removing alt1/2 from forumdisplay?

From my limited understanding of forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost, I need to find this elusive "$childforumbits" template in order to strip the alt1/alt2 colours from it.

All I want is a black background for my forum listings, but without altering alt1/alt2 as I used to have, or changing the Body colours.

Can anyone point me in the right direction??
