That's what I get for late night posting.
Now, normal members such as those in the registered usergroup are not permitted to raise or lower their warning points. However, members registered prior to the implementation of this plugin seem to have the ability to find one of their posts or profile and raise and lower their own warning percentage even though they are not in a staff group. Even though it would be very easy to find out (after they get into trouble again ;)) it is still a bit annoying to have his accrue.

Hmm... I have one: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=91369 and that's an external script to read PMs.
Yes I'm running RC2.
EDIT: Also, I found that this only happens with one user. It doesn't happen with any other users. And when I try to warn him (even decrease warning levels), he gets banned.
EDIT 2: Ok I've pretty much narrowed it down to that it only happens when somebody gets the full 10 warning points and are getting banned. It still bans them and all, but the error shows up.

It's happening because you try to send them a PM? If the PM datamanager has been changed it's likely for errors to occur.
Ask the author if that script changes the PM datamanager in anyway.

Well I tried uninstalling that hack and it still doesn't work... As long as I try to send a PM via the IWS it still shows that message.
Well, I did install RPG Inferno and Inferno Quiz. Those two hacks sends PMs to users. But I doubt those two would have any problems with this hack.
EDIT: It works when the user hasn't reached the max warning level. It doesn't work when the user has reached all 10 warning points and I'm trying to send a PM. Possibly because the user's banned and you can't send PMs to a banned user.
EDIT 2: Ok I made sure that that's why ^. I did some testing on the test board.
a). If a user has not reached the maximum warning level the PM sends fine. But if he has, then it won't send.
b). This problem only occurs when users are banned. Users in the Registered Users group don't have this problem.
For a quick fix, all you gotta do is either don't send a PM to people who reached their max. warning level or give the Banned group some PM storage space.
However, I think that if somebody reached the max level, the Mods either shouldn't be able to send a PM to the user or the PM sends anyway regardless of PM box space. My mods aren't very good at PHP and they don't know whats wrong... So they kept clicking "Warn" again and again and messed up that user's account :(.

Well it would seem rather innapropriate to send a PM to a banned user, there is a field to fill in for the reason, the user will see that reason along with the banned message if they are banned by the system.
Edit: Try setting the banned usergroup to use the PM system, might hide the error then.

Can this system be used as a reputation system?
For example, a user gives another user a reputation (warning indeed) with a 1 point per message and every user can use this ability. Positive warnings will be logged as positive reputations and negatives as negatives, when a user has a (for example) -20 warning points he/she gets banned. Is it possible to limit every warnings with 1 point?
Is this modification possible? I tried it with another warning system on vB 3.0.x series but it didn't work...

Does this count as a plu-gin as far as vb.com is concerned? Or will installing this void out any warranty or support for vb?

It is a plugin
It's not a plugin, it's a product, if you try to install it as a plugin, you get nothing but a nameless, blank plugin in your Plugin Manager.

I'm wondering; would it be possible to change this plugin a little so it's possible to also ban people while they don't get their final warning yet? For some things I'd like to ban people but not as "final warning" - just a few days.

No, they can't be used together. AWS is for vB3.0.X while the Inferno Warning System is for vB3.5.

I create special forums for users and make them a moderator of it so they can have some fun, but having Inferno Warning System installed allows them to warn members that post in their forums, I don't want this to happen. On my forums max warn level is 5 and default bann period is 7 days.
What's happening after user is banned for 7 days and he came back after that period. What's his warning level then? 80%? or maybe 0%? or 100% but not banned?

I was a fan of this until I found that the user can see their own warning level (I thought this basically enhanced the purpose of having user notes - I wasn't aware the user could see it - oops.) I was also unable to find the user log notes, once added. (where did they go to?)

You can change the options so that users cannot see there own warning level. vBulletin Options -> Inferno Warning System Options

The system uses the default vb banning system, after the 7 days is up, the user will be returned to the forum with access, but the warning level will remain as before. You can always delete these or specify a life span for them (expiry date).

Zero Tolerance, it's a wonderfull hack but I'm still curious if you might be planning to also allow people to ban members directly by adding a warning (IPB-like) so adding a warning *could* also ban a user directly; that saves doing basically the same thing in both the warn panel and the mod/admincp.

from what i have seen that is not possible, its just, admins can see/do all, same with supermods, and then its whatever mod of that forum

i wonder, like how the mods cant see anyones warning in a forum they are not a mod in, as admin, why do i see my own warning, or other ppl that cant be warned (due to protected usergroup) since they are protected why show the warning for them? is that cuz it would be a extra process on each page load?

I have an issue and have read all the posts in this thread but my issue is not reported or mentioned anywhere. The issue is when viewing the warning log for a particular user the log is expanding beyond the normal browser window size. Ie i have to scroll horizontally to view all of the warning log. It does not seem to 'word wrap' for a lack of a better way of describing it. Is there something im missing or is it something missing in the code for this product? If an example is needed i can post the image into this thread.

Modify your Warn Display [Post Bit] hook plugin, and replace with the following code:
global $vbulletin;
if ($post['postid'] && (can_moderate($forum['forumid']) || ($vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] == $post['userid'] && $vbulletin->options['warn_allow_view'] && $post['inferno_warn_level'])))
{
require_once(DIR . '/includes/functions_warning.php');
$show['warning'] = true;
$post['warning'] = construct_warning_display($post, can_moderate($forum['forumid']));
}
Basically the only addition is the && $post['inferno_warn_level'] check. So all your moderators and such will still see them for everyone.

