I don't think this has been done before, but I've got this idea, and I'd like to see if it's workable...

I'd like to find a way to preserve archives by transferring sections of it to a stand-alone CD that could be popped into a drive and surfed and searched through as though the user was on the site. I could then offer the archives to community members for their own files as sort of site memorabilia.

Is there a way to do this? It would be great to preserve these posts before they get pruned, and given back to the community for posterity...

That would need a lot of coding i think. Since the archive is also pulled from the DB, you will need to create some kind of static (non-database) version of all pages. It would also be impossible to check for permissions then.

So it's pretty much impossible? :(

Old Idea.....

Anyway, always possible, I believe there are some programs that would let you do it, But it would be quite abit of time and effort.

If vbulletin Archives was modified to include links to attachments, WebWhacker or a similar program could create the files for burning to CD.
