I've been wondering how to make hacks for a while now, so i decided to start learning.

Im good with html and i know just a little php. Im trying to do a hack right now that puts a small box on the front page with text sponsors links, and has like a little bidding spot to have your link there, and also a spot where you can see all the links that are there and how many times they have been cliked.

If you are intersted in helping i'd more then appreciate it, and i am looking forward to one day being a new coder on vbulletin.

Good for you!

You might find some usefull information in the Modifications Hints and Tips forum. Specifically, you'll probably need the information in this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=62164

Let us now how it goes and feel free to ask if you have any questions :)

You can look how other hacks save and edit things in the admin cp. You can look at the code in my Text Replacement Links hack and might find some useful info.

oh ok...

I've got to say that from a coding point of view, you're better off with vB3 (in my opinion), but there'll always be people that are happy about vB2 modifications, so go for it! :)

Take it from me, once you learn the basics, vB3 is much easier to hack.

to hack? or to make hacks?

Same thing in the context of this board ;)

And they are right, vB3 is alot easier to code off when you get used to it and its better to learn from as there is more notation and the code is more clearly marked :)

yea, it probably is, but that admin panel gives me a HUGE headache, its kind of to loud for me, and the lay out is just not me, i have 2 custon skins and alot of ahcks on my board, i would hate to have to have done all that and waisted all that money on skins for nothing, dont get me wrong vb3 is great for alot of people, but its just not ME

The inital upgrade will seem like a loss, but once you get your vB3 running as good as your vB2 was you will relize it is worth it. The admin panel might seem heavy at first, but once you work with it awhile you learn that it is not much harder then the one in vB2.

A good project for a rainy day ;)....

As for your hacking, I wish you luck, and encourge you to ask questions in this forum so the public may benifit :)
