It went to the top rather than the bottom for me. As nice as it is, it's rather...inconvienent to be at the top. Why is it at the top, when it said it'd be at the bottom?

FF,

This may have been asked already, but how do I get the reply box to show up at the bottom instead of the top? I would like it to be like on here at the bottom. Going through pages and pages and couldn't find this question, so I thought I would ask.

BTW - Very nice - I have seen this used at some of the other boards I visit and it is very conveint - I am sure my users will like this one.

Thanks

Some people were asking for instructions on how to place an image in the background of the quick-reply box.... You just add a line in the showthread_replybox style in the textarea for "message" like so:

<td><textarea name="message" style=" color: #CCCCCC;background-color: #021124; background-image: url('http://www.csfgames.com/forum/images/quick_rep_final.gif'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attachment: fixed;" rows="7" cols="$textareacols" wrap="virtual" tabindex="1"></textarea>

Notice how i did change the background color, and the text color also. Keep in mind if you do this, and you change your txt color to fit the background image... Make sure you change the background color also, because in Netscape the background image doesn't show up. And if your colors don't work together, you could have a white text on a white background, and people couldn't see their text! :)

You can see an example of this on my forum here:

http://www.csfgames.com/forum

Enjoy! Hope you guys are enjoying the script as much as me!

I have installed Firefly's Quick Reply Box hack - excellent hack.

In addition, I have enabled in-line thread-rating (by copying the contents of $newreply_ratethread and pasting them into $showthread_replybox) so that a thread can be rated as it is being replied to via the Quick Reply Box.

This works fine for registered users. The average rating is amended accordingly.

However, when an unregistered user rates a thread via the QRB there is no change to the average rating (rating by unreg members cast via the standard 'rate this thread' box work ok and the average is amended - so it doesn't look like it's a permissions problem).

I've checked all user/forum permissions, and all is as it should be - although I'm sure that it must have something to do with permissions.

I'm at a loss to find out why registered members can rate a thread while replying via the QRB, and unregistered members cannot.

Any hints? Thanks.

It is at the top of the thread because you didnt put it down far enough. There are two instances of <!-- first unread and next/prev -->. Look for the one near the bottom.

I searched further back in the thread and read this about your problem.

Nombsaid this:
Either turn on file_uploads on your webserver or remove the enctype from the <form> tag to avoid this.

P.S. I fixed my MYSQL errors. It had to do with another hack when I set my NIX to anything but 0.

I've just installed the upgrade to 2.3.0

I've noticed that in this hack, the first insturctions says:

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;
}

That last part:

if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;
}

IS not in the Showthread.php

so...BEFORE I make a mistake...I figured I would ask....do I just ignore it?? OR do I do something else???

ONE GOOD thing came from this...I found the following:

1. The SEARCH BOX at the bottom works REALLY GOOD....
2. MOST all question related to this HACK are discussed about 10 times each in this thread.
3. IT's the best thing ever invented...well next to Fried Chicken.
4. There are a TON of modifications to this HACK that I did not know about.....
5. Looks like I'm going to have to read the whole 70 pages.

I don't know what my problem is. I totally uninstalled this hack and then went back and reinstalled it. I took my file off of the server again just to see if it overwrote the previous file and it did. I have done everything that I can think of to do and it still doesn't work. In fact I can't get my other hacks to work since I undated to VB 2.3.0 This is very odd. If I ever figure it out I will post it, even if it is embarrasing. But if anyone has a hint, I would love to hear it. My quick reply box isn't even showing up.

Come on, guys, the answer has been in the thread for a while now. The search box at the bottom really works. ;)

Just add this where you want it in the replybox:

<tr>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780" valign="top"><normalfont><b>Attach file:</b></normalfont><br>
<smallfont>Maximum size: $maxattachsize bytes</smallfont></td>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780" valign="top"><smallfont><input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="$maxattachsize_temp">
<input type="file" class="bginput" name="attachment"><br>
Valid file extensions: $attachextensions</smallfont></td>
</tr></table>

I tried fixing it up a bit to make it look better.....

