It's in this thread. Read the thread, or search this thread for "smilie panel" or "smilies".

I've had this hack installed for a while now, and absolutely love it. Can't do without it! :)
Doing some research, so bare with me. Trying to find out why when I view a thread, the counter in increased by 2. So a thread with 100 views will now show 102 after I've read it. 2 views for the price of 1!
The function appears to be coming from the showthread.php file. Over at .com, someone said to check templates. The only difference in the showthread template is my replybox. Is there something in the hack that could be causing 2 reads instead of 1?

Hi,
I tried adding $logincode in the showthread_replybox template. Although the User Name & Password fields show up find, but when I enter a user name and password and click reply it doesn't get posted. It says "you're not logged in". How can I fix this?

Ok, I installed this on 2.2.9 (not sure if its compatible) and I had to estimate where to place the code (since the the second string is no longer after the first string in showthread.php) and nothing showed up. You can look for yourself at http://sixflagsnews.com/forums . Nothing at the bottom of the thread.

Hmm, it seems more people have experienced the "No thread specified" error, but so far I've seen only one person solve it (without sharing the solution with the rest).
Thus: I hereby beg for that one person (or any other knowledgable person) to explain what I need to do to get the quick reply box working (again).
It used to work on my previous server with exactly the same files and database, so I'm 100% sure it involves apache/php settings...

Yay, I figured it out:
In your php.ini file, make sure "file_uploads" is set to "On"
(Restart apache after changing settings in php.ini)

You have to place $replybox further down in the showthread template. If you look closer, there are two similar sections of code in the showthread template. It confused me too the first time I installed this one :)

Is there anyway to make this hack give points when a user posts using it? cause the way I have it installed by default, a user does not get any points.
I want it so the user replying gets points, im sure it cant be that hard, i just dont know too much about PHP.

I found a bug. I tested it on my board, and on vb.org as well. I'm not too sure if it can be even called a bug, but it's there. If your board's the type where you get your posters posting one smilie posts a lot (like mine), this bug will manifest itself.
To reproduce this:
In any thread, post a reply.
Go back to the thread again, post the exact same reply (under the same userlogin).
The QRB will give the usual redirect and when you go back to the thread, it takes you back to the first reply. And the new "duplicate" one you've posted won't be posted.
It only works under the same userlogin. If a different user posts the same reply, it'll work as expected.
I know it's not really an often seen thing where you get the same user posting exactly the same thing in the same thread. But for stuff like giant joke threads (let's post as much jokes as we can in one thread sorrta thread), when the reply's generally a :LOL: or something to that effect, it'll manifest itself.
Boofo
12-23-2002, 06:28 AM
It's supposed to work that way. That avoids a lot of senseless spamming in the threads. the same person shouldn't be replying with the same exact message to a post one right after the other. I guess I don't get where you think this is a bug. :)
Richard
12-23-2002, 06:31 AM
So it's a feature? Hehe.
Oh, no. I didn't mean it as in right after the other. It shows up even after a few posts down.
It's not really a problem for me, I was just pointing it out, that's all.
Boofo
12-23-2002, 06:53 AM
Ok, I think I see what you are saying now. I tested it on my board. You are right, if you post the same exact message in a thread, it will only show the first instance of it. That is the way it should be. Otherwise you would have spamming galore in a thread. I personally don't want to see a thread with 100 posts from the same person with the same exact thing myself. :)
Richard
12-23-2002, 12:17 PM
Hmm. Is there anyway I can remove this "feature" then? I didn't see any instance (with my limited knowledge of php) that checks for something like that.
----
Added: Oh, wait. This is interesting. I just posted to the same test thread a good few hours after that. It does allow for the duplicate post. Hmm... interesting. I think it's probably due to the value you set in the admin panel for time between posts.
----
Added again: Scratch what I said about the bug, heh. It's default behaviour in vBulletin. Even if you use the normal Post button, it shows the same behaviour as well.

