What's the deal with this?

Do we have to re purchase something?

Is it supposed to have something hella new/great/different?

I'm hella curious and anxious to see stuff on it...

vb.com is using vB3 now, so you can see how it is.

The screenshots are beautifull...wow.

Now, this looks like a huge change, what will it invole to upgrade? Is this going to be an entirely new install and board or is this a typical upgrade, I am so scared, I have never done an upgrade, I started at 2.2.6 and have been scared because I don't want to redo the hacks.

What is the easiest, and best way to upgrade and keep your hacks?

Lots of questions! HELP! :) haha.

you will overwrite alot of your hacks because you are updating code. If you want to be safe make sure you have copies of all your hacks. it's really not a difficult process, and I am in no way a programmer. the fear is more in the fact you havent done it. if you saw it done, or gave it a shot you would be stunned exactly how easy it really is.

the VBulletin programmers understand that most people dont have a friggin clue about that stuff so they do all the hard work for you. :)

you eventually wont have much of a choice but to upgrade Flup. Once VBulletin 3 goes final they will stop supporting VBulletin 2 shortly thereafter.

They will not stop supporting it, they will stop releasing new versions, they will always support vb2.x.x on there forums

The support of vb2 will end in the future, when the majority of support questions is for vb3 (so most use vb3)

but there will be as much hacks as there were for vb2, so you surely will upgrade in the nearer futur or in the further...

yeah i was pretty sure that they stopped supporting it at some point in the future. After DrkFusion responded I went and checked with someone on the VBulletin team and they confirmed they would stop supporting it.

for those scared of upgrading, give it a try yourself.

the vb license agreement says you can have another vb forum installed on your server, just as long as the general public (that is, your visitors) cannot access it.If you have a valid license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.that's what i've done. i'm installing all my hacks on my testvb forums, then i'll convert them over to my regular forums once bugs are stomped out.

If they stop supporting, it seems like a good way to loose couple of customers don't you think? Thats why I assumed they would support it.

No, wouldn't happen Arunan.
The stop would not be immediatelly, but dynamically. Just as it was when the big upgrade from vb1 to vb2 was coming...

Ah, so people will gradually upgrade to vB3, even the people who say they are going to stay on vB2.2.9 when that happens they will start to focus on vB3 right?

:) I think I get it now

I am going to upgrade in a later version of 3, maybe on 3.2.
I think there are a lot of new bugs on 3.0 and dont want to upgrade every week... ;)

Well I will be testing on my local server, I will first get it the way I want before taking it public on my site.

vBulletin 2 will be supported at least until vB3 is in its final release. After that we may choose to keep it going for another couple of months depending on how many people are still using it,.
