I propably have a noob question here :)
Currently my MYSQL forum database is 50 mb large.
Will the site be just as fast if it's, let's say : 100 mb?
I am mass pruning old posts to keep the database small, but i am wondering if that is necessary at all? Because i have the idea that, the smaller the database the faster the page will load. Or is that complete nonsens?

of course the db size and speed belong together.
but depending on the server you won't see such a big difference.
vb.org db is about 0.5 GB and i'd say it's fast :)

Thanks Xenon, in my case the server where my site is hosted is a bit slow. So i will have to make sure it won't get too large like your forum here ;-)
Just out of curiosity: How large is the attachment table from vbulltin.org?

hehe, there are a few methods to make the vb boards quicker (by adding indexes...)
it's about 0.3GB :)

Woohaaa! Amazing!
Hey hold on, stop the press! ;)
You are saying that there are ways to make the boards more quicker, by adding indexes? Could you please explain that? Most of the hacks here that improve the forum speed i have already installed. And that's including your Optimizing forumhome hack :)
But i am always eager to know ways to make it faster. So please share that info if you want.
Cheers!

there's a link in Erwins signature iirc.
But you should remember: adding indexes can make the board faster, but it also makes the space used by DB bigger..

Thanks Xenon. but i checked Erwin's posts, but i think he removed the link. Any clue? Because i am willing to take my chances :)
