integrating external user tables to vB

I currently have a member site which has its own sign up and login page. I would like to add vB functionality to this site.
[list=1] One concern is that I would like like to "import" my user information to vB table structure and when they login to my site they are logged into the vB component of my site. Are there any technical details for the vB mysql database available so that i can integrate both signup forms. I'm not sure of all the fields in the vB database that need to be changed. [/list=1]

Is there any documentation on this or does anyone have any experience doing this?