If you are getting the QRB on top instead of bottom then listen up :)
it seems that there are 2 places where the code is place, you must put it on the second :)
This is in regards to adding smilies to the qrbox...
Now, the things that it says earlier in the thread, found here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?postid=216685#post216685, that are asked for, don't even exist on my template! No idea how, lol, but in my showthread box I do not have the code listed he said should be there:
$textareacols = gettextareawidth();
So I couldn't put this code after it:
$clickysmilies = getclickysmilies();
Also, he goes on about "showthread_quickreply" I don't even have that template...
Now, the thing is, if I don't have this stuff then how the heck do I have the quick reply, lol. I just want to add my smilies, everything else is there except that!
Here is a screenshot of my qrbox...

This hack will add a quick replying box at the bottom of all threads, only if the user has permission to reply, so when you need to reply to something real quickly you don't need to click the Post Reply button and wait for the page to load.
Instructions are in the attached .txt file, and if you want a demo... just look below. :D

Sorry if someone already asked this, but do I have to make any changes to the .php files to get Quick Reply working with another style? I just installed a new style earlier and I went and added the "showthread_replybox" as instructed. Are there any other steps I need to take?
Thanks.

After reading ALL 60 pages, <YAWN> I still cant find the answer im looking for ... Some say it works on 2.3.0 some say 2.3.3 ...
I am running v2.3 #3 and it is NOT working.
Installed the code, exactly as stated in the 1ST thread of this god forsakenly long thread. The original hack. No add ons, no modifications, just straight up, give me a box.
Thru the hoops and the hurdles, I get NO error messages, yet I also get NO quick reply box. Not on top, on bottom, not in the middle, no where.
Any help/assistance in this matter would be appreciated!!
Edit: After pulling hair out, I found the problem. Seems the ftp server wasnt overwriting the old file. Check that! Also, in the template 'showthread' the orginal hack gives old code (obvious for an older version)...
Look for THIS in v2.3 #3

My Quick reply box appears at the Top and also at the bottom of the threads.
How do i make it so it just appears at the bottom?
Cheers
Paul Are you sure you didn't add the $replybox variable more than once to the 'showthread' template?

i've run into a strange problem... since adding the replybox, i am unable to go to any thread that continues past 1 page to the more than one page. clicking on the 2 page, or next page button reloads the first page....?Are you sure you made the correct alterations to 'showthread.php'? The last line of that involves the page navigation.if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;

I've got a mother of a problem.
When I have a stuck thread and use the quick reply, it makes that thread not stuck anymore.
Anybody know how to fix this?
UPDATE: Oh yeah, it also unlocks threads that are locked.

I have one of my forums excluded from default autoparsing. Can anyone tell me how I can also apply this exclusion to the quickreply box? It seems to ignore my hack, which is this.
Replace this in newthread.php and newreply.php
if (!isset($parseurl)) {
$parseurlchecked="CHECKED";
}
With this:
if ((!isset($parseurl)) && ($foruminfo[forumid]!=22)) {
$parseurlchecked="CHECKED";
} else {
$parseurlchecked = '';
}
It's pretty slick, except for the quickreply. I assume it's because of this line?
<input type="hidden" name="parseurl" value="yes">
[edit] Nope, actually, I just tried setting it to no, and it still parsed.
But if I remove that line, it stops parsing globally. Hmmmm

Does this hack require the file_upload option on in the server's php.ini to be turned on? My host for my forums has the file_upload option in the server's php.ini turned off.
Will the signature be added when you make a quick reply? I note that on www.worldzonesupport.com the signature is not being added with a quick reply.

I tried using the smilie box with this and didn't like the way it affected the display of the QRB or how it took longer to load the page.
To solve this problem and still enable the use of smilies, I just added a link similar to the "get more" in the normal reply.
If anybody is interested, in the showthread_replybox template replace:
<td bgcolor="{ secondaltcolor}" valign="top" nowrap><normalfont><b>Your Reply:</b></normalfont></td>
with:
<td bgcolor="{ secondaltcolor}" valign="top" nowrap><normalfont><b>Your Reply:</b><br><br>[<a href="javascript:opensmiliewindow(240,280,'')">Get Smilies</a>]</normalfont></td>
I'm not gonna read through all the pages, but in my forums i keep getting this error in 2.3.0 (Both of my forums get it)
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare stripslashesarray() (previously declared in /home/*******/public_html/talk/global.php:31)