Put:

<table width="100%">
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780" valign="top"><normalfont><b>Attach file:</b></normalfont><br>
<smallfont>Maximum size: $maxattachsize bytes</smallfont>
</td>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780" valign="top"><smallfont>
<input type="hidden" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE" value="$maxattachsize_temp">
<input type="file" class="" name="attachment">
<br>
Valid file extensions: $attachextensions</smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>

Below:

<tr valign="top">
<td>
<textarea name="message" rows="7" cols="$textareacols" wrap="virtual" tabindex="1"></textarea><br>
<smallfont><a href="javascript:checklength(document.vbform);">[check message length]</a></smallfont></td>

After reading ALL 60 pages, <YAWN> I still cant find the answer im looking for ... Some say it works on 2.3.0 some say 2.3.3 ...

I am running v2.3 #3 and it is NOT working.

Installed the code, exactly as stated in the 1ST thread of this god forsakenly long thread. The original hack. No add ons, no modifications, just straight up, give me a box.

Thru the hoops and the hurdles, I get NO error messages, yet I also get NO quick reply box. Not on top, on bottom, not in the middle, no where.

Any help/assistance in this matter would be appreciated!!

Edit: After pulling hair out, I found the problem. Seems the ftp server wasnt overwriting the old file. Check that! Also, in the template 'showthread' the orginal hack gives old code (obvious for an older version)...

Look for THIS in v2.3 #3

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
<table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="95%" align="center">
<tr>
<td><smallfont>$pagenav&nbsp;</smallfont></td>
<td align="right"><smallfont>

<img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/next.gif" alt="" border="0">
</smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
$replybox

^^^ Add the reply box as stated above.

Thanks for the great hack. Im going to pluck my eyes out and soak them now. Ay carumba!

replace with ( i think):

$replybox
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
<table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="95%" align="center">
<tr>
<td><smallfont>$pagenav&nbsp;</smallfont></td>
<td align="right"><smallfont>

It's off, I can't believe it took me this long to install this. I never really saw the point, but it's really nice. thanks firefly.

Anyway, I wanted some smilies but hated the idea of loading the 2 vbcode js files just for smile insertion. It seemed like alot to add to every single page. plus, I didn't like how the smile box looked. I did it a little differently and thought maybe you guys would want it.

If you want to add smilies, you don't need to edit any files, just change your showthread_replybox template to this one. It doesn't require any js files at all. I already added the necessary js. (very short) there isn't any getclickysmiles needed to be added either. I manually put a small collection of smiles in the template. They are the default smiles that came with vb. You could always edit the template to change the smiles. Instead of them being in a box to the side, they are lined up under the message box next to the check message legth link.

:)

I have had this installed for quite a while and well thanks, the hack rocks.

I have a question now and Ive read 20 pages of this thread without an answer. I want to add a close post after quick reply option which I saw this posted earlier.

**

Add <input type="checkbox" name="closethread" value="yes"> to the box, then if you check that box the thread will be closed.
To only show this to mods requires more hacking, so take a look at the code for that hack and apply it here.

Can anyone tell me how to only apply this to mods, s mods, and admins?

1. In showthread.php find this bit of code:
// ##################################################
if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {

}
That doesnt come up in the new showthread file.

IIRC they removed something to do with page numbers. I am guessing If you just search for those 3 top lines, and follow the instructions as normal, it'll work fine.

First of all I run boards at version 2.3.0. I have [AddOn] Useful Additions For Quickreply (and normal reply page) -- https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47918 installed. My problem is when the double posting is prevented via the Doublepost Guard -- http://www.vbulletin.org/hacks/index.php?action=showhack&threadid=40145 and merges the posts, it doesn't allow for the additions (except sticky) included in the Useful Additions For Quickreply to update. I was wondering if someone could take a look at the Useful Addition for Quickreply hack and help me out by adding some queries in the Double Posting Hack to update the quickreply options. I've looked through the files and I haven't been able to figure it out. Any help is appreciated.

The hack won't install for version 2.3.2

I can find these lines of code:

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

But the ones after this I can't:

if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;
}

They apparantly don't exist in showthread.php for vbulletin 2.3.2 :(

JTMON - Add this line:
$clickysmilies = getclickysmilies();
to showthread.php right after this:
$textareacols = gettextareawidth();
then use $clickysmilies in the showthread_quickreply template to add the box with the smilies in it, but you will also need to add these two lines:
<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode.js"></script>
<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode_language.js"></script>
to the template right after the <form> tag. That should work. :)

Wow this is even handier than I thought... :D

I've done that. When i click on a smile it sends me back to the top of the page and it does not insert it into the box?

