I had a *very* important PM attachment. I don't suppose the old PM attachments are stored somewhere? :(

PM attachment, not post attachment. I was receiving it as well, not sending it.

I know, but I was suggesting that they might be connected.

Actually, I'm not sure whether PM attachments are a standard feature in vB3...this might be the problem. What I'm really hoping is that one of the wonderful administrators here will have a database backup or some other way of retrieving my file. It's very important. But thanks for your help Gary.

This is a very good point. I had some attachments in there which were important too.

The attachments are in the database. But PM attachments are not standard in vB3.

we'll write a hack to be able to post pm attachments again :)

but for old attachments: the pm system has been rewritten in vb3 and the old table has been dropped iirc, so we've no way of finding out which attachmentids were belonging to which pm's

No backups even?

you have to ask chris schreiber, he does the backups i think ;)

we do have all old attachments i think, just not which pm's they are belonging to..

If I send Chris the PM id, would he be able to find it? Or did the PM ID's change?

Also, how do I get in contact with Chris?

Thanks.

Also, you guys might want to consider making some kind of temporary PM attachment downloader using the table from the backup. The user could input the PM ID and, for security reasons, something like the subject of the PM, and then download the file. Sounds pretty easy once you get the database backup.

OK, it appears I'm being ignored. Time for plan b.

The problem is that in the past, attachments were linked to a postid or pmid. Now in vB3, attachments have their own attachmentid.

There is no way of knowing which attachment belongs to which pmid now, since during the upgrade, the database structure was modified.

Erwin, I understand the problem, but what I think you should do for those who have lost PM attachments is create some kind of tacky temporary standalone script (you know, one of those ten-minute jobs) that will retrieve our attachments from the backup (re-create the table with the same data but with a different name so it doesn't conflict with vB3's tables?) and allow us to download them.

I mean, I didn't even know you guys were going to upgrade until it happened... Otherwise I would have grabbed it real quick... https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/

Bad idea? If so, then--again--how can I get in contact with Chris Schreiber?

I'm not trying to be difficult or pushy, but I really do need that file desperately...

If the file was so important you should not have kept it in a mysql database of another forum site owned by other people who may purge or change their database at anytime without a need to ask your permission. :)

Keep back ups!

you can contact chris schreiber per mail at vb.com, but i don't know if he'll react, he seems to be a busy bee...

Yes, I know. I thought I had it downloaded, but I didn't need it (realize I didn't have it) until after your upgrade. OK, I learned my lesson about being more careful. I still need the file.

I'll try sending an email to Chris. I still think there should be some kind of PM attachment retrieval script set up here temporarily, as I've said before. I'll even code it if you guys will insert the backed up table into your database--shouldn't take but a few minutes, and I'm sure it will help out a lot of people (me and Dean at the very least).

Thanks guys.
