It's a problem with your host that usually happens when MySQL is going or has gone down.

Is it your server or shared? If it's the latter then ask your host to fix it.
Otherwise, please search and you should find a sufficient answer.

Just restart mysql, you may have to reboot the server if that doesn't fix it. Nothing to worry about too much though, nothing is "broken" as such (I don't imagine).
edit: It only happens when you get a heavy load? Check out vbulletin.com for some huge guides on fine tuning your server to run at its best. How many sites are on the server? and is it relativly new?
mysql is dying on my forum server, what tweaks can i do to mysql to fix it??

Edit your my.conf and httpd.conf files to tweak your server for mysql and php optimization. Head over to vB.com's Server Configuration forum for more advice - search around there for some tips.
Got a new error