OK - it was easier than I thought.

Just add

} elseif ($bbuserinfo['usergroupid']=="1") {
$replybox='';
in the list of conditionals to not show the reply box to guests.

Now the only thing I can't figure out is how to only show the reply box if:
1.) it is the last page of a multipage thread, or
2.) it is a single page thread.

I can use
} elseif ($pagenumber!="1") {
$replybox='';

for example to not show it on page 1 but to show it on page 2.

I see above there is this conditional statement:
if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {

Which I thought I would be able to easily adapt, but I can't seem to make it work.

Can anyone give me a hand?

Great ! That one solved my problems with not registred users. :)

I dunno I followed the instructions to the letter and the box wont show up in the threads :ermm:

Getting the box to show is a template mod, so maybe you inserted the right variable in the wrong template, or in the middle of a <!-- comment --> or the wrong variable.

It should be inserted in the showthread template, reading something like:

<!-- START SHOWREPLYBOX HACK -->
$replybox
<!-- END SHOW REPLYBOX HACK -->

And located, in my forum immediately after

<!-- first unread and next/prev -->

If it isn't coming up for you, you can try replacing the word $replybox with a tag line like:

GOSH DARN I CAN'T TELL WHY THIS BOX DOESN'T SHOW

And if you don't see that, well you are tweaking the wrong template or template set.

If you do see it, maybe you didn't create the showthread_replybox template properly or have a typo in one of the names somewhere.

Good luck!

Matt

I understand your frustration, but I still think if you are interested in debugging this, you should go about it systematically, rather than throw up your hands and say it doesn't work. Of course you could always use another hack if that is preferable.

If you do want to figure out what's wrong...

First step would be to plug a text placeholder into the showthreads template, as recommended earlier, and make sure you can see it where you want the replybox to appear.

Next step, if that works okay is to see if it can pull in that $replybox template. If not there is a template problem, or maybe your version of vB is overwriting the $replybox somehow.

I think they had a three or four guys checking the Hubble mirror specs before it went up, too. They were probably rocket scientists transferred over from Space Shuttle O-ring duty.

I finally got this to work with 2.3.2 . The problem is that the instructions for showthread.php are wrong, or at least they were for my site.

show_nopermission();
}

*** REPLACE WITH ******

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and $thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid']) {
show_nopermission();
}

*** FIND ***

if ($noshutdownfunc) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'");
} else {
$shutdownqueries[]="UPDATE LOW_PRIORITY thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'";
}

*** REPLACE WITH ***

if (($bbuserinfo['userid']!=$thread['postuserid']) and (!$getperms['canviewothers'] or !$getperms['canreplyothers'])) {
$replybox='';
} elseif (!$getperms['canview'] or (!$getperms['canreplyown'] and $bbuserinfo['userid']==$thread['postuserid'])) {
$replybox='';
} elseif (!$thread['open'] and !ismoderator($thread['forumid'],'canopenclose')) {

and then it works. In the instructions they have the top two finds as one. Problem is there is a bunch of code between them.

the problem is this line:
if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

is found twice in showthread.php

the second instance of this line in showthread has this line:

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

if ($noshutdownfunc) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'");
} else {
$shutdownqueries[]="UPDATE LOW_PRIORITY thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'";
}

so the instruction code is correct... there should be no code between them... and there should be only one instance of this code in showthread.php

The vB 2.3.2 quickreplybox_v11.txt download from post #1099 produces a slight
JavaScript error. The attached has a fix.

Also, if you want to get this:

[check message length] [ ] Subscribe to Thread? [ ] Use Signature? Go

to appear below the vB 2.3.2 Quick Reply box, it is also included in the attached.

What do you see when you view the HTML source - where the replybox is supposed to be on the showthread.php page? Also, just in case, the replybox only shows when you are logged into your board.

$shutdownqueries[]="UPDATE LOW_PRIORITY thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'";

I have read the entire thread now.. and have also searched it. I am trying desperately to add $vbcode_buttons to my QR box... but no matter where I put it or how I add it, nothing shows up.