I think I have it for you guys, heres what worked for ME at least.
1:
I DOWNLOADED showthread.php and edited it manually for step 1. Had to search partial lines, but found it.
2:
I created a new template in control panel for step 2.
3:
In control panel I opened showthread and placed the line where I show you as an example below:
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
<table cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr>
<td><smallfont>$pagenav </smallfont></td>
<td align="right"><smallfont>
<img src="images/prev.gif" alt="" border="0">
<a href="showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&threadid=$threadid&goto=nextoldest">Last Thread</a>
<a href="showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&threadid=$threadid&goto=nextnewest">Next Thread</a>
<img src="images/next.gif" alt="" border="0">

</tr>
</table>
<!-- first unread and next/prev -->
$replybox
<!-- /spacer -->
</td><td width="10"><img width="10" height="1" src="images/space.gif" alt=""></td></tr></table>
<!-- /spacer -->
Hope that helps you guys, it confused me. I am using 2.30 final.

I've installed this on every version since 2.1, and I've never had any problem. Read the instructions more carefully if it's not working. I'm not trying to be an arse, but this is an easy hack. Hell, even I did it back when I knew nothing about installing hacks, so it can't be that tough. ;)

It was an easy hack, but I missed one thing , many times instructions arent always real clear whether to hack files or via control panel, especially to newer hackers. My previous hacking, for example, was with UBB, this isnt the same. Frankly, I fail to see how it helps for people to reply to say they did it, with so many people saying that cant. Only seems to make threads longer and harder for people to read through.

It's impossible to help anyone unless they have a clue what went wrong, or can at least tell us what kind of problem they're having. I mean, if they just say, "It doesn't work", there isn't anything anyone can say or do, really. I've been there myself a few times. It can be frustrating. :ermm: Basically, we just wanted to assure you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with this hack. It does indeed work perfectly.

Also, it said to find:

show_nopermission();
}
if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;
}
and replace it with text but in showthread.php
if (!$getperms['canviewothers'] and ($thread['postuserid']!=$bbuserinfo['userid'] or $bbuserinfo['userid']==0)) {
show_nopermission();
}
----These two are seperated by a bunch of code...----
if ((!isset($pagenumber) or $pagenumber==0) and $pagenumber!="lastpage") {
$pagenumber=1;
}
Hope im not making some mistake

It does work in 2.30-- should work on all 2.X.X forums
the <table> things should be the template not the file

Find this code:
<td bgcolor="{secondaltcolor}">
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr valign="top">
<td><textarea name="message" rows="18" cols="66" wrap="virtual" tabindex="1" style="background-image: url('images/head/tmr.gif'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attachment: fixed;" class="quick"></textarea><br>
<smallfont><a href="javascript:checklength(document.vbform);">[check message length]</a></smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
Replace it with this code:
<td bgcolor="{secondaltcolor}" align="center" valign="middle">
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">
<tr valign="top">
<td><textarea name="message" rows="18" cols="66" wrap="virtual" tabindex="1" style="background-image: url('images/head/tmr.gif'); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attachment: fixed;" class="quick"></textarea><br>
<smallfont><a href="javascript:checklength(document.vbform);">[check message length]</a></smallfont></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>

Either turn on file_uploads on your webserver or remove the enctype from the <form> tag to avoid this.

Another Quick Question...
How can I add the link to open the smilie page to right NEXT to the page which indicates the length? Ideas. I tried copying the vbcode_smilies_getmore... didn't work...
All I want is the LINK not the Box which comes in newreply... ?? Ideas?

This:
javascript:opensmiliewindow
should be
javascript: opensmiliewindow
without the space and it should all be one line. The code gets parsed here for some reason.

Try adding this:
<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode.js"></script>
<script language="Javascript" src="vbcode_language.js"></script>
after this:
<input type="hidden" name="rating" value="0">
or whatever the last hidden input tag you have is.