Our community wants to setup this script in a pretty simple format where each warning is worth 1 point and they are banned after the 5th warning for 180 days. Is there a way to set this up so that some of the values are placed in hidden fields for mods so that when warnings are given no values are edited in a manner inconsitent with our policies...
Attached is what I want to accomplish. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as using conditionals to accomplish this. Also, I think these options would make a great addition to an already awesome script (recommendation for future feature).

Go to your vBulletin Options -> Inferno Warning Options -> Max Warning Level -> Change this value to 1
Edit the template warn_user and remove everything. Use the text file I uploaded below and paste it into warn_user. That should do what you're asking :)

Thank you very much for that! It is nearly perfect. The only issue is if I set the Max Warn Level to 1 then the also means after the first strike they are banned. I want the Max Warn Level to be 5 but each warning to default to 1. I think from what you have post the only difference would be to replace that one row with a hidden form tag with the one value set. Do you know what that tag should look like?

Try this... edit the warn_user template and remove $AdM... then, in its place, put in:

Ok... out of what I can translate which is not much at all because I am only just learning German in my free time they are poking fun a bit and the famous word crap is used a bit :D.
Anyway though while I'm posting here, and chance of an upgrade of some sort? Or at least editing the modification preferences so it says 3.5 instead of 3.5 beta 2:D

Hey Zero is there a way I can make it where if someone is warned they get put into a different usergroup that makes them loose site permissions. Like gallery/arcade/journal maybe? that would be a really cool Idea.

you want to open the postings that are warned from within the warning log and not the thread, in which the warned posting is?
look in template warn_log_row for:
<td style="white-space:nowrap;"><if condition="$Log[w_post] > 0"><a href="showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]p=$Log[w_post]">$vbphrase[review_post]</a><else />N/A</if></td>
replace it with:
<td style="white-space:nowrap;"><if condition="$Log[w_post] > 0"><a href="showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]p=$Log[w_post]#post$Log[w_post]" target="new">$vbphrase[review_post]</a><else />N/A</if></td>
if you wanna have it openend in a new window showing the posting in the thread it was done.
replace it with:
<td style="white-space:nowrap;"><if condition="$Log[w_post] > 0"><a href="showpost.php?$session[sessionurl]p=$Log[w_post]" target="new">$vbphrase[review_post]</a><else />N/A</if></td>
if you wanna have it openend in a new window showing only the posting.
remove target="new" if you want to open in the same window as the warning logs.

No I want a warning log in the admin CP so the admins can look to see who warned who and why in one big box like the ban list in the admin CP

Ya that would help, so we can see which mods warned who.
looks quite nice, even though I didn't install yet....
What I'd really like to see is an option to scan registrations for doubles.
There was that Hack for vB2, called 'Who might this new user be' which checked several registration infos against the user database. One of the features was the ability to check the passwords - I think most of the double registrations we caught back there in vB2 were because of similar passwords - and it calculated a percentage rate of how suspect this new registration was.
As this hack seems to be a bit alike the old functionality would just fit greatly into it. So you could a) have the current features of this hack and b) check if banned users are registering again to continue their bad behaviour.
That would keep lots of them out - talking experienced

Hi there - I have installed and it works great. I did notice however, that if the user has PM turned off, the following error is generated when you 'Warn'
Fatal error: Unable to proceed with save while $errors array is not empty in class vB_DataManager_PM in \includes\class_dm.php on line 758
What would be wonderful, of course, is to have the system email the user instead :)
Works great otherwise - thanks for releasing this.

First (and only) warning I gave last night (about 10 hours ago) I set it to expire in 30 days. I checked his warning log this morning and I see:
Expires: 1 Minute Ago, 02:21 AM <--- The same time the warning was issued.
Any idea on the problem?

great mod :D
it would be sweet if the next version or so had an option to auto move a user to a limited usergroup at say a warning level of 85-90% or so (user definable of course).
The auto-ban could then kick in when they get another warning afterwards :)

The problem only accurs when i try warning a person through they use profile. Also the problem is that it bans the users even if i add only 1 warning.

Yup, that's something i'd like to be able to do too.
It's always been down to admins on my site to hand out discipline, I don't want other groups to be able to do that.

thats a cool hack.. i was using it at 3,5,0 rc 3 but now i upgraded to 3,5,1 and not sure if i can use it again ...
there is some issues about it also :
1-) It gives mods to ban users by giving warning...
2-) It gives mods to ban mods :)
3-) If we insert mods in protected usergroup we cant warn mods :D
4-) If you deecide do decrease warning level, it bans the user but you can prevent it by writing 0 instead of 8 at banning option
5-)i couldnt find the changing ban day option...
except these it is a great hack...

This mod definetly needs some kind of Admin CP log to keep track of warned users.
This mod's buggy as hell for something that won hotm :ermm:
I got most of the issues sorted out.
One thing I can't figure out is how to NOT get the warning bar to display on mods and admins (since they can't warn each other anyways).

is there a way to remove the warning cell from the protected users info in postbit?
I'm also wondering where to set the duration of the ban after the user reaches the maximum warnings!

I'd like to set it up so that only Super Admins and Admins can use the Ban option - not Moderators. Anyone know how I can do this? Some of my Mods have a twitchy trigger finger :)
