Verify user accepts PMs before sending

Hi,

Don't know about you, but on my BB one of the most annoying issues has always been the case where you write a long PM, hit 'send' only to get the error message "user X's box is full and he cannot accept pms now" or "user X selected not to receive PMs or isn't allowed to". Well great, now you tell me! :D

Have no fear, a hack is here: a simple button that allows you to verify a user accepts PMs before you actually go about filling in the message area.

(This is especially helpful if you are using no-cache headers in private.php or in general, because hitting 'back' on the browser in those cases doesn't help - your message will have been lost.)

The hack is very simple and should be quite easy to install. The instructions are enclosed in the txt attachment.

I'm a novice coder but usually can copy and paste well. When I installed this hack, to test I PM'd myself. With my username in Recipient box, pressed verify and got the invalid user error. Any ideas? I went over everything again before posting this. Thanks in advance.

when I write "bira" in the To field and then click "verify" I get the message that bira accepts PMs and there's no problem.

I can't honestly figure out why you have that problem.

I hate to admit this but on every hack except one my problem was user error. I'll try this one again from the beginning. More than likely I performed a step wrong or left something out. Thanks.

Could this be expanded so that it displays that message when a person tries to PM someone who has them ignored? I have someone on my ignore list who keeps PMing me, and I never see them cause he's ignored, but he's obviously not getting any message that says that.

Now i am guessing it is from when i edited functions.php

FOUND A BUG!

Create a user with the char & in the name, and try to verify it. It gives "invalid recipient", even if the user exists! In fact, i send the message after that, and it gets right to the user!

I found this out with a user with the name "Plug&Pray" so I guess that & is spoiling out something... dunno if other chars are "critical" too.

Bira could you please look into it?

"Daro [PdD] & Andros" BUG! Recipient invalid!

I tested A LOT of users, and that bug happens only when the char "&" is present into the name... i can very easily replicate it :)

Well this hack still works at vb.org and they use 2.3.0, so it's safe to assume yes.
