i've got a page in the
root/other/
directory, and my forums are in the
root/forums/
directory, but i've noticed that my online.php doesn't show anything outside of the forums directory as what i set it to show when i edit my online.php?

I assume you have required global.php in all these php files?

require('./global.php');

IIRC vB2 didn't save the full path to files so if you had two with the same name you couldn't distingish between them.
