Is this possible? Let me explain what I want to do.

I have set up four advertising forums. What I would like to do is remove the following things from the forum display page for each of those forums:
thread icons in the left column
thread starter
replies
views
last post
New Thread button
Forum Rules
thread icons legend

So on the forum display the table would be reduced to one column

On the showthread page I'd like the author column removed as well as the Forum Rules box and all the buttons for the author of the post except for the edit button, and the post reply button too. I'd like the new thread button to not show either but can't figure out how I'd start a new thread if necessary without that button.

Now in my mind I would do this through the Styles part of the admin cp, modifying the templates as necessary, saving the style, uploading it, and then selecting that new style as the one to be used in the forum I want it for. But when I download a copy of the default style I find it's a php file. I don't know php so does this mean I can't do this? or am I approaching it the wrong way?

Create A New Template Set and Style Set. Then just work on the forumdisplay part of the templates and copy the same style settings into that style set. Once thats done just set the style to that specific forum.

Thats the only way I can think of it.

Its the only way you can do it unless you hack your files.

Please take a look at what I've done: http://216.92.20.151/discussions/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=124

I'm really new at this and not finding my way around the templates very easily. I've mostly been deleting and checking to see what happens. :)

I'd like to get rid of the
MotheringDotCommune Forums > Mothering Marketplace
line at the top and replace it with a logo. How do I go about that?

What templates would I mod to get rid of the columns with the thread and post numbers and last post date "Never"? Also the wording "Forum Rules:"

Also what template enlarges and changes the font type of the forum names - in this case The Diaper Store, Clothing, etc?

To remove the navbar, go to the navbar template and remove everything in it. This affects forumhome, forumdisplay and showthread (Maybe thread/reply not sure) Make sure it's just for that template set. The way you have been doing it. :)

Thanks Tony! I've almost got it looking the way I want it to.

Here's another and I hope I can explain this clearly. I have a group of forums within a category and I want only one thread in each of these forums. So rather than be taken to the threads list page I want to be able to click on the forum, from the main page or from within the category forums list page, and be taken directly to the one thread in that board. How can I set this up?

Digging up a post from the past here.... I am looking to do a similar thing of removing some of the postbit stuff completly from one specific forum but I dont fully understand what exactly is explained above or what to be removing for my desired results.

The end result I would like to try is to have the whole Author column removed as well as the row with the online, PM, email, etc, button are located. (I'll add a screenshot at the end of the post here). Is creating a whole new template set needed or can I modify a copy of the default style and upload it as a 2nd style to apply to the one forum?

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Chris

In vBulletin two you must create anthor style via the control panel. Once you to that you can force that style to be used in the forum you want the style to show in via the forum settings.

If you dont want to go through that tourble you can hack the files (in which case you need to go to vBulletin.org) or you can upgrade to vBulletin 3, it is possible to do it from the templates in version 3.

Hi Brad, thank you for responding. Yes, I am on vB2.3 sorry I forgot to mention that, and dont plan on moving to vb3 until maybe later in the year.

I dont mind creating another style from the current one being used, but I dont know what I want to look for in it to remove/modify to get the result. I downloaded the one the forum uses now and was going to modify that and then upload it as a 2nd style to apply to the one forum. Basicly, with myself not being savy enough yet with this kind of mod, what more in depth, do I need to do to get there I guess is what I need to know now.

Thanks again!

Chris

Hi, you will need to modify the postbit and showthread templates. I dont have vB 2 installed anywhere right now so I can't give you code blocks, if you know html you should be able to do it yourself with ease :)
