Where do i start

I edit html but i cant find where i can edit the pages for this **** VB crap.. lol

goto the admin CP, and go down to templates and click modify.....

Admin control panel > scroll down to where it say templates and choose modify > then there will be a big list of templates and you just got to get to know what each one does and play around with stuff and you'll soon know how to change stuff and where just from lookinf at it's position on the page.

If your going to edit templates for a big hack back them up !! That way if something goes wrong you can just paste the back up and everything will be normal again.

I just wanted to put it in here cause it said temp mods. .. what files do i edit for the design aspect?

Do you mean like the color of the forum and background ect ect? Well you dont need to edit templates to change that you only need to goto admin CP scroll down and look styles edit then change the color and size ect ect then save.

The entire design of vB is based on a series of templates. Some are easy to understand, others take a while to figure out where they fit in. Most people start with either the "forumhome" template, or the "postbit" template. The forumhome is self explanatory, and the postbit is what makes up each post in a thread.

Keep in mind some of the more complex templates, usually the ones that comprise of a category, are comprised of multiple templates.

The best thing is it's not done through files from the FTP. Uploading all the time can get frustrating.

sweet. how are all these things packaged into a .style file?...

where should i start? i want to modify the index page background and all that with custom graphix i made. how can i get into the .style file to see how it is written..

Well, you can download a style by going to:
AdminCP-> Scroll down to "Styles"->Click on Download/Upload-> Then choose the style you want to download, and click download.

You can open up the .style file in Wordpad or any other text editor.
