Force to consult the DNS for the MX record

I am using a third party email service which isn't hosted on my server. So I am having some problems with emailing using vBulletin and another .php script. Basically since the scripts are ran on my server it doesn't consult the DNS for the MX record. Therefore, when an email @MySite.com is sent from within the site nothing happens. Is there any way to force the script to consult the DNS for the MX record?
