AWS Version 3.4.15 is released.

This version introduces a new feature, the Notes.

In the past, as an admin, I've noticed that I wanted a mechanism, which would allow me to add notes for a particular user. For example, in my site, there is a very thin-skinned used, who does not take jokes very well, even though he does joke with other members. I wanted a mechanism which would allow me to enter a note for that user, which will be shown to be every time I see a post by that user, so that I treat him very formally.

Well, this is now part of AWS. After you install the upgrade, you will notice that there is a new link/button next to the "Warn XYZ" and "View XYZ'z Warnings", saying "Add Note for XYZ". This takes you to a data entry screen, where you may define if that note is private (will be shown only to you) or not (will be shown to everyone who can see the "Warn XYZ" link, i.e. management). You may also define, if this note is post-specific (it will be shown only when you are viewing that post or when other management people view that post) or if it is general and will be shown in every post made by user XYZ.

Of course, the author of a Note has also the ability to delete a note.

I hope you like the new feature.

Does this require an update right away, or a reccomended update?

It's not a bug fix releases, so there is no rush. If you want to use the new functionality, then you should upgrade.

OK thanks. I lost FTP access temporarily so I needed to ask or get Mythotical to upgrade it ASAP.

so what would this be used for ??? a friendly warning maybe?

would that note just show on the offending post?

Well, let's take an example.

In my site, there is a member who is kind of touchy. He jokes with other members, but when I joke with him, he gets offended. It happened once, and then it happened again. So, I used that, to add a note for this member, saying "Touchy. Always treat him very formally. NO JOKES". I made the note private and non-post specific. So now, whenever I see a post from this member, I get reminded that I do not want to joke with him.

The notes are for the admin team (admins/mods/smods) to see, not the members. They are used to remind you things about members.

I hope this clarifies the issue.
