--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a slew of hacks I want to install on my forums and need to know if it is possible for my sites owner to allow me remote access into the .php files so I can install the hacks myself instead of requiring him to make them for me.

Is there a setting I can have him change to allow me access to the .php files? or something else that can be done?

Or am I simply missing it in my admin panel?

The only thing I see even close to what I'm looking to do is under the styles and template area but those just allow me to change the looks of the forum...

I'm planning on things such as the banner ads, and some of the other hacks that are on the vbull.org site...

Or and I stuck with having my owner of the site doing the updates?

Thanks for the help...

How did you upload your board software? How do you upload your Mainpage?

I expect you have FTP access to your host. Just download the php-file with FTP, edit it how you need, and reupload the edited version. Always make sure to keep backups.

PS While you are at it, i suggest you upgrade to the latest secure version 3.0.7 of vB.

I'm an admin of the forum...

the owner is on his own server and he installed everything got a basic forum started and it's been played with pretty much what came with it...

now it needs more fine tuning with hacks and such...

Doesn't the 3.0.7 cost to download? Just wondering... or is it a free thing for people who already have the software?

So I can pass onto the owner if there will be a cost...

I've never worked with the software... will I need to download something to allow me to download the .php files from the server?

I know a whole bunch of newbee questions...

Any help would be greatly appriciated as the owner said he though I had access to all of these things already... and doesn't know how to get me the access... he thought I could access it via the admin panel... but I don't see how...

Thanks in advance...

That depends on if your license is still valid. An owned license includes free updates for a year after the purchase. After that, access to upgrades can be renewed for a yearly fee of US$ 30

You need ftp access to your area of the server in order to access the php files.

....and only the owner can give you the ftp user/pass.

One more note on licenses: only the license owner (the one that bought vB) has access to download new versions.

Ahh well a second one: If you have a leased license, then you buy the right for both upgrades and [/b] the use of[/b] vB for 1 year. After this year you must renew or stop using the software.
