- v3 Articles Of "John"
> Unsupported, buggy, a security problem, out of date.

- vB Journal Of "AN-net"
> I don't see a real reason to make-do with a journal system in place of an article system when you have two great ones available.

- cinq's vbArticles Of "Cinq".
- Geek Article System Of "The Geek".
> Fully supported, fully up to date, very well made and robust.
> vBArticles is more of a "standalone system".
> Geek Articles are entered as threads into your database - so you have all the benifits of thread management etc. along with many article features.

I clicked Geek Articles, out of preference and the points above.

If you ask me, cinq's is the best, because it runs on a seporate table.

i voted for cings because of the table and also i dont think an's journal system is an article hack they are different and i use both

Different strokes for different folks ;)

Why have more than 1 kind of Ford? (heck - why have any now I think of it!) - because the different systems work for different needs.

Personally - I havent used any other but me own (though I did test v3articles to write the import script).
The biggest difference between Cinq's version and mine is our implementation. His is to create an article system that stood alone but linked into vb3. Mine was to create a system that was integrated so that it ran totally off vB3 and so it would integrate with the forums (like searching and such).

I think Cinq has done a great job and Im pretty chuffed with the job I have done. Once again I think it just comes down to the implimentation and how you want to use the system.

I'd like to vote the original (John's) as its the only one which allows captions against images. The fact you can't edit these after upload, nor re-order them, means I can't use it though.

As soon as one of the other systems allows this, that'll be the one i use!

Of those choices listed, I'd have to go with Nail Geek's system. I prefer any type of articles be searchable by the user when they're using the vB search functions so by using a forum to drive the articles solves that problem nicely.

Both Geeks and cinq's systems offer a lot of features and should do the job for most people but my deciding factor went with the searchability of the articles in Geek's method.

Note: If you're vBa CMPS user there is also another option available for you.... the CMPS Articles Module by Tom M (not sure if he gave it actual name or not :p ). It's a pretty basic system but if somebody is using CMPS and needs a quick & dirty articles system that is also based upon the forums then it's worth looking into.

How SEO friendly are these? I really want to write some well crafted and thought out articles for my site, but I also want them to come up on the search engine's if possible. In the world of SEO as you know, writing and submitting articles is highly recommended. Vb3 is already pretty good at getting messages spidered and I'm guessing either of these would be the same.

Any thoughts or comments on this? Much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Axi, I am fairly new to VB and PHP...I was looking at your site because I am tying to decide whether to go with Geek's or Cing's article modules. Of course I got sidetracked... I noticed on your portal page (the news item of Beastclub Radio) has a graphic appearing at the botton...How did you get rid of the Attachement line box around this?

Do you find that your members newbie ones for instance have trouble making, finding, or editing the articles?

Thanks in advance and sorry I went off topic.

My fav is The Geek's article hack.

I do have vbjournal installed on my forum, but I use it as a blog system not as an article system.

I used to have v3articles but my members were not very comfortable with it... they complained of not very spider-friendly urls, of a confusing UI, bugs etc.... in the end they would post their articles in the forum as threads instead of using v3articles. Personally, I didn't think v3articles was too bad, but hey.. it just didn't suit my forum.

I tried Cing's on my test forum, and found it was too fussy for my liking. Yes it was feature rich, but I didn't need all those features and from experience with vBarticles I didn't think a standalone was best.

Geek's article hack was super popular with my forum members.... they loved it and I loved it... it's simple, it does the job and having the articles as threads within the forum makes life so much easier. It also benefits from the mod_rewrite I have for my forum in that articles too get a spider-friendly and user-friendly url. And that installer is just the coolest. :D

cinq's vbArticles Of "Cinq".

Why?

Becoz besides being solid in design (i am not a programmer - but have not had any major installation problems).. it looks visually appealing..
and another important feature is that it stands out seperately from vB using only its database.

To me visual appeal matters more than features and ease of use (for admins).

the only drawback i find - which might be big one.. to some - it might not be SEO friendly. (cinq are u reading this man!!...)

my 2 cents.

what is missing in the hack of Cinq is the possibility of seeing in the postbit which and how much article user A creates.

hi dude, what do you mean how did i get rid of the attachment line box? you mean like submitted by, date and the links to the thread?

also as for the articles my memberss do not have trouble finding the articles, as for editing and placing articles i have that unallowed as the article manager is used for my sponsor (PHILIPS) to promote there products and allow members to respond to the articles regarding the products.

geeks article system is very easy to install and use. looks of its style is above average and its stability is pretty good.

Hi Axi...I am a dudette! LOL LOL

I figured out the attachment border and was able to remove it. I am still trying to figure out how some boards have graphics in the top left or right of the text in the news item ... all my graphics end up at the bottom.

Thanks for the input on the user friendly part of the articles....I run a city community site and well many of our 40k community are computer challenged LOL so I try and make things as easy as possible for them.
