Since I cant think of the code right now, I would suggest working with Mashby's hack(here (http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mods/showthread.php?s=&threadid=495&highlight=%2Aadd%2A+AND+%2Acolumn%2A))

Edit: Also, vBT's front page is worked on using php portal(I think)

vBPortal I believe. There's also vBIndex which is also good. They can both be found at www.vbulletin.org ;).
