Best program for compressing images?

Hey,

I made a new header last weekend, but now I have implemented it in my vb it loads verry slow.

I used photoshop with imageready to compress the images, but I was wondering if there are better programs to do this.

Is it the images that are loading slow? Does everything else on that page load fast?

And maybe a link so I can see for myself might help too.