I looked at another template and confirmed that $vbcode_buttons is working and showing the correct thing on other templates. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Ok i'm making this post to link to in the first post of this thread as it's such a frequently asked question.

To add smilies to your quick reply box do the following:
.................................................. ....................................

In showthread.php find:

$textareacols = gettextareawidth();

Right below it add:

$clickysmilies = getclickysmilies();

Then in your 'showthread_replybox' template add the following right at the top of the template:

<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode.js"></script>
<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode_language.js"></script>

Then find again in your 'showthread_replybox' template:

<normalfont><b>Your Reply:</b></normalfont>

Replace it with:

<normalfont><b>Your Reply:</b></normalfont><br />$clickysmilies

Yep it was easy to do just that it wasn't made clear at any point during the thread along with some other issues. This being such a popular hack I thought it was time to make it clear for new users in the first post what to do about a few issues :)

Add the quick reply variable to the bottom of the showthread template, to the second instance of where you're supposed to put it.

same thing happened to me YOU inserted the $reply (variable) in the first occurence of the template not the second (the example in this thread happens TWICE in the template) so....check the template and youll see that the template has the same code at the beginig and att the end,,,DO IT AT THE END then It will appear at he bottom... (the Qreply box)

I don't know how this could be related but I have noticed that with the last 2-3 versions of 2.x.x , after I apply the Quick Reply hack, I have problems with the "Go to first unread post".

If I remember well the probs started after 2.3.0.
Clicking on the "got to first unread post" does not always get you to the earliest unread post, but it leads to 2-3 later "new" posts.

This has been confirmed by several members of my forums.
I tried to see what happens and removed the QR hack. Now the "go to first unread post" seems to work ok (as far as I have tested it).

Not sure if there is any "conflict" but I have also read references to this prob and its connection with the Quick Reply hack at the VBulletin.com board. Meaning that there are other members who have said that they had the prob after they applied the hack.

Anyone else with the same prob?

thanx

...NOTE: For the vB 2.3.2 version please see this post....

Thanks! For a really quick (no bells) quick reply box (which I sorely needed) for 2.3.2

It is working flawlessly.

If I can't find the second part in showthread what do I replace?

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;

The same here, I'm using 2.3.2.. in showthread.php there is:

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

$bbcodeon=iif($forum[allowbbcode],$ontext,$offtext);
$imgcodeon=iif($forum[allowimages],$ontext,$offtext);
$htmlcodeon=iif($forum[allowhtml],$ontext,$offtext);
$smilieson=iif($forum[allowsmilies],$ontext,$offtext);

and another line:

if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}

if ($noshutdownfunc) {
$DB_site->query("UPDATE thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'");
} else {
$shutdownqueries[]="UPDATE LOW_PRIORITY thread SET views=views+1 WHERE threadid='$threadid'";
}

So what should I replace the code given on quickreply.txt with under showthread.php?

Anyone that got it going under 2.3.2 can help?

Thanks

Chen has a link to the modifications you have to make if you're running 2.3.2 in the first post of this thread I believe.

As stated in prvious page find the second instance of

$textareacols = gettextareawidth();

then add:

$clickysmilies = getclickysmilies();

The smilies will then show on 2.3.2.

um , no , no it won't , that's why we're asking for someone that has it running on a 2.3.2 board to lend a hand and tell how it's done.

Does any one know what i have to adjust in the showthread.php to get my vB buttons and smilies and such to appear on a quick reply box? (for v2.3.2)

myst1333

nvmd, i figured it out, btw hexonxonx's hack for smiles works except he changed the smily variable to $clickysmiles thats why none of yours work and the line for vB buttons (if anyone wants to know) is:

$vbcode_buttons = getcodebuttons();

and can be placed right after the smiles code

Well, I thought the obvious was obvious enough, but since you're so desperate for someone to reply back, I'll see if this helps :):

Did you try the installation instructions for vB 2.3.2?

X-Sector
10-31-2003, 12:28 AM
Yup, I looked at the instructions very carefully and installed it but the box doesn't show up.

I used a good php editor like dreamweaver mx to edit the codes.

I am having the problem of it not showing up as well. I am running 2.3.2 and used the instructions for it. I even added text where the box is supposed to be and the text shows up. I had PM'd GaryW for some help over a month ago and never got a reply :-( I thought it would be a little easier to get some help.
