Any thoughts on when we might see a version 2.4 that would fix the stuttering bug and fix the usergroup permissions on private chat rooms?

1. The stuttering "bug" is not actually a bug, it's an issue with Internet Explorer
2. Fix usergroup perms on prviate chat rooms?
3. My time is greatly limited, i havn't started it yet, but when i do it will only take me a few hours to complete.

1. Bug or not I think a large enough % of people browsing the internet use IE to warrant a work around a bug with IE. This bug causes my users to favor an ancient version of Jabber Chat over this software.

2. Restricting private chat rooms to those in secondary usergroups does not work. I want to reserve this privledge to paying members.

3. I understand, but will buy if we can get these fixed.

People have to understand that if they want to use IE, they have to use a proper sequence in order to avoid the problem. And the sequence is, you always click in the Post Message box, before starting typing. If you do not do that, and if your browser at that moment is fetching the messages, whatever you type goes to the server. To stop this, you have to click in the message box again.

I do not think there is anything ZT can do about it. It's a bug in the way Internet Explorer handles things, not in this hack. To prove it, we tested the same thing with IE 5.0. That version does not have the problem.

My 2 Eurocents only.

Take a look at this chatroom (http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/jabchat/login.cgi) if you will. It is very old has has worked with IE 5.0 and up flawlessly. Only problem is it lacks username verification with VB.

My point is a chat room can be written that doesn't have the stuttering bug with IE 6.0.

Nobody says it can't be created. There is one issue you are forgetting here, ZT is trying his best to make such a program, which will integrate with vBulletin. There are other hacks, which also allow you to have a chatroom in your forums, even with vBulletin, but they do not integrate. What I mean with 'integrate':

In my site, I am running a heavily patched version of vBChat, which:

- Makes sure that only members of my forums are allowed to log in the chat.
- Catches censored words used by the members in their posts and issues a warning to the member who used these words.
- Allows my moderators to issue warnings to members who misbehave in the chat.
- Allows my members to post pictures, clickable links etc, using the standard bbcodes.
- Allowed me to arrange my chat window, in the way I wanted it (columns, fields etc).
- Allow members to check how many users are in chat and who these users are, without logging in the chat.
- Allow me to keep logs of the chat messages, the warned messages etc.
- Allow me to alter the program in any way I like, to make it more suitable to my forums and my site.

Now, if you can find a chat room which allows all the above, and does not have the IE problem, I'll be more than happy to switch over to that one. I've tried Flashchat (flashy, but you can't change one thing in it, let alone customize it to suite your needs, and the support sucks). I've tried another one, it also leaves a lot to be desired.

What I am trying to say, is that this hack offers some unique advantages to both your users and the admin team. It is up to you to judge if these advantages are what you want or not. If not, for sure there are other solutions, but if you want the integration with vB and the ability to customize, then this is the one.

I am not going to bang on ZT's door to fix an issue of someone else. I am sure he could follow the same path with other programmers and come up with a Flash-based chat, or something. Would that give us the same benefits? I sincerely doubt it.

Also, we have to remember that all these hacks are here for us to enjoy, because someone spend hours of his free time to create them. We are the ones who decide if we like them (and use them) or not, based on our own criteria. We cannot force any coder to change his hack, if he does not want too (for his own reasons), because we do not pay for them. They are free, and it is the coder's good will that he support them and maintains the code. Try convincing Microsoft, that their product has a bug, and make them fix it.

Hi John,

I just purchased vBulletin for a new board and have been looking for these features for chat. I've searched and read lots of posts here but haven't yet found mods for these features. If they are here, I'd appreciate a pointer to specific messages or suggestions for search. If not, would you be willing to share yours?

I can provide you with my own version of AWS, which is my Warning System, responsible for catching censored words, allow moderators to issue warnings etc. as well as my own version of vBChat.

However please be advised that this may be prohibitive for any future upgrades of vBChat. I most probably will adapt any new vBChat version to my requirements, but I just cannot guarantee it. I am pretty happy with what we have now, so unless ZT can come up with some features that really make the program better, I am not planning to change it. It works just fine as it is.

However, the integration with AWS will always be there, it's a simple issue.

Let me know what you want.

Rgds

I would love to have your versions of AWS and vBChat! I really appreciate your sharing it and if any additional features are added that you happen to adapt, that would be more icing on the cake. :) Thanks so much!

And thanks to ZT for creating such a great program that's so adaptable!

If you haven't install AWS yet, please download it now. I'll put together the instructions for how to integrate it with vBChat when you tell me you are ready.

Please use either the PM system here, or email me, so as not to hijack this thread.
