having issues like a mofo

guys i am SOOO new to this stuff....my buddy is asking me for help on installing his vBB board, and to be honest i have NO idea...i tried following the instructions on the manual..but i guess i am just plain dumbin.....

using php webhosting as a host, mysql enabled...why cant it find the install.php file???it gives me a 404 file not found error....

what dir do i install it into?...my root dir right?..it has the following flders

cgibin
www
logs
mail dir

now ive set up YaBB (irty word , sorry ..hehe) w no probs ..and i HEARD this was EASIER to set up than freakin yAbb...so what is my malfuntion all??
